Frozen Ham - how long is it good?

Just remembered I had a ham still in my freezer from last may :scared1:

I had bought it for dinner one night, when 1/2 our family ended up not being there, and we weren't home the next couple days for leftovers, so I tossed it in the freezer (wrapped tightly of course)

As its thawing (in the fridge) it still looks and smells good, so do you think it's safe to eat? I will cut off the outer layers in case of freezer burn, ick,

But since this is the budget board, y'all know we don't like to waste anything :) but I don't want food-poisoning either! :scared1:

So should I try it? Toss it? WWYD?

It was frozen so I wouldn't guess it went bad in the sense of being unsafe to eat, most likely just some freezer burn. I would eat it in my house although I'd most likely crock pot it, I find that revives long forgotten frozen meats best!:lmao:

The crock pot! Good idea! What would you add to it?

Do you mean May that just passed or May 2008? :upsidedow

I'm doing the pantry challenge and have tons of ham in my freezer. (We don't eat a ham as a meal, so I just package it into small bags to use in quiche, soup, beans, etc.) I have some that's been in there for quite a while and it has been fine. I do have a large chest freezer, so the temperature and opening/closing a small fridge freezer might make things not last as long. Not sure where yours is stored.

My family would definately eat it;).

I'm a "lazy ham" person, I just throw it in the crockpot and top it with whatever "sweet" I have in the cupboard: pineapple, Mrs. Butterworth syrup, brown sugar, heck I've even used jelly! Always tastes good!

Yup I second the sweet, I actually like a can of pinnapple a handful of raisins, some ground nutmeg and cloves and a spoon full of brown sugar! You can thicken the juices at the end of cooking with some corn starch.

If you want to be simple a little fruit juice would work, apple, pinnaple or even orange...:thumbsup2

I like to put brown sugar, whole cloves and Coke/Pepsi in with my ham when I cook it in the crockpot.

Wow thanks everyone! I'm glad I didn't toss it!

Ok, but since it was already cooked through once, before freezing, how long should I leave it in the crock pot? Just to warm it through?

My mother's definition of eternity... 1 ham & 2 people.

I am sure it is fine if you crockpot it or bake it w/ augratin potatoes...YUM!
