I am subscribing! You TR is great so far, I feel like I am there with you! We are still waiting on our dates and can't wait to go.

I will be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment!

Ug I'm already shedding tears:lovestruc lol I'm here and subbing too:) Great start to your tr. Glad they enjoyed the plane ride.I miss all of those little coin rides. Don't seem many of them around here anymore. Your family is beautiful!

Hey Kelly! You are back...and I'm so impressed with your TR start!!! I can't wait to hear more. We are going so soon, so it's great to have all of these TR to help us prepare!! Your pics of the village are fantastic.

Count me in, can't wait for an update.
Hope it is not too terrible.

Lara

Yeah! Another Trip Report to read! Great Start! I can't wait to hear more!

Lynn

Thank you!!!!!:goodvibes It's actually been fun writing out. Each night at the end of the day, Garth and I would sit on the patio with a drink and jot things down in our Passporter. I just didn't want to forget anything!

OMG...............you're back already!!!!!!

Your pictures are just wonderful!

And I see you were also in Melissa's very favorite section of the Village :lmao:

Templeton???? You are in the boonies!

And yes...............I do so agree (and I believe I've said it many times myself)..................it does 'change' you doesn't it? Hard to explain. But it does.

Looking forward to more.

Here's my hint. Just don't stop or you'll still be writing this in October:laughing:

Oh yes, we're pretty out there. I loved being where we were. It was on the outskirts so there was no traffic, but it was still really easy to get to everything. We walked everywhere! Thanks for the hint - I know that about myself, which is why I'm trying to chip away at it right from the start.:rotfl2:

Welcome home and great start to the TR!

Love all of the photos of the girls - especially those smiles! I am so glad you got to enjoy some of what GKTW has to offer on your first day despite the rain!

Disaster in the next installment? I don't like the sound of that!

Thanks! The disaster really wasn't that bad. It just was a really not good morning, though you can't tell it from the pictures. You'll see!

Subscribing...I'm more of a lurker usually...and I'm just getting to know you thru this report. Just done the first page, but the story and all of the smiles and positivity I'm reading is so inspirational. I'm looking forward to following you guys along...:goodvibes

We got to bed later than we had planned on Monday, but everyone was up early and ready to go Tuesday morning. The rain had stopped, the clouds had parted, and the sky was blue. It was promising to be a beautiful day. After everyone was dressed in their matching Mickey/Minnie reds courtesy of Wendy (BillWendy), we headed towards the Gingerbread House for breakfast.

Once again, we were overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone we met, from the landscapers and housekeeping staff, to the youngest volunteers, to the highest of paid employees (of which there are actually very few). We were a bit early for breakfast (it doesn’t open until 8:00), so the girls went for a spin on the carousel while we waited.

We got right in at 8:00 and found the breakfast to be very good.

The southwest scrambled eggs were particularly tasty! Ali was very out of sorts, probably from fatigue and the heat, and refused to eat or drink anything. This should have been our first sign that things were not going to work out as planned, but instead of reading her, we pushed through. After the rest of us ate breakfast, I went back to the villa to pack for a day at Magic Kingdom, while the rest of the crew explored the area around the Amberville Train Station.
232323232%7Ffp%3A84%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D336852%3A%3B%3C%3A338nu0mrj

Now for those of you who have never been to Disney before, please do not make the same mistake I did! When I packed for the day, I must have been thinking there wouldn’t be food, drink, or band-aids for miles and waaaaayyyy over-packed. I had Ali’s pump and a bottle of Pedialyte. I had juice boxes. I had bottles of water. I had snacks. I had sunscreen. Well, you get the picture. By the time the backpack was packed, it probably weighed in excess of 30 pounds. Add to that a camera bag and climbing heat and humidity, and you can probably guess where this day was going. I picked everyone up in front of the House of Hearts and off we went.

