We'll be staying at BCV in April with our 5 month old. I'm a first time mom and don't really know what we should be planning for. We're not planning to go to the parks so we'll just be farting around at the hotel, other hotels, and DTD. Is there anything fun to do with a little one this small? Can you push a stroller on the fantasia mini gold course? We're staying in a 2 bedroom villa with my parents in one room and DH, baby, and me in the other. Any advice will be helpful.

I can't think of anything specifically fun to do for a 5 month old. Don't know if you can take a stroller on the mini golf course, but you could carry the baby in a baby carrier. Keep in mind the golf courses are very sunny, even with sunblock I got burned at the Fantasia gardens course.

At DTD, there is a train/carousel. Not sure if you can take the baby on there or not. There are several cute photo opportunities - a bench outside of the pooh store, Lego store sculptures, toparies. Also, there's a water jet fountain, the baby would probably like putting their feet in the pop jets.

You can easily take a 5 month old into the parks. You would be surprised by the number of rides they can comfortably go on. And babies often enjoy the entertainment.

My son went on his first trip at 5 months old and we had a blast. We went to MK and Epcot, a couple of character meals, and hung out at the Kidani pool. He liked looking around and especially seemed to enjoy the parades and riding any boat. He loved the pool, I brought an inflatable baby float. Disney is very infant friendly and staying at the BC would make it very easy to walk to Epcot and hop on the monorail to the MK if you wanted. A few of the restaurants allowed my son to stay sleeping in his stroller and a couple had a bucket style high chair since he wasn't sitting up on his own yet.

Not sure if you are flying or driving, but I shipped a box of diapers, wipes, his pool float, an inflatable bathtub, etc., to the resort rather than pack it and bring it on the plane.

The picture in my signature with Pluto is from that trip.

I've been on these boards for a while, but please help me out.

FTM?

Dan

I have two suggestions, but they're more for you and memories to pass down to your child later than for "fun" for the baby now..

#1 - have a family photo shoot with a photographer down there. We used Randy Chapman for ours, and have done 2 shoots with him..one at Poly/GF, the other at the Boardwalk. The pictures are absolutely wonderful, and I love that we have such great pics - especially on her very first trip at 8 months old!

#2 - Have a silhouette made on Main Street. We did one of our entire family (DH, me, DD) - we intend to do this every time we return as a family, so the silhouettes over the years will show DD growing up. DH and I had one done of just the two of us before DD was born as well. They are wonderful souvenirs!

The mini golf courses are ADA accessible, so you should have no problem pushing a stroller through them. Like someone else said, it's really sunny on the courses though, so keep that in mind for the baby.

I agree with this. OP why aren't you going to the parks? You're in Disney World; live it up.

First thing - what do you do with your baby at home? Do those same things at Disney World. So, take a step back and relax.

You can take the stroller and push it around the Crescent Lake area and visit the Swan, the Dolphin, the Yacht Club, the Beach Club, and the Boardwalk. You can make a lunch reservation at any of those places or just grab a pizza at the Boardwalk and sit outside and put down a blanket for the baby to get out of the stroller.

You can also go over to the Transportation and Ticket Center or Magic Kingdom (not entering the park) and take a boat tour around those resorts or use the monorail as you wish. On that tour, you can see the Contemporary, the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian, and then boat over to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. At Fort Wilderness, you can use the stroller to tour around the area or, if more adventurous, rent a golf cart (a bit expensive) and drive around the entire campground.

You could also get to the resorts, like to Pop Century, using Disney transportation (you would have to go to a park first but don't have to enter the park). Once at Pop Century, have a walk around there and then cross the bridge and walk around Art of Animation. Or, go to Riverside and walk along the canal to French Quarter. Or, go to Saratoga Springs and see that and then walk to Downtown Disney. Or, go to All Star Sports and then walk all through there, down to All Star Music and then to All Star Movies.

I'd suggest a character meal. Baby's first time meeting the characters!!

There are several not in the parks.

Also, babies in general - the only constant with a baby is that everything changes. So go with the flow and have fun!!

Why aren't you going to the parks? You should be planning to do anything that you and your DH want to do. Baby can go on any ride that doesn't have a height restriction, and for those rides that do, use a baby swap.

We took our kids to WDW when they were 6 and 7 months old, and it was fun. They both loved IASW at that age.

I know that being a FTM is stressful and exhausting, but you can still have fun too!

I would also agree that - if you can - go into the parks! I'd recommend getting a baby carrier of some kind (ours is a Beco Gemini - very comfortable!), but there's no reason that you can't enjoy the parks with a 5 month old (unless it's purely your choice). I was exclusively pumping for DD when we took her at 8 months old, and I had to keep an eye on my fluid intake to make sure I didn't lose supply, but DD did very well and she loved it! One of my favorite pictures ever of her is her meeting Mickey for the first time, and her reaching out to grab his nose :) So cute! And baby swap is a wonderful thing for the rides you and your DH want to do that baby can't.

Although I'm sure there's more "go with the flow" involved, the parks are definitely a possibility with a five month old!

For proof, see TheMaxRebo's Trip Report on his family's visit with their one-month-old, as well as Dugette's Trip Report on her family's visit with their 14-month-old.

You certainly don't have to go to the parks, but don't write it off just because you have an infant. Also keep in mind there are baby centers available at each park if you need some "away" time with your baby at a crowded park.

Have a magical vacation, no matter your plans! :goodvibes

(Yikes, my links aren't working for the trip reports! I'll try to fix it later. ) :)

Have never visited WDW with a baby that young but have gone many times with a stroller. Many of the Disney transportation options like monorails and the boats will allow you to push a stroller right on board without having to remove the baby and fold up the stroller. If the monorail or boat is crowded, they may ask you to fold the stroller up to save space unless the baby is asleep. If your baby is good at stroller napping, you can plan to be out and about during naptimes as long as you have a comfy stroller with a good sunshade. The baby centers in each park will be a great place to take a rest and feed the baby.

I highly recommend leaving baby with the grandparents one night and making a reservation for you and your hubby at your top choice restaurant! I haven't played mini golf but I have done the major parks with a 4 month old. We also took the time to ride the monorail and visit the resorts on it. You could go tonAnimal Kingdom lodge to eat and enjoy the views of the savannah. Or shop at DTD. Ride the boat from wilderness lodge to contemporary. Boat from the boardwalk to DTD.

I second getting a good carrier and keep on moving. (Ergo is my choice) we started taking my ODS at 3 months and they are so easy at that age.
