From YUMA AZ. TO ANAHEIM?????

We live in San Diego and often when we drive up to Dland we usually get off the 5 at Dana Point and take the 1/PCH. It does add some time (about 1 hour) to your drive but it is a WONDERFUL, mostly peaceful drive up the coast. The views along the PCH of the coast are truly spectacular and we often stop around Crystal Cove State Park just before you are getting into Newport Beach and eat outside at Rudy's Shake shack/Diner. They have fantastic burgers and shakes and their outdoor seating overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It is truly a million dollar view. Burgers fries and shakes for me and my wife run under 30 dollars. It is worth every penny.

My google-fu must be off tonight, can you provide more info on this diner? Sounds like a fun stop. We're driving to San Diego after Disney next week.

Well heading south down the PCH is the only way to get into the tight parking lot. Often times you'll see a line of cars waiting for one car to leave so one can get a spot. But the most I've ever waited was 10 minutes. And it was worth it. Here is the yelp review with hundreds of pics and reviews. The pineapple shake is the best!! Its a Ruby's Diner franchise but they have their own menu mostly and the food is much better than a regular Rubys. Plus its all out door seating on a cliff above the beach.

Has anyone travelled from San Diego to Newport Beach via the 5 and 1. Looks like I could drive right to Harbor BLVD. That looks like a lovely drive. Time is not an issue.

If time is not an issue, it is a great drive.

I've always wondered about taking that route thru Temecula instead of I-5. We will be traveling on a Sunday so there shouldn't be huge traffic problems but it seems these days that it doesn't matter when you drive, I-5 is always slow and go.

Yes. No PCH through Camp Pendleton. It ends in Oceanside. You have to get back on the 5 at Oceanside and then you can get off the 5 at Dana Point to get back on the PCH.

Thanks. I was wondering why Google maps was not letting me continue south. I can't wait to take this drive. I am from Nova Scotia and the ocean holds a special place in my heart....but I have never stepped into the Pacific Ocean.