I didn’t realize just how big of a production it would be to get to Disney. The ride itself from GKTW was fairly short and simple. I would say that it was only about 12 miles away and maybe a 20 – 25 minute drive because of all the street lights – not bad at all.
232323232%7Ffp%3A7%3A%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E29%3B%3E245935%3B38%3C247ot1lsi

But the “ride” from the parking lot until you were actually inside the park? Oh my word! It seemed to take forever. We took the tram from the parking lot to the transportation center and then the ferry from there to Magic Kingdom.
232323232%7Ffp%3A92%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D3368529737338nu0mrj

We did introduce the girls to pin trading, which Maya seemed to enjoy more than Ali.

Then it was through security and down Main Street in order to reach the castle.

We were exhausted and overwhelmed before we even made it on our first ride.:rotfl2:

Hello there! Thanks so much! I'm glad you "outted" yourself.:goodvibes

I did try to soak in some of the “magic” while making our way through Main Street, but it wasn’t easy. After three straight days of rain and impending grad nights, I think everyone and his brother was at Magic Kingdom this morning. It was wall-to-wall people and for us New Englanders who had just left 48 degree cold, it seemed really hot and humid. We did manage to get the girls up to see Pinocchio, but it was kind of an awkward exchange. The CM wasn’t too interested in the GAC and to be honest, we were uncomfortable pushing the issue. After all, it was our very first experience with it. The line was long and there was little shade, but the girls really wanted to wait, so wait we did.
232323232%7Ffp%3A92%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D336852%3B233338nu0mrj

Garth finally approached the CM a second time and politely explained that we have a child with heat intolerance and that we were under the impression that this wouldn’t be a problem. Another short wait, and the girls were finally able to meet Pinocchio.
232323232%7Ffp%3A93%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E2%3A5%3E245935%3B396247ot1lsi

232323232%7Ffp9%3A%3B%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E2%3A7%3E245935%3B398247ot1lsi

And then we saw it: Cinderella's Castle. The girls were thrilled.
232323232%7Ffp995%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E2%3A9%3E245935%3B39%3A247ot1lsi

Now for all the time I spent planning, I really didn’t do a very good job of it. At least not for the short term. Once we made it up to the castle, we had to make a quick decision as to which way to go because we were getting swept up with the crowd. We decided on Tomorrowland and headed straight for Stitch figuring it was a good choice due to Ali’s affinity for the little alien. Bad, bad choice. The CM was very kind and got us right in. But, for a child with sensory issues, it just was not a good choice despite how much she loves Stitch. Not too long after we got in there, Ali was crying and begging to leave. Unfortunately this wasn’t an option. She did survive and we made our way over to the Speedway.

This was a bit of a better experience. Ali and I rode together in one car and Maya and Garth rode together in another. Ali seemed to like it well enough, and Maya seemed to really enjoy herself. I was feeling pretty hot and stressed at this point, and honestly, I don’t remember too much of it.

232323232%7Ffp%3A96%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D3368543855338nu0mrj

I do, however, remember Space Mountain. Maya insisted that she wanted to ride it with Garth. I insisted that this wasn’t a good idea, especially considering she has never even been on a roller coaster before. However, I lost and off they went. While they were gone, I was stuck waiting with a very hot, very unhappy Ali. I tried to find some shade, but there was little to be found. So we waited and sweated. They finally exited and Maya was white as a sheet. Needless to say, she did not enjoy it and was not interested on going on rides after that. But after a quick snack and some drinks, we convinced her to head over to Fantasyland to ride Dumbo.

Before we reached Dumbo, we first arrived at the tea cups and decided to give it a whirl.
232323232%7Ffp996%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D3368529738338nu0mrj

Ali LOVED it, as did Maya, so it was a nice break after our meh experiences with Stitch and Space Mountain. And right outside of the tea cups we saw Alice and the Queen of Hearts. Maya was eager to get their autographs, but Ali was not very happy and just wanted to get home. The CM was wonderful and took Alice aside to explain that Ali was feeling hesitant, so then Alice came over to us instead of having Ali walk to her. She got right down to Ali’s level, took her by the hand, and was able to elicit a few smiles.
232323232%7Ffp99%3B%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E2%3B5%3E245935%3B3%3A6247ot1lsi

It was really sweet. Ali was even willing to pose for a few pictures.
232323232%7Ffp996%3Enu%3D3368%3E35%3B%3E2%3B7%3E245935%3B3%3A8247ot1lsi

