I have done this with a can of that pecan/coconut frosting you use for German Chocolate cake..
I have also bought chocolate chip cookie dough with no intention of it ever seeing a cookie sheet, usually after reading one of these kinds of threads.
When I make homemade buttercream frosting, I make extra because I know half of it could disappear before it makes it to the cake.
Luckily I don't like the kind that comes in a can, so I am safe for now.
