We had a quick visit for Mattie to see his new school today. He saw his new classroom (what they do that is brilliant is for lessons that aren't done in a lab like food tech ,IT etc. the children stay in the classroom for Maths ,English etc and the teachers move around.what a wonderful way to cut out stress ) He was briefly introduced to his new classmates too. There are only 98 children in the whole school,in his year 9 class in september theer will only be 20 pupils,in his mainstream school theer were 8 streams of each year with 30 children in each class! It went very well he now knows what to expect in Sptember.

Anyway the Head said 'Mattie would you like to ask any questions?' and Mattie said 'Yes two please?' I knew he wanted to ask how many children there have Aspergers and he wanted to ask about PE which he hates.

Wait for it..........

'Do you dye your hair?' Oh my god does the embarrassment never end Mattie asked becuase the Heads sideburns were a bit gingery and his hair brown. He took it really well and laughed and said No he doen't dye his hair.

'Did you have the dimple in your chin put there by surgery?' Luckily he found this very funny too,I could have killed Mattie though!

The reason he asked this is Mattie's favourite film is Me,Myself and Irene with Jim Carey his fav. actor, don't know if you've seen it but Jim Carey's character has a cleft in his chin made with a surgical procedure.

What could we do but laugh

 :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Oh Karen that is funny - but, doesnt it make you feel good that Mattie felt comfortable to be able to ask questions?

I have a good feeling about this for you all Karen!

{{{Hugs}}} - what great news for you to start the holidays with :)

LOL :teeth: !!!!

Glad to read he was asking all the pertinent question :teeth: !!! ( I'll bet everyone else had been wondering about his hair ;) !!)

What did he say when you left? Was he excited to be going there? It all sounds really positive! He deserves a nice understanding good school where he can blossom, so much. ( And his Mum deserves some peace of mind :) )

That is wonderful and shows he wasn't intimidated by the new surroundings. That the head could laugh about it also shows what a good head he is - I'm sure Mattie will be fine in September, what a relief for you.

FANTASTIC:) , oh well the teachers do say they are equipped to deal with anything!.
Glad everything is going okay with you.

Weve had major problems this end with DS's school and he hasnt started yet LOL!!

Too funny! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

It all sounds really promising, Karen. As Shirley says, what did Mattie have to say about it?

Thanks eveyone:p The Head was very kind seeing us on the last day of term,we all know this day is bedlam at school;) But I thought it was so important as Mattie hadn't even visited the school becuase they don't let the child visit until they're offered a place!

Mattie loved the school and the people he met.He is really looking forward to starting even more so now he knows what to expect.

Roll on September:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Kaz, it shows how comfortable Mattie must've felt in that new environment.

Tell him I'm looking forward to hearing all about his adventures at his new school - and there WILL be adventures to tell.

So glad things are finally lookin up for me little mate (and you,of course :D )

Priceless! :teeth:

I'm so pleased Mattie felt comfortable enough to ask the really important questions ;), although I expect you'll feel honour-bound to volunteer for all the PTA jobs after that introduction to the Head!

I hope Mattie really enjoys his summer break now that he knows a bit more about the school (and the Head's hair!) before he starts next term.

Kazzie,
Glad to hear Mattie went to see his new shool, that would of done him a world of good. He now knows what to expect ! Am I right in saying that he has Aspergers syndrome?
my son has aspergers and it has been so stressful on all of us.
He is now 19 and goes to uni! AS aspergers wasn't well known even up to 4 years ago here, I have had a fight on my hands to convince the clinics etc that he isn't just extremely shy and quiet
And that he had AS.
Good luck Kaz
Jeanette xx

Thanks again:p

Jeanette,If Mattie was really shy and quiet my life would be easier;)

Glad top hear your DS is carrying on his education:smooth:

That is so funny.

Hope everything works out at the new school.

We have just got our DS age 7 in to a new school (he has autism) We are looking forward to hopefully an easier time when he is happy and settled at new school. DS only visited during the last week of term.

Hope Mattie likes his new school and that things get easier.
Helen