After that, we did make our way over to Dumbo, which the girls (and we) loved.
232323232%7Ffp%3A96%3Enu%3D3235%3E%3B%3B%3A%3E543%3EWSNRCG%3D33684%3B8%3B97338nu0mrj

232323232%7Ffp%3A8%3B%3Enu%3D3368%3E438%3E%3B%3C3%3E2459438%3C%3B4247ot1lsi

232323232%7Ffp998%3Enu%3D3368%3E438%3E%3B%3B%3B%3E2459438%3C%3A%3C247ot1lsi

At this point, it was awfully hot and everyone was tired. Ali kept crying that she wanted to go home, so we decided to call it a day. But, not before stopping to see Peter Pan and Wendy on our way out. They were both wonderful, and the girls enjoyed getting their autographs. They liked the girls' autograph books (made with the help of Donatalie's disigns:goodvibes), and spent some time looking through them.
232323232%7Ffp%3A95%3Enu%3D3368%3E438%3E%3B%3C7%3E2459438%3C%3B8247ot1lsi

We did get caught up in crowds as we tried to make our way out of the park. There was a parade going on, which made it very difficult to navigate our way towards the exit.
232323232%7Ffp%3A93%3Enu%3D3368%3E438%3E%3B%3C%3B%3E2459438%3C%3B%3C247ot1lsi

Random moment – I did run into a friend of mine from high school who I haven’t seen in years! It was pretty wild. We finally made it back to the monorail (I didn’t realize the ferry only runs in the morning and evening), and eventually to our car.

I really wish that Magic Kingdom would give wish families priority parking because even though we do not have a handicapped placard, those last twenty minutes were just a killer for Ali. She was a complete mess by the time we reached our car, and the rest of us were feeling defeated. At that moment, I didn’t care if we ever made it back. I was hating Disney and just miserable in general. It was all I could do to not cry myself. But, as the adage goes, there’s a silver lining to every cloud…

Oh Kelly I'm so sorry MK didn't go well for you all. Ty feels the same way as Ali does with the Stitch ride. Dh had to take him out of there and he says he is not going anywhere near it this time either. I hope the rest of the trip is better for you all!!

Kelly Welcome Home! GKTW sounds wonderful. So sorryu to hear your first foray into the parks diden't go as planned but hopefully things get better. I can't wait to hear more.

Oh, Kelly!

I'm so sorry that it started out so rough for all of you -- and at MK nonetheless! We had at least one "defeated" park experience as well. :sad1:

I'm looking forward to the "silver lining"! :thumbsup2

And despite how upset the girls might have been, they look just as cute as usual in the pics!!! :lovestruc

Oh Kelly, your trip is starting out just like ours did. Im so sorry. I hope it got better and you were able to just go with the flow. :goodvibes

Oh no!!!!

That stinks!

I am ready for this silver lining, too!

No offense to those who enjoy it, but it really wasn't that fun! It was really dark and loud, and low on the entertainment factor, at least I thought. The funny thing is for as much as she hated it, the rest of the week, she kept repeating, "Miss me, miss me, now you gotta kiss me!"

Thank you! I think I just had such high expectations and a very low sense of reality, if that makes sense.

I think we need to talk about these low points more! I know I went into the trip feeling like everything was going to be perfect and that we were going to be whisked along like royalty. When that wasn't the case, I couldn't help but feel bummed. But, after we regrouped and just let things happen, it got much better.:thumbsup2

It's hard not to be disappointed, no? I'm sorry that you had a similar experience. I feel terribly for alaskanabbot and their experience!

Oh no!!!!

That stinks!

I am ready for this silver lining, too!
It's all good - for real!

