I always see alot of threads about rude behavior or funny things your kids say. I tend to observe all kinds of funny/weird behavior when at Disney World. I was wondering if anyone else has any stories....

I'll start. **This may not translate well being written, but I'll give it a shot**

We were in Disney World this past December. It was actually the day that they were shooting the parade and castle shows at MK for television.

My husband and I were in the baby care center fixing a bottle. I was standing by the sink, first using the water cooler to fill the bottle then using the sink to warm the bottle. A man approached the CM working there to purchase some baby food. Now, it was completely obvious once he opened his mouth, that the man was not from the USA and did not speak English. He struggled to get the CM to understand what food he wanted and really only said "Apples."

While I was still warming the bottle, a rather loud woman came in and needed to use the sink (that I was using). I moved so she could use it since I would be awhile.... She decided to strike up a conversation with the man buying baby food. She started tellling him how excited she was to see Billy Ray Cyrus there that day. She asked him if he liked Billy Ray Cyrus. He mumbled in very broken, very accented English "I....don't......" She repeated, "Billy Ray Cyrus, you know the country singer..." and proceeded to tell him a couple of congs. He again (while looking confused) said "Billy? I.... don't.... know...." Very think accent, mind you. This time, she says "BILLYYYY..... RAAAAAY.... CYYYYRUSSSS" very loudly (almost a shout)!

When he didn't answer her -- she walked out of that part of the baby care center and started talking to someone else.

My husband and I just stood there giggling the entire time -- I am even laughing about it now! We couldn't wait to get back to the rest of the group to tell them about this! The rest of the trip we would periodically look at each other and say (rather loudly) "BILLY....RAY....CYRUS"

I always thought it was a funny "bit" on tv when a "dumb" american would simply speak more slowly and more loudly to try to communicate with someone who doesn't speak the language. Believe me, it is funnier in person!

Just makes you wanna shake your head...

Hello from North East, MD by the way. My in-laws live down in Bel Air.

I have always wondered why people raise their voices trying to get translation across in English.

I work in a hospital and we have a doctor who thinks she speaks spanish but in reality it is just loud English. It makes us laugh when she is trying to talk to a patient.

LOL, I also work in a hospital and one shift was trying to explain something to a patient's mother with my limited spanish and her limited English. An aide, whose first language is not Spanish or English proceeds to "help" me by "translating" Yup, she stood between us and repeated what I said, only louder and slower. So embarrassing! I found something better for her to do, quickly!

Really? Billy Ray Cyrus? Is that what we need to shout at people new to our country? I'm sure he thinks we're all batty, now!

Hey! So nice to see a "neighbor" here! I always see tons of antenna toppers wherever I go and I wonder if anyone else is on the disboards!

maybe someone should make a lime green mickey head to identify the dis-ers in the real world!

One time while my family and I were waiting for the Monorail at the Grand Floridian, I overheard someone ask a Cast Member is there where I can get on a Disney bus?

I over heard several retired couples several different times talking about how Fast Pass is supposed to be free but seeing ppl put a credit card in the machine for FP tickets. They did not understand that ppl was putting KTW in machine.

While it does seem silly, it's not entirely useless/pointless. The "loud" isn't necessary (not to mention how condescending it is), but slowing down and speaking very clearly may help someone who is not a native speaker understand you (or at least enough words to get the gist).

Not to say that this particular case is a great example of this principle.

BILLY RAY CYRUS

I love it when people just hand you one liners like that.

BTW ds (9) and I were in MK the very same day as you guys!!!

We met a family (earlier that week in MK) and they had no clue about fastpasses. POOR THINGS...THEY STILL DON'T.

DS and I picked up a fp @ Pooh and were given bonus fastpasses to Mickey's Phillarmagic! DS was so excited that we ran right over to Mickey's, Well Mickey's had a 10 minute wait and then he got even more excited. He started telling the lady walking in with us all about it. She was saying "What's a fastpass, how much does it cost?" I was so proud of ds explaining the fp system to her very, very clearly. "It's free. You just look for the fastpass machines next to some of the rides. You put your ticket in and a fastpass comes out." She just kept saying, "BUT how much does it cost?" He even showed her the thing!!! He started looking at me like "HELP!" I started helping....."It's free, you put your ticket in, a fastpass comes out. It's like a reservation.... so you don't have to wait in line as long. You don't have to stay at a Disney Resort Hotel......" The last thing she said to us...before we slipped away....was "That sounds neat, I wish I knew how to get one!!!!" :confused3 :faint:

The rest of the week, every time we got a fastpass, ds would yell out "It's FREE, lady!" :lmao:

DS with bonus fastpass :hyper:

We were talking to a family one night while we waited for Illuminations. It was the family's last night at Disney World before returning home. They had stayed at the Beach Club and had the dining plan. Their only problem? They were getting tired of the Beach Club food. They thought they could only eat at the Beach Club with the dining plan if they weren't in a park.

A couple of weeks ago I was getting in the line for Haunted Mansion and the two in front of me said to each other "Is this the one that goes up 13 stories?" To which the other responded, "No, that's at Universal."

In December (the day of the parade taping BTW - seems like a bunch of us were there then!) my friend & I were exiting DHS. There was a couple in front of us talking about the Osborne lights. The wife says "Just who is this Osborne family?" My friend & I looked at each other expecting the DH to say Ozzy & Sharon....better than that, he says "You know honey, Donny & Marie!" :rotfl2:

This past Saturday we ate at Sci-fi and the family of 4 sitting in front of us seemed to have no clue how to use their dining plan...the poor waiter was like "do you know how the system works?" and the lady was like "not really"...i wanted to pick up something and throw it at her the rest of the time we were eating because she spent all that money and had no idea how to make the most out of it.

My wife and I are very much the type that likes to get the absolute most out of our time and money...so we research everything and find the best way to use our resources. She probably thought the FP cost too lol

To date, this is the best I've heard!!!! :lmao: I will save this to read when I need a "pick me up" at work! :thumbsup2

A few years ago, we were taking the Lynx bus from I-Drive to WDW and this guy sits next to my DBIL. They got chatting and he said he was a CM. He asked DBIL if he liked cars and suggested that might like to try driving on the Indy track at the Mario Andretti Driving Experience! :rotfl2:

Last October we were waiting in line for IASW when dh poked me in the ribs and said, "look at the boat getting ready to leave."

Everyone was wearing ponchos...no one bothered to tell them it wasn't that kind of water ride. Everyone was full of smiles..I hope they weren't too disappointed. :rotfl:

Definitely "funny, clueless people"; I cracked up when I read that.

OMG, that's awful. I wonder how that happened, that should have been explained to them, right?:confused3
