We have a trip coming up. This is a first for my 13 yo daughter and the first for my husband and I since we were kids. Husband and daughter wanted magic bands.

What are all the fun things you can do in the parks with the magic bands - I have read there is something in Galaxy's Edge and they'll light up during shows and maybe be interactive with statues? I'd love to know in advance what fun they can get out of this since we have purchased now.

Thanks!

One of my favorite things to do is A Pirate's Adventure at Magic Kingdom. There is a small kiosk by Pirates of the Caribbean where they hand you one of several paper treasure maps. You follow the clues and use your Magic Band at the various points to activate effects. The kiosk is only open from 12-6p so make sure to stop in.

Note that you need a MagicBand+ to use all of the features (the one with lights). An older style one won't do these things.

In Galaxy's Edge you can play a Bounty Hunter game. Note that you do need a phone to do this and the Play Disney Parks app (download it ahead of time on WiFi - it's big!). The game will lead you around the area to find bounties that your band can track. Then you take a scan with your phone to "catch" the target I have never actually done it, so I am not sure on specifics.

Some rides have other interactivity too. You may feel your band buzz and light up with a certain patern. I won't spoil them all, but keep an eye out.

Fun! I'll let them be shocked when they feel it buzz on a ride! They will have Magic+. Does the Galaxy's Edge require both phone and band? Thanks!!

Yes, you must have a MagicBand+ and a phone to play the Bounty Hunters game (note that the Disney Parks Play app includes other games, many that don't need a band or anything - could be a good time waster in lines - you can play a trivia game in the queue for Soarin' for example). Anyway, you must also make sure that the band is linked to the phone via Bluetooth. That's something you don't have to do to just use it, but you can access some customizations if you do. The My Disney Experience app will walk you through it.

Fantastic information, thank you! I should have time to get my teen to clean off her phone so she has enough storage for a new app - haha!

Well, it's only 1 GB, but I was trying to get it in-park, and the guest wifi just wasn't having it. Definitely get it pre-loaded if you want to use it.

It buzzes when you enter the parks. It buzzes when you walk by one of the gold statues. The statues have signs saying to wave it in a circle and the statue will talk or play music; that has been hit or miss for me.