I'm so sad you had a hard start. But am also anxious for that silver lining.
I just had such high expectations. Once I readjusted, everything was great. I was reading your TR, and I admit I literally shed tears over the dessert pics. What a wonderful thing for them to do!:lovestruc

If there is any advice to be had, it’s to “listen” to your child(ren) and do what’s best instead of what you feel you should do. I felt like we should have stayed at MK to use the passes to the most, but the best decision we could have made was to go back to GKTW. As soon as we passed through the gates, we felt like, “Ahhhh…our happy place!” We got back to the villa around 2pm and everyone was in a pretty foul mood. We decided that we would change into suits right away and then bring lunch from Katie’s Kitchen to the pool.
SurfShack.jpg

The pool area is fantastic to the point that words and pictures cannot do it justice. There is music playing, and kids splashing and laughing. Everyone is friendly and smiling. It was so different from what we had experienced at Disney that if at that moment the family had decided to spend the rest of the week at GKTW and not hit another park, I would have been thrilled. A word of advice - when you make your obligatory Wal-Mart stop, pick up a couple of floaties for $2.00 a piece. After the norovirus outbreak, they got rid of all floaties so there is nothing there for the kids to use, and believe me when I tell you that the swim rings were a huge hit. We spent half our time tracking them down from the other kids!

Lunch at Katie’s Kitchen was always great – try the chicken salad – though it will probably be a long time before I eat Boston Market again. One of the highlights of the trip was another family that we “met.” I put “met” in quotations because we never exchanged names, but we talked on multiple occasions and would exchange pleasantries whenever we passed. Ali was thrilled because the little boy had a g-tube too, and the two of them would sit in the shallow part of the pool and compare anatomy. It was just wonderful to watch. Instead of Ali wanting to hide it, the tube all of a sudden was something very normal. I wish I had gotten a picture of the two of them in the midst of looking at their buttons.
AliBall.jpg

We had so much fun splashing in the pool that we almost blew off our ADRs at 1900 Park Fare. We were just so content being in the pool that it was hard to fathom dragging ourselves back towards Disney. But, I’m so glad that we did, as this was our first big “magical moment” of the trip. Our reservation was for 6:55 and we just barely made it. We were seated right away, and they even arranged for us to have a table where Ali could stay in her stroller if she wanted to. The pictures are a bit deceiving, as Ali’s mobility is quite impaired due to fatigue issues, and by the end of the day, she can have even have difficulty sitting up, so this was good for her.

Food is served buffet style here and was just so-so. The kids didn’t eat too much (honestly, I can’t even remember what they had), and the adult buffet was so chaotic that I just grabbed what was easy, which happened to be chicken marsala. It was okay – very salty. Lady Tremaine was making the rounds first, and stayed very true to character though you can see her cracking a bit of a smile.
AliLadyTremaine.jpg

LadyTremaineGirls.jpg

Drizella was next, and she was absolutely hysterical. She spent quite a bit of time with the girls, and toned it down a bit when she realized that Ali was having a difficult time. We really appreciated that, and she even got her to smile!
AliDrizella.jpg

DrizellaGirls2.jpg

By the time Cinderella and Prince Charming made their grand entrance, the girls were getting the hang of character autographs and were eager for both of them to get to our table. Both were very sweet with the girls, and Maya was just in awe. It was so fun to watch.

After the girls got their autographs, we were getting ready to leave as Ali was pretty off and we wanted to get her home to bed. She didn’t eat any dinner (or lunch), and stupidly, I didn’t bring any formula for her. One of the CMs came up to us and asked if we could hold on for a few minutes because they were about to do a special wish ceremony for everyone celebrating a special occasion. So, we stood by the door ready to bolt as soon as it was over. Again, she came up to us and asked us to wait. Right behind her, we saw Cinderella and Prince Charming walking towards us. I turned to her and asked, “Am I going to cry?” She laughed and said, “Probably.” Cinderella took Ali by the hand and Prince Charming took Maya by the hand and led them to the dance floor for the first dance. The girls were in heaven.

I love this picture because you can see one of the CMs trying to keep the other kids off the dance floor.

After the dance, we thanked the CM profusely and again got ready to leave. She said, “You’re not done yet. Follow me.” She led us out into the courtyard across the way where the girls got some private time with Cinderella and Prince Charming.

After what had been a very bah day at MK, it was amazing to watch the girls come to life as they interacted with Cinderella and Prince Charming. I just couldn’t believe it. My faith in the whole “process” had been restored and I had learned a lesson: if you don’t go looking for magic and have a little faith, magic will certainly find you. And this knowledge carried us through the rest of the week.

