Living in the UK the only time we have a chance to try funnel cake is at WDW as it is not available at home.
We have also been to NY, MA, RI, and CO but have never seen it for sale anywhere else, I know it is available, probably at fairs or some similar event but we have only seen it at WDW.
I love it but I know it must be fattening like doughnuts. Can experienced Funnel cake
gourmets tell me how WDW FC compares with the rest of the US

Funnel cake is pretty much funnel cake, IMO, and it is GOOD. In our grocery store you can get a "make it at home" kit- just add water to the bottle, shake it up, and then squeeze the batter into hot oil. SOO not a habit to get into!!!

Ohhhh funnnel cake, I haven't had it in so long. You can buy the stuff to make it in our grocery stores.

Here is a recipe posted on the Food Network by Alton Brown

1 cup water
3/4 stick butter (6 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup eggs, about 4 large eggs and 2 whites
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for topping

Boil water, butter, sugar, and salt together in a saucepan. Add flour and work it in until it is all incorporated and dough forms a ball. Transfer mixture to the bowl of a standing mixer and let cool for 3 to 4 minutes. With mixer lowest speed, add eggs, 1 at a time, making sure the first egg is completely incorporated before continuing. Once all eggs have been added and mixture is smooth, put dough in a piping bag fitted with a number 12 tip. Heat about 1 1/2 inches of oil in a heavy pan. Pipe dough into oil, making a free-form lattice pattern; cook until browned, flipping once. Remove cake from oil, drain on paper towels, and top with powdered sugar. Continue until all of the batter is used

I have given up funnel cakes the past few years, but I do thikn that WDW's and those anywhere else are about the same, at least from my experience. Just batter poured into hot oil for a bit, and then some topping if you want, 'fruit' or sugar.

You're right about where they sell them. Fairs, carnivals, theme parks, that sort of thing.

A funnel cake is a funnel cake is a funnel cake. Sometimes they get a little over-cooked, but that's about it. They're always yummy.
:)

not the ones at our local semi-pro baseball stadium. they make them up ahead of time and then flip them on a warm griddle. they are YUCK

I had an unfortunate experience on the Jersey shore regarding funnel cake almost 2 summers ago. I was so excited to get it, and eat it - it was all I had talked about for weeks. Well....went to bite into it, and either the oil was burnt or the cake was burnt (or both), but it was TERRIBLE!!!! THE NASTIEST funnel cake I had ever eaten. I refused to go back to the place I bought it from, but I do enjoy funnel cake now and again.

Other than that experience, they're pretty much the same wherever I get them - NY/NJ/WDW, all taste the same to me.

I had WDW funnel cake on Tuesday night while watching Spectro...maybe it's because it's WDW but it was THE best funnel cake I've ever had. :thumbsup2

Gotta love funnel cakes!!! I've noticed at Disney they put SOOOOO much powdered sugar on. At the fair and other places you have to beg for extra sugar. It was so funny, the last one we got was in Liberty Square just before going over the bridge to castle. We sat down at the tables by there and all the tables were full of power and there was power sugar all over the floor, everywhere.

This is was considered "clean" to me, look at their clothes and all, lol....

Sorry you must have been behind me. :rotfl: I had the powdered sugar in my hair too. In my defense it was pretty windy that day. WDW does put a little to much powdered sugar other wise it is as good as any that I've had at the county fair.
