Since money and gift cards are a big holiday gift item, I thought I would share what I am doing to make it fun for my three kids to receive them.

I bought a cheap pinata at Walmart and have filled it with $1 scratch tickets, $5 gift cards to their favorite fast food places....Dunkin Donuts, Subway, McD's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc along with rolled up singles.

I am hanging it in our basement and after gifts are opened will make them go downstairs and blindfold them to take a whack at it.

Thought this would mke it fun since this the first year my youngest no longer believes in Santa and the older two are teens.

When they break it, they will each get 10 scratch tickets, gift cards and $50 singles.

Thought I would share and see if anyone wanted to add their fun ideas.:goodvibes

That's cool. We are doing gift card trees. I got 2 foam Christmas trees, each has 20 limbs in it, and I am going to use glue dots to put the gift cards on the trees. My kids are 17 & 11 so they love gift cards and their lists were small this year. I was going to put them in some kind of box that I could wrap and they could open but I was scared the gift cards would fall off during the wrapping, so I am going to leave them out.

I have been picking up gift cards to places they love for a couple if months... Chick fil a, target, Starbucks, movies, iTunes, 5below,moes.

They are going to love their gift card trees!!!!

That's cute. I bought a plant for my sitter about 18 inches high. I am going to fold 4 twenty's into flowers and tape them each to a stick. This will be her "money" tree. :)

My mom is giving my DD $100 cash. I got her 100 singles out of the bank, taped them end to end, rolled them up tightly, and put them in a box. When she pulls the first one out, they will all unravel, one by one.

I got my DD a gift card to go ziplining. I bought a Barrel Full of Monkeys and strung them together. In between the string, I taped parts of a poem that describe what the adventure will be. I stuffed them all back into the barrel and when she pulls them out, it should (fingers crossed) come out in order and reveal what the gift is.

I also bought my DD a ticket to Universal Studios so she can see the Harry Potter part which is all she is interested in. I wrote that out on a scroll using the wording from the acceptance letter for Hogwarts. I reworded it so it fits the situation.

All of my son's presents are gifts that are wrapped up the normal way. That's okay though, he isn't into corny things and would just blow past it to get to the present anyway. :lmao:

I'm not overly creative, but DD is extremely creative and she always goes out of her way to make things more unique so I know she will appreciate my effort - no matter how corny it is!

Years ago, I had my sister's name in our gift exchange. She wanted clothes from a certain store. Now no way was I going to pick out clothes for my sister, when I can barely dress myself. So I got an idea.

I went to Goodwill - and bought the ugliest skirt and I could find and the ugliest top I could find and it helped that they clashed. I took them to the store and bought my sister a gift certificate and then enlisted the help of the staff. We took my Goodwill outfit and they dug up some price tags and other tags and we put them on the clothes. We got a gift box, put the gift cert in the bottom and then wrapped the present in their gift wrap. So it looked exactly like the outfit from hell came from the store.

On Christmas morning - my sister was excited - she knew the stores wrapping and ribbons. She opened to box, pushed back the tissue and her face just fell. She held up the outfit and tried to be pleasant. She said something about their style must have changed a bit. After a few minutes of torture, I told her to look further - and she spotted the gift card and we had a good laugh.

Three years later, she got her revenge. The whole family was going out to dinner at a resort for Christmas. My sister showed up wearing the outfit - with the tags still hanging off it :joker:

:rotfl2: :rotfl: Great story!

Great ideas! I have 3 older cousins that we buy for. I was going to roll up singles and put them in little clear gift bags. But now I'm thinking I might do something different and fun for each of them (they're siblings - youngest is 8, oldest 13).

I like the tape them all together idea (and I think I'll feed it into a little box so that it comes out a slot like tickets from an arcade game). I'm going to blow up small balloons for the youngest do he has to pop them all. I need 1 more idea...

Now this is a story that begs for pictures.

Last year I bought DD a cute wallet from one of her favorite shops, and filled it with gift cards, but this year I wanted to spread it out, for more gifts to open.

This is what I am doing: Have you seen that Coke commercial, where the boy grows up and keeps saying "and"...then he get a little extra, well we have commented on it and sometimes, my kids will say "and"...just being silly.

So, I am going to do different gifts that relate and put a cute envelope with the word "and" on it, and inside will be a gift card.

I did:

A GC to the movie theater and a tin of popcorn
A GC to The Cookie Co. and a dessert recipe book
A GC to her favorite store and a cute outfit
A GC to her favorite fast food place and put it in one of those cute plastic cups with the lid and straw
A GC to VS and some new undies
A GC to this awesome cupcake store and I put it in this cute pic holder, that has a cupcake on it.
A GC to Walmart for new makeup and put it in a new makeup bag

I think thats it LOL

Oh I was going to do a GC to a nail salon and put it with some new polish, but I bought her 2 tickets to a Cirque du Soleil show, so I am at my limit.
