Too funny!

Oh come on Damo - you were having so much fun over at the Healthcare debate.......

I read the Maturnity thread because of this thread and despite my tag - I didn't have anything to say  ;)
I guess it's because I had two kids and got my max EI and didn't have a problem with it! I paid into it for many many years :teeth:

Susan--Ontario - I'm gonna flame you though - you got topped up..... I didn't......no fair ;)

My story, which would get flamed over there was that my companys head office was in L.A. When I announced I was expecting, I told them I would be taking 6 months off. The answer I got was no way, 6 weeks or 8 for a c-section. Then I smiled and said - too bad, it's the law here. Buh-bye!
I showed them when expecting the next - I had to take 8 weeks of pre-birth sick leave - with full pay by them (I had enough sick leave), then 7 more months!

Enjoy!

Someone hold me back. That thread is calling me, it's calling me. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

DDDDAAAAMMMMOOOOOO
Can you hear me??????
It's the Healthcare Thread.........
Come here........

Just repeat after me.............I don't want to give money to the government to take care of me. I will do it myself.
I won't pay for others.......bad government.

(Oh......that was terrible of me........I better watch out, they might kick me out of here........LOL!)

...well, I think its safe to say that Americans think they are overtaxed as it is.

They love their guns and hate their taxes. Maybe it can all be traced back to the American Revolution...you know, Boston Harbour, tea taxes, etc.

...but I gotta say, I was pretty surprised to see how violently opposed some Americans would be to paid extended mat leave...not just a "roll your eyes" kind of thing but, rather, an "over my dead body" sort of reaction. It was also hilarious to see many of them make concessions similar to: "I just want to make it clear that I am not opposed to unpaid maternity leave." Yeah, right, that's very big of you.

Hey, speaking of guns, maybe we can start up a thread over "there" tomorrow about gun control and their constitutional right to bear arms. I'd be interesting to see how heated that one would go (in light of the fact that this is a board about things Disney!). On second thought, I think I already know the answer.

You're bad!!!!:p

I may visit the thread but I'm not posting anymore. The two people (I haven't decided whether they are stay at home Mom's or actually men) keep repeating themselves. I wish other American's would give their opinion, but that thread is just too long for any sane:crazy: person to read.

Gotta run and get my work done that I should have done yesterday!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!:Pinkbounc :sunny: :bounce:

pssst........I am an American and I have to say I think what you have up there in Canada is an awesome thing! It is so very important to be home with your children at that young age! I was fortunate enough to be home with mine. Still am actually and my youngest is 12. I don't dare post that on that "other" thread because quite frankly I am afraid they will show up at my door with torches! LOL

My guess is there are probably a lot of us that agree with your program but no matter what points we may make in its favor we will get ripped apart.

Not all Americans disagree with your "socialist" country! ;)

LOL...That's funny.

...anybody know where you can get some similies of happy faces getting their head blown up with a shotgun?

Now that were into three days of this, I'm wondering if whats really keeping "them" going over there is not so much their opposition to such a program but, rather, seeing "us" get all worked up -- including the fact that we've keeping this thread going -- about defending our social programs.

Aren't you guys kind of suprised that, other than phorsenuf, none of them have posted on our parallel thread?

Probably don't even realize that there is a Canadian board.:snooty:

Well I had to keep it going and I even posted about a comment on how somone thought Europe would no longer exist so to speak if it wasn't for the US you know the old saying the few spoil it for the many. It is funny how so many of them can feel so strongly that they need less government and social programs and so many of them feel they could use them but will never get them becase the nay sayers always seem to scream louder and get what they want.

I think it actually might be "OVER" :cheer2: But of course I can't help but keep going back and checking

I need a new hobby ! Anyone know if there's a good refillable mug debate going on ? :teeth:

Yo! I know most Americans don't think we Texans are a part of America (at least the ones who don't like Bush) but we are. I posted earlier in the thread. I agree there are gret things about the Canadian sysytem. I lived there for over a year. I have to apoligize for the other posters because from an early age we are all taught the American way is the best way and the thought that any one else might do it better is something we can't stand. No doubt the origin of the ugly American. I think part of it to is jealousy. I can't think of any American mother that would not kill to be able to stay home with their newborns for a year. Our systems are different but thats okay because we as people are different and thats what makes the world such a great place.

Now about starting a gun debate over there, PLEASE NO! DON'T DO IT I BEG! It happened on the Debate board a couple of years ago and unfortunatley being a Texan I had to speak up and even though I'm not an NRA nut I do have opions and they got me in trouble. So like yall the moths drawn to the flame, I would burn up in the gun debate flame.

ok does " the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world" not have any effect on them? I paid into the UI system for a long time. by the time i became a mom my husband owned his own business so i did not collect uic. i was an unpaid employee. i would still like for people to have time with thier kids before going back to work. Children whose families put them first become parents who put their families first. that's what i want.
