The irony is that he was known mostly for playing romantic leading men and other serious roles until he was cast in "Airplane!". When asked later about being cast against type for that movie, he replied that it was his earlier roles that had cast him against type because he had always wanted to do comedy but nobody had ever cast him in one before then.

What made him so funny was playing it straight and dry too. And yeah his old roles were so different! He was in Fantastic Planet, and some old horror/sci-fi shows like Lights Out and Tales of Tomorrow. He's great in all those!

That's me a few nights ago. I had a new blazer and slacks that I hadn't seen recently. Turns out I left them in a hotel in Gainesville almost 3 MONTHS ago. Got them back this week...
