It wouldn't really go "bad" in the freezer unless it was in there for a really long time. It would start to taste bad because of freezer burn way before that. As a very general rule, if it's not discolored or covered with ice crystals, it's probably fine.
If you plan to freeze meat when you come home from the grocery store, it's a good idea to wrap it in freezer wrap first. It protects it from freezer burn, and it prevents the chemicals in the plastic wrap from getting into your food.
