Ft. Wilderness Cabins becoming DVC?

I have heard parts of Fort Wilderness are evacuated when bad storms are expected to hit. I understand for campers. Does anyone know if they have evacuated the cabins in the past?
Perhaps they have similar policies to PVB bungalows and CCR cabins?
Not only is FW in a flood zone, as above, it's in a heavily wooded area so falling trees are a hazard as well. It was closed completely for several weeks after one of the hurricanes in the last few years due to having to clear it. The PVB bungalows don't have the same issues, of course, and the CCR cabins are at lesser risk.

I never thought about a flood zone or the risk from trees falling.

Hate winters, but I guess living in a winter climate on a big hill has a few positives.

One time I camped at Fort Wilderness in a tent and an absolutely crazy thunderstorm rolled through. There was a stream under the tent. It was nuts.

...for the most part, this is what they look like now, before any renos:

We were in the TPs so much that trip we never lacked a nearby toilet. And our kids were young enough they only used the bathroom to wash if we forced them. :rotfl2:
....ummmm.......alrighty then...I'm thinking: too much information! :crazy2: [ :teeth: ]

@kimmar067 thanks for the photos. We stayed in the cabins for our first trip, 1994, and they changed them out a few years later. We appreciated the full kitchen, for sure, but my memories of the Murphy bed in the living room (instead of a sofa bed) then isn’t so fond! I’m looking forward to seeing the new ones.

Most would charge a pet fee per night - or a deposit to cover this.
We in previous years have stayed at the 2 specific dog loops in FW cabins. They do charge a flat fee per night for pets. I believe it is $50 per night. This is much better for some dogs to stay with the family rather than a kennel by themselves. It worked fabulously for us! The cast members loved seeing our dog played with them. Several stopped by to see him and brought treats. It is much less expensive than kenneling at the Disney kennel. I'm sure it once it converts to DVC they'll have the specific loops once again. No scratches, dogs on couches, dirt etc. Cabin was pristine when we arrived. We would never have known there was a dog previously in that cabin.

If they do this I wonder how it would have to work to be legal for time share law? Are they allowed to add a cleaning fee or would they have to build in point chart? If cleaning fee what percent do they keep for additional cleaning and what percent do they pay back to owners for additional wear and tear on room from pets?

So many other TS in Florida charge extra fees - including extra housekeeping fees if you stay fewer than 7 nights! - I can’t see any legal problem with DVC charging a pet fee. DVC could make those pet-friendly cabins cost extra points per night, but I really think they’re more likely to charge a fee that will go into the Housekeeping budget for the cabins, to offset the additional costs of cleaning and maintaining pet-friendly accommodations.

I don't think there will be any legal problems because we were charged $50 per night pet fee using dvc points in the past several years before the announcement of the cabin conversion.

I think the $50 pet fee per night probably goes to the Housekeeping department already. We got daily cleaning at the cabin but had to call housekeeping to set up a time to come in because of our dog. Even though we used dvc points for our visit they said because of the pet they require daily cleaning. Never had a problem arranging a time/appointment to come for the same day. They were very accommodating to whatever time was good for us.

Very excited to see where this goes, and what the points chart will be.
I’m interested as well but for me unless some major upgrades on the cabins and fort wilderness to make it more deluxe (which I don’t think will happen) I think the point charts would have to be somewhere around high studio/low 1BR to justify the cost (current cash price is lower then most dvc studios). That said I believe they will promote it as a copper creek cabin light and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is more points per night then most 1BR and some 2BRs. Only time will tell.

That would be a deal breaker for us. I think an OKW/AK/SSR 1 BR rate seems reasonable. In essence it currently is a 1 BR with an extra set of bunk beds if I recall correctly. It is not as nice as BR/CC. If they price it right, it will sell like hotcakes....

I could also see favorite week contracts being extremely popular with the cabins. And people buying multi-week contracts as well.

...well, for one thing, I hope they are more comfortable....

...I was thinking that a section of cabins would be dedicated to "pet-friendly"....
