Anyone else love these boots? 
My sister and I always wore them growing up. I remember them being fairly "expensive" even back then, but the quality was great, so it was a good value and we got many years use out of them. (We used to buy them in a small store that sold clogs and boots in Harvard Square if anyone else remembers it.)
So when I sensed that DD17 was moving away from Uggs and she asked for some classic leather boots for Christmas, naturally I thought of Frye. Needless to say, I was SHOCKED at how high the prices have gone, with some being in the $400-500 range! So I spent a few days searching around for a deal on some in a style she liked.
The best deal I found was at Zappos/6pm, where they had some on "clearance" that were discontinued styles and colors, etc. (Choices and sizes were limited, but I lucked out.) I did want to stick with Frye because I knew they would last a good long time if taken care of properly - but I wondered about others; I didn't want to spend that type of money and regret it if they fell apart, etc.
Anyway, I thought we could open up a discussion of women's boots, as, even though I'm all set right now, I was wondering if those who are more familiar with today's boot trends might share their knowledge with the rest of us.
Questions:
1) What brands of boots are known for quality and comfort?
2) Where do you like to buy them?
3) Where do you find discounts, if any are available?
4) Have you bought any boots that did NOT hold up well?

I will have to check out the boot socks and cuffs - I've never heard of them, but DD has and she said she'd like some. I am trying to figure out where my old Frye boots are. It's been so long since I wore them, they must be up in the attic somewhere. I bet they'll still be in good shape when I find them. I always oiled them and let them dry before I wore them and that went a long way to protecting them. 
(I ordered them early because I wanted there to be time to check for size and color, etc. and allow for return if necessary.) Happy with the purchase and got a great deal on them through 6pm.com, but did luck out as I got the last pair of boots in her size and color at just $179. The same exact boots are selling elsewhere for well over $300.
