Jen, I struggled with my weight for years, because I was always hungry. Then, I got diagnosed with diabetes. Testing my blood for what made my sugar spike told me what I needed to know - dropped all sweet baked goods, white bread, white rice, white potatos, regular pasta, cereal including oatmeal - and seriously portion controlled what was left. Upped the time in the gym. The pounds started to slide off, slowly, very slowly. Sugar has been normal since May and I may someday achieve 'undiagnosed'. But the best part is - no more being ravenously hungry! It was the carbs making me crave more of them. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but it has certainly been working for me.

A woman at work, size 2, topped our bargains. She went in some upscale store in New Orleans, where she was from and bought 4 on final clearance for under $20 total. I bowed to her, lol.

You'll look GREAT in your 40's dress, Jen. That was such a glamorous era.

Shushh, that's a LOT! But' it is round trip, right? Will you fly west?

Happy day, all!

Linda, you're up early!

$20!!! :worship:

I can relate somewhat to the diabetes. We have a strong family history of diabetes and I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. That was a wake-up call. Although we already had a relatively healthy diet, it was really hard adjusting my carbohydrate load for each meal. Portion control was also a struggle. Because I was "monitored", I couldn't cheat!!! It soon became habit. And the weight after bub was born just dropped off. Hopefully, this means that the whole family will benefit as well from a better diet.

As for flights, yes thankfully the price is for return ticket. And yes we are flying west.

I was reading through and there needs to be a Star Trek movie night somewhere on this cruise. There may be agreement on "First Contact."

I have an even better thrift store story. I was shopping for a ski suit and thought that would be the cheapest place. Grabbed 3 off the rack to try on. On the last one my foot was getting poked by something as I tried to put it through the bottom of the leg (there was elastic around the bottoms) I just thought there was a pin or something in there. So, I shook out the leg and out popped a very dead, and very flat, but good sized rat. It was it's claws that were poking my foot. Not wanting to make a scene, but hyperventalating as I put my own pants back on. I said to my hubby very quietly there's a dead rat in the dressing room. We went to tell the cashier and again I was trying to be quiet as not to make a scene, but she wouldnt believe me. So finally the person behind me in line heard me and went for a look and of course she started screaming. We left in a rush. My hubby couldnt believe how calm and controlled I was, when I practically ripped my blouse off in public when a bug fell in. I'm not sure how I stayed so composed either, but this is a true story, cross my heart and hope to die.
I think iwould have lost it, I can do anything, but rats, no way, we had them at the horses, lots of them, ewww, we had to poison them to get rid of them, they were everywhere dead, I know it is horrible to kill them but we were being over run by them, now when we get them at work, I only touch them when I really have to, I cant stand it when you pick them up and their tail goes around your wrist for support, enough of the rat talk, But I am impressed you didnt scream.
:lmao: That's hysterical!

:scared1: HOLY CR*P! I will DEFINiTLY SHAKE THE CLOTHES from now on! And congrats Tami, on the weight loss. I'm only a couple pounds ahead of you - down 42? last time I weighed. And I'd be Thrilled if I could double it - but - well, already pretty happy :yay:

Lynne that is definitely a fabulous dress!

now, I have a screamer story - only I didn't, either. Last year, right after we retired, we went on a 6 week trip. Down the east coast of the United States, right on the coast, outer banks, etc, to Vero beach, back to WDW and then out to the panhandle and up on the backside of the Smokies. We'd been on the road about 5 weeks and paused to catch our breath in a cabin on a ridge in the mountains.

This cabin was all rustic wood, but it had a tiny ground floor bedroom, right off the kitchen and next to the bathroom. Being an unfamiliar place, we left the bathroom kight on at night so we could find our way without turning on the light. Well the second night, I go in and sit down and there . . . about 6 inches in front of my bare foot, was this big BLACK SHRIMP with legs.

Now, i'm not particularly bright in the middle of the night, but even I KNOW shrimp don't have legs like THAT. So i'm sitting there, bare A$$, Bare foot and there's this THING on the floor. hmm. SCORPION! OH CR*P. WHAT am I going to do????

So, I finish my business, flip the edge of the bathmat over it to protect my foot (and hold it still) while I stomp on it. Then, I flushed it and went out and turned every light in the place on to find my way back to bed - and we NEVER got up in the dark again as long as we stayed there!
Now you see, I know it would probably kill me, but its all in the head and the rat thing bothers me more.Lucky you were on the loo!,lol
I'm impressed (and jealous) of the weight loss on this board. Kudos to ya'll. I'm having a really hard time with my weight. I run out of time in the day to do everything. School, work and Jack suck up every available moment. The semester ends in 5 weeks and I have to get on some sort of system I can carry on with during the school semesters. I really want to be down 50 pounds by the cruise.

Ever cruise I manage to find a great dress on clearence somewhere for dirt cheap. Last cruise was the black dress I'm wearing on the PC website. It's a Calvin Klein designer dress. It was somewhere between 400-500 bucks. I got it for $80. It was "last season" but it's timeless, very 40's glam. I'll probably start scouring the shops this time next year for clothes, I find that early in the Christmas shopping season has a lot of great deals.:thumbsup2
I work out a lot, but really I was huge, I take my hat off to folks with kids, I dont know how you get a minute to do anything!
Thank you all for the amusing stories...:lmao:

It is lifting me up somewhat as we've just booked our rather expensive flights to Barcelona for the med cruise. For the flight that works for us, it is around US$1800 per adult! Hmmm, multiply that by 2, add another 3 at 75%...:scared1:

I love getting gowns at bargain prices as well. The selection here isn't as good as overseas so I try to buy in Asia/overseas when I can. Jen, your dress for $80 is a steal! You look gorgeous in the photo!

