Full Service Gas- do you tip?

I am not sure where you live, but where I live, from what I can see I bet they make peanuts.. If I can help them out and they have done a service for me, then I tip. My Mom was a waitress her whole life, she lived on her tips, maybe not quite the same, but in my mind, they are performing a service for me for which I am grateful, by putting the gas in my tank. I hate pumping my own, I do it when I have to, but when I do not have to, I tip those who do it for me..

Whatever you decide I guess.

I had a former student who decided to buy into a gas station instead of going to college--it was a family run business and he sort of "took it over". He bought out the remaining people.. and he makes a very good salary.. I think he said to someone "almost six figures".

Heck, that is even more than me. Most of the employees are family (brothers, cousins, etc.) so they are paid fairly. Of course they aren't make $20 an hour but its in the 8-10 range.

Yes, they are but tips are part of their pay so if you do an "as expected" job, you'll get a decent tip.

Why is it your problem that they are paid low? Tipping if for, at a minimum, good service. If the person pumping the gas gives you good service, why not tip?

I grew up in Oregon and still go there frequently. This is the first I've ever heard of tipping at a gas station. I had friends who pumped gas in high school. It was considered one of the better jobs for high school kids - it paid better. They occasionally got "keep the change" customers who didn't want to wait (or thought they were cute) but not really tips.