I think it was close to 9pm before we finally left for home. The girls fell right asleep, and Garth and I continued our nightly ritual of drinks on the patio. Another suggestion - bring bug spray/wipes or buy one of those little off cintronella lantern things. We decided that we would take the next day to regroup and then try the parks again on Thursday. We had originally considered going to Epcot and DHS that day, but after our abbreviated experience in MK, we decided to do AK in case we never made it back to the parks since that was actually Ali’s wish (to see the “real tree”). We fell into bed around 10:30pm more at peace than we would have imagined possible just twelve hours prior.

Next up…Where is everyone?!

I have lurked off and on for years and usually don’t post: however, I had to tell you I was moved to happy tears at the wonderful experience your family enjoyed with Cinderella and Prince Charming. Your daughters are GORGEOUS!! I was so relieved to hear the trip was improving and I know you are imparting valuable advice to just experience the magic when it comes. Thank you for sharing with all of us!

That was a super change in your day from the day to night! It is SOOO cool that the girls got to dance with Cinderella AND Prince Charming. How many girls can say that?!? Not many! :goodvibes I am very glad it got better! And that is some very true advice- don't go looking for the magic, let it find you! You can't find it on your own because then it's not magic. Magic just happens and only if you believe!! (yes- I am a cornball.... I can admit it!:lmao:)

Hi Kelly!

I'm so glad I got to meet you at GKTW (after noticing Ali and Maya's cute Big Give dresses)! And glad one of us has the motivation to do a trip report....

Ironically, we had a similar experience with our MAW greeter at the airport too. There were greeters there for two other families, but none for Elke. I walked up to one of the others and asked what they thought we should do. He called the office, and someone came down to meet us several minutes later (in the meantime Jake went down to baggage claim to get our bags). Apparently they had our arrival down erroneously later than it was scheduled for. Perhaps that was a common error that week?

We also then arrived at Avis to find that they had no car for us.... That was lovely. But our MAW greeter spoke with them and they miraculously came up with one.

I wish Elke has been in the pool with Ali and that little boy that day. It would have been good for her to see other children with g-tube buttons. But she's so young that it doesn't affect her all that much (I think!).

As I mentioned at GKTW, we too found the MK to be more exhausting than the other parks. But we mostly focused on Fantasyland with Elke (did Winnie the Pooh MANY MANY times, and also the carousel). She also loved the jungle cruise, and exploring Minnie's house in Toon Town. But I had read about the Stitch ride and decided that she would be terrifed (hey, she was scared in Peter Pan...).

We also had a similarly magical experience at 1900 Park Fare, where we also went for dinner. It was at the end of a long day (the day we left GKTW and switched to the Poly), and Elke was really not doing well. When a CM approached us and said that we should meet Cinderella and Prince Charming in the garden before we left for some private time, I was actually hesitant. But it worked out well, and Elke warmed up to them away from the chaotic environment inside.

Glad to see Ali and Maya had some quality time with the characters. Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip!

Oh I'm so glad your day got better. How wonderful that the girls got all that special time with Cinderella and Prince Charming. I can relate a bit to what your saying about expectations. We weren't on a wish trip but we had really built this trip up in our minds. I think I had imagined us being perfectly happy every moment without regard to our actual situation as if real life and the affects of my husbands disability or my sons Autism woulden't exist simply because we were at Disney. I was let down quickley and our first day was rather stressful but once I relaxed and realized that it diden't have to be perfect to be special we had alot of great moments. I totally agree with your comment about just letting the majic happen. I can't wait to read more about your trip.

I just had such high expectations. Once I readjusted, everything was great. I was reading your TR, and I admit I literally shed tears over the dessert pics. What a wonderful thing for them to do!:lovestruc

That chef was amazing with Megan's dessert. It still gets me a bit teary eyed too and it has been months. I have the picture with Megan and her tower as my iPhone wallpaper because I love it so much.

I posted my reply above before I read your latest update. That is so awesome! Now I am teary. I'm so glad your day ended wonderfully!
