a special trip out to Ft Wilderness...just to go to the buffet? Sounds like it's a bit of a 'jont' to get out there. Should I make special plans to go to this buffet, if we had no other plans out there? THANKS! :flower:

Good question. We both really enjoy the lunch at Trail's End. However, we stay at WL and usually walk or take the boat. Plus we are not huge 'park people', meaning that we look forward to an afternoon break to get away from them or if we are using park hoppers and not AP, we will visit Trail's End on a non-park day. So, after all those words, I would say 'no' it is not worth going to all that trouble to get there-unless you are looking for an adventure!

YMMV

I went there when I was staying at WL, but if I wasn't, I'm not sure I would make the trip out there just to eat. On a no-park down day, I might take my kids to the petting zoo, let them ride ponies and then go there for dinner. But would I leave MK and take a boat to Trails End just for dinner? Even thought it's really good, probably not.

We're one of those who don't stay at one park the whole time. We love eating at the resorts, and for us, we just get out of MK, head to Trail's End for lunch, then back to the hotel for rest and swim. Then we would head out to a different park in the evening.

It's a nice break from all the parks and the food is really good.

We too eat there a lot when we stay at the WL. It however is just a short, relaxing boat trip over from the MK. It's a nice break on a MK day.

We've eaten at Trail's End both when we had to drive to get there (staying @ Swan -- easier to drive than take transportation), and when we stayed at WL (and had an easy boat ride over). We've always felt it was worth the trip (it's not just the food, but the whole FW experience).

We love to eat there for breakfast & lunch. Staying at the VWL makes it a quick boat trip over. Would we drive there from another resort? Probably not but I wouldn't say never.

We always make a trip over to Ft. Wilderness for the buffet. Best deal at WDW, in my opinion. You can also take a walk through the stables and watch kiddos on pony rides or at the petting zoo. We usually find plenty to do there to add to our journey over. Oh, and if you go for dinner, you can also consider doing a carriage ride.

:moped: We read good reviews last spring about the buffet and decided to give it a try and it was wonderful! We went back in the Fall and had to go back. Good food, service and no long lines. We rode the boat from the MK and we've driven to WL and took the boat from there. A lot for the $.

We tried it this past Feb. and we were so disappointed in it. We had a CRT PS in the am and waited all day to eat with a PS for 7:30 because I heard this buffet was so great. It cost us for a family of 5 more than CRT and the food wasn't so hot. The ribs that I heard were so great weren't and the desserts weren't good either. We took the boat from MK and then the bus back to POR via DTD. We said no never again. I hope HDDR ribs aren't the same or that will be out too. Well at least there's entertainment there.

:scared:

We took the boat over there and walked back the day we spent at Magic Kingdom. It was good, but as I recall, we were disappointed that they didn't have any dessert. We went at lunch to save some money. We went at an off time of the day in January and it was deserted. We also walked through the petting zoo and over by the horses. It was a nice break from MK in the early afternoon. Debby

We were staying at FW and ate there. Very disappointed in the food. The dessert was a "skillet" apple cobbler thingie and it was dry and gummy. The food just wasn't very good.

Love the atmosphere there, though.

(Our family all really misses :sad2: River Country)

If you're looking for fine dining I would skip it. If you're looking for a good meal at a decent price in a great atmosphere (Ft. Wilderness) then do it.

It is a nice break from a day at MK. Just take the boat to FW and Trails End is ~200 yards straight up the walk way from the boat dock.
