Frontline for dogs question

I took my MIL's frontline after her dog passed... she was a german shephard and my dog is a coton (100lbs vs 10lbs!) and I just used a third of a vial...

He hasn't been treated for anything in more than a year though because I never rebought when we ran out... and *knock wood* we haven't had any fleas or ticks. However, he only goes outside to do his business 2x day, and he doesn't "hang out" there, he runs out and comes right back in, and we have no bugs in our yard LOL!

I have used advantage for my dogs and cats and buy the large size and divide it up.
You cannot use advantix on cats.
For the cats I purchase Advantage 100 for dogs over 55 lbs. You also need to purchase a 1ml or Icc syringe without needle to measure the dosage. The syringe costs around 40 cents and can be purchased at a farm supply store or your local pharmacy. My vet gave me some for free. For cats take a piece of tape and mark it off at the .8ml mark. I used a thin strip of black electricians tape. The reason to do this is the advantage erases the printing on the syringe.
Each tube contains 4ml. The cat dosage is .8ml.... so each 4ml tube is enough for 5 cats.
I have 2 cats so 4 tubes of the Advantage 100 (4ml) will be enough for 20 doses or 10 months for 2 cats.
I empty a tube into a small vial or bottle(like the small essential oils bottle)and fill my syringe (no needle) to the 8mll line and squirt it on my cats.

FOR Dogs. The dosage is different than cats.
You can buy Advantage or Advantix( see following post)

Dogs
I purchase the K9 Advantix 100 or if you have cats as well Advantage 100.
For dogs the Advantix and advantage is the same dosage.
DO NOT USE ADVANTIX ON CATS.
I empty the 4ml. tube into small bottle or vial as mentioned in my previous
post. You will need to purchase or get a 1ml or 1cc syringe from pharmacist or vet or farm supply store.
This is the dosage for dogs :
10lbs and under 0.4ml
20lbs and under 1.0 ml
21-55lbs 2.5 ml. ( I would give a 35 lb dog only 2ml (1ml. on neck & 1ml 2 tail end)

Mark your syringe accordingly with tape as the writing will disappear.
My vet and pharmacist showed me this over 13 years ago and I have never had a problem with fleas or overdosing.

BTW
We have had a terrible flea problem in Texas the last few years. I never noticed because I use Advantage/ Advantix year round.
Our vet no longer sells Frontline as he says the fleas around here have become immune to it and does not seem to control flea infestations.

We had a problem year before last. It seemed like nothing was working. We always spray our yard, but we had to bomb the house twice. We switched over to the spray on Frontline (at our vet's suggestion) and that seemed a little better.

Last summer, everything was fine as usual, and I used the regular vials of Frontline Plus. This year we seem to have an overabundance of ticks, but the Frontline eliminated the problem as soon as I applied it (I don't do it during the winter). Now, I just have to check my husband closely when he comes in from the yard or pastures. ;)

I have a puppy, well a 4 year old rescue that has flea allergies and Frontline was not working either. After watching him chew his back and tail bloody for a month I took him to the vet and they put him on Comfortis. They said he had a flea allergy and that even if a flea jumped on him only long enough to bite him it would send him into the chewing fits from the irritation.
Comfortis is a pill, so we can give him a bath within 2 hours of getting it and it is supposedly 99% effective after 4 hours. So around the 5th hour he gets a bath to knock off all the dead and or dying fleas. He no longer chews and has once again returned to being our handsome puppy man. From now on that is all I will use on any of my dogs and 6 months ago I was a skeptic.

LOL just something maybe you can look into.
