We stayed at the cabins this January and absolutely loved them! We stayed 6 nights/7days with our 2 daughters, ages 6 & 10. It was so great to have the kitchen. We had towncar service from the airport that made a grocery stop, though now that we have seen the two stores at the campground we could have gotten everything there that we needed. I had plans of cooking several dinners, only did one but it was the best to have our breakfast there every morning. Some days we made a more substantial breakfast to last us farther into the day, some days we just grabbed whatever. But it was so nice not to have to "go out" for our breakfast and just eat while we got ready.
My DH really liked the fact that we had a living room space so when the kids went to bed earlier than us, he could still watch TV until late if he wanted too which he never is able to do in a regular hotel room.
We didn't use the pull out bed but I think it would accomodate your family nicely. It was so quiet there too, never heard anybody at night or early morning, it was wonderful.
We felt like we were so busy hitting the parks - this was our first ever trip to Disney - that we didn't have time to enjoy all of the things in the campground. There is definitely enough to fill a whole day just in the campground! We did rent two person motorboats one day and go around the lake which was a blast, though a little chilly when we got wet since it was Jan.!
We saw the MK fireworks from the beach one night which was so much fun for the kids. We thought the Trails End Restaurant was very good for the money, pretty basic food but we did breakfast there one day and dinner twice I think. All the CM's at the campground that we ran into were so nice and helpful.
One thing my DH says for going back is that he sees the wisdom of renting the golf cart. We both balked at doing it when planning because it adds up pretty fast if you want it for the week, but in retrospect we think it probably would have been worth it. It just saves from having to get on the campground buses every time you want to travel through the campground - which is all the time because you have to catch park buses at either end of the camp. We loved using the boat shuttle to MK too, but again its at the very top end of the campground so you have to bus to get up there unless you have a cart.
I got a great cabin rate of $149 per night by watching for discount codes on mousesavers.com so you might want to look for those. You'd pay that at a moderate resort and don't have the space or the kitchen for that! Hope you have a great trip!!
