Frozen Fireworks: Alaska on the Wonder July 2, 2012

Thanks for your message! My DD turns 16 in Sept. so perhaps they can meet on board. :chat: Will you be at the meet & greet on day 1? (I trust that we can join in for that even though I only found and joined this board with one week to go?!) :confused3

We're getting excited! :tigger:

I am hoping to make meet and greet. I am sure they can hook up in the teen area. My daughters name is Skylar.

Thanks for letting me know. My daughter's name is Lauren. Even knowing just one name/face would be great! I'm sort of a KathyJ, too -- my middle initial is J.

I just spoke with a friend of mine who just got off the Wonder on Monday. She said they had a fabulous time! Warmer than normal weather with only rain in one port, 77 degrees one day in AK but I can't remember which port.

She said they had rocky seas on the way from Seattle on the sea day. I've read that on other's trip reports as well.

Tracy Arm was an amazing day and she said the lunch buffet that day was her favorite meal on the ship.

We're getting very excited!

These are the movies on board this week:

Brave, Real Steel, Muppets, Avenger, Chimpanzee, The Help, People like Us (new Friday).

My daughter will be very happy about Brave.

See you next week!!!!

Steve

Thanks for posting this! I may actually see my first on-board movie... People Like Us looks good and the DD's want to see Brave.

I found this on another thread.....

Just off the June 18th cruise. Tuesday's day at sea was not fun for many people. It was a rough sea day and according to the crew it is normal. The weather though didn't last all day. I felt it first when we tried to have breakfast in the buffet and decided I could not eat. Both my daughter and I headed to our room and slept it off for about 5 hours. About 4 we woke up and felt much better and even ordered room service for lunch. The other sailing days were perfect! Weather even was perfect - if not to hot in port believe it or not!

Houstonians, are you flying out July 2? We are flying Delta out of IAH at 8am with a layover in Salt Lake City (reservations through Disney). Anyone on our flight?

Wareaglegirl - I think you can spread the love however you'd like. I'm just doing mine sooner since it would just make sense for what we're giving.

Who just got their FE? Did you buy it from gradysmom? If so, she was on vacation. -Waiting "patiently" for mine to arrive!

Welcome to all the newcomers. I had lived in Ocean Springs, MS for a short time, does that count??? :thumbsup2

Totally glad you said that. I didn't even consider that what we're giving would be nice to have early in the week. What would I do without you guys to keep me straight.

We got our FE yesterday. It came from stitches and bows. She said she is slammed with FE requests and is running about 6-8 weeks out.

We're leaving this Sat. on United-direct flight. Hoping to see some of Seattle before we leave on Tuesday.:woohoo:

:scared1:Monday!!! Good thing DH is in charge of getting us there! Major typo there...good thing we still have a couple of weeks to pack!! :rolleyes1

Whew.. a couple of weeks, left then I still have time. Who am I kidding. I need to pack!!!! I am getting distracted with Work.

Just a Note...

I read on one of the trip reports.. Make sure you purchase your on board items before we get to Victoria on Sunday. Once we dock in Victoria the Stores on board close and do not reopen for the rest of the cruise. I think Shutters (photos) is the only thing that might remain open, but not sure.

Got my FE today, it's so nice, lovin it!

Yes, had also read that the first sea days are rough and called "The Potato Patch" ohhhh if I didn't get so sea sick I'd get a chuckle out of that. I can't even go on the carousel anymore. We've got: ginger capsules, rx Zofran, adult Bonine, children's Bonine, children's Pepto, Tums, and for me "the patch". Hopefully one of those will do the trick and make the embarrassment worth it of going through security with all of that and then some!

This is always the case on cruises that go from Seattle, then up the west side of Vancouver Island. If you go to bed late, you'll start feeling it that first night. Best thing is to take your meds right before you go to bed. You'll be glad! I'm one of those people who never get motion sickness, but that first sea day gets me. Once I started taking the dramamine the night before, it wasn't a problem, just had to learn how to gain my sea-legs.

BIG BIG TIP

Formal night is the night of that first sea day. Don't even try to wear heels. Just don't.

I'm not going to be able to start until Sunday. We're in the theater all week (first tech rehearsal went great tonight!), and DH is in Vancouver on business, so nothing is getting done till then!

Yes, this is also the case on HAL cruises when they are coming back from Victoria. Their photos were still available. I'm not sure how much of that is the fact that the boat leaves from Victoria so late, and how much is how close Victoria is to US waters... if that second part matters at all.

I get sick on any motion rides or spinning rides or small boats. I seem to do okay on cruises, but I take Bonine or Dramamine the day I fly out and take a dosage each day. Never seem to have a problem on the ship. Just don't get me on a small boat lol.

Now I have been all over Tucson, looking for Children's Bonine and asked at Walgreens and Target Pharmacy and no one has it. Pharmacist told me to give her Benedryal it works the same. I have a few more places to try..

.

Good luck with the shows... I am so glad ours is done in early June and that is late for most dance schools in Tucson. It was a tiring week of Tech and Dress rehearsals and then 4 shows on the weekend.

I had also read the Potato Patch day was the 2nd sea day, I sure hope it isn't both. If it's the first, I sure just hope it doesn't ruin formal/princess night for us. We're already missing out on Pirate Night since rumor has it the party is at 9:45pm. Ugh, I'm feeling like Debbie Downer.

Well Bunless, my Nikes don't match so well with my cocktail dress, so I'll be the one walking like a giraffe in my heels. :rotfl2:

Lucky1 - Did you do the secret Kids Bonine wink to the pharmacist? I went to an out-of-the-way Target. I don't know that we'll get back that way in the next day or two, but if I do, I'll grab some for you.
We went on the then new Voyager of the Seas and even on that new ship, with the latest and greatest stabilizers, one night I had to go lie down. Even the swings at the park can be brutal.

For comparison purposes, is the first sea day on the Alaska cruise worst than the first sea on the Mexican Riviera?

Bunless- with you being a ballerina and an instructor, would you mind giving me a lesson on how to make a really good bun? DD is in gymnastics and I can never get her hair to stay "competition ready" and her coach lectures the girls about it all the time.

Is anyone else stressed out over the packing besides me??? We fly out Sat. morning and I'm finding it impossible to pack in anything but a large suitcase per person. The baggage fees aren't going to be pretty...