I know, thats why I really wanted to sail from barcelona, only 1 major flight to pay for.

OK< but can we have a Capt Archer night;)

Jeff is diabetic so I can relate Linda. He's lost weight and is doing pretty well. Unfortunately he has a very stubborn case of diabetes...
Weight Watchers works for me when I can plan out meals, watch what I eat and get a decent amount of sleep. None of which occurs during the semester.
As a nurse I know what I have to do I just don't have the will power to do it.
I'm suppose to do the WDW 1/2 Marathon in 2 months. I haven't even begun to train. I'm screwed......

At nearly 20 stone, I am surprised I never got diabetes.
You could still train to walk/run it in 8 weeks. You can walk in a reasonable speed, I got my dads garmin and walked at 4.3mph when I was not running.
Thats what I done for the lochness marathon a few weeks ago as I did not do the training cause of injury.

It does seem to be the movie with the greatest consensus.

As for weight I also have about 20 pounds I want to lose and have been saving my disney rewards points. I only have about $500 but I am excited about it. I can only dream of having 3000. How did you do it?

Hello everyone and greetings from WDW! Carol, pahrumpgirl and I are here with our DHs for another week before heading to St Thomas for a week. From now on, please PM all info to Jeff tigfanjeff for our cruise web site. Thanks!

I charge EVERYTHING, even if it's $2. My hubby gets so embarassed charging such a small amount, but knows I will kill him if he doesnt. We pay the bill off everymonth. Since I've been saving since Day 1, they added up. They didnt use to expire so I was able to keep them for so long (they expire end of 2010). I got lucky, I booked a 5 day double dip that didnt work out "spent" (paid for double dip) that I could transfer them to 2011. Yipee for me. I have another 500 plus my daughters 700, but still owe about 2000 for this cruise.

As for the diabetics, I'm not diabetic but the low carb thing is how I have been losing my weight. It was really hard at first. I LOVE milk, but found a real milk not soy or some funky thing for only 3 carbs for 8 oz glass, also I'm a baker, so giving up the sweets was not easy. I've been experimenting with splenda (I made sugarfree snickerdoodles and won 1st place at our podunk county fair) and almond flour. It's almost worth it to just give up the sweets cause the replacements cant come close. I plan to indulge in a few of the Wonder's treats tho. I've been hearing alot about the chocolate cake at Palo.

Does anyone think that getting reservations for Palo dinner/brunch will be an issue w/a 15 day cruise? I'm not even a CC member so last on the totem pole to make ressies.

I really dont think so, and if you dont get booked,EVERYBODY on our last cruise got what they wanted on the ship.
I booked brunch then decided not to do it and one of my cruise buddies went instead, so I think a lot of folks just book what they can then decide later?

Do you both have a separate Disney CC or do you have 1 account with multiple cards? I apologize if this seems like prying. It is not my intent. My DH and I have been trying to decide which path to take - 2 accounts or 1 account with 2 cards. Right now, I pay for all major items and general household with my Disney CC and he has his own non-Disney CC for other things.

I am a CC member and am STILL concerned about this. I just do not seem to be lucky when it comes to internet working or quick draw on the phone numbers.

That's the bottom line - there has to be that genetic component. Being overweight doesn't make one diabetic but it can sure bring it out if you have that gene.

If I ate the "ada diabetic diet" I would still have high sugar. Never thought I had any will power either. it wasn't me - it was the carbs. Boy, a half marathon with no training. That is gutsy, crazy or both! I will be out there cheering for you! The little old lady on the ecv! Or, you can find me at the "T" tent, afterwards.

At nearly 20 stone, I am surprised I never got diabetes.

Must not have the gene, Lynne. Lucky girl :)

I can't wait to get back to the gym. But I know I don't have the strength for it right now. Just hope I don't lose all the progress i've made over the last year.

We should have a Palo seat filler list. :lmao: Give someone on the list a call when family memebers bail on you at the last minute.

Actually on my Panama cruise I was on stand by for Palo Tea. DIS friends had two different reservations for tables for six and as they were gathering at the check in area PJ (bless his heart) overheard them checking to see if everyone was there and if they needed to call me as a seat filler. He said "call her anyway...we'll make room!"

That was nice. Did you enjoy tea? I was disapointed.

We had tea on the Panama Canal cruise and just loved it - really a highlight, but this last cruise in September we were both very disappointed so probably won't bother again. I was quite sad.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I too am on WW.. I just started 3 weeks ago..so far I have lost just over 4 pounds...I am hoping to reach my goal by the time we cruise :) I have a lot to lose but am motivated!

My DH is diabetic but luckily he had been able to control it with diet.

Does anyone know when we are to vote on the logo? I am looking forward to putting one in my signature

I leave on Thursday for a 4 night cruise to Baja Mexico..it is also a murder mystery cruise which we love. Trying to get everything packed today if possible since this week is crazy!

Have a great day!

We charge everything over $25. but we spend the rewards every trip. This year we charged a new patio door among other things, so I'm happy to have 500$

I'd love to have your sugar free snickerdoodles recipe! But, I agree with you about the replacements not coming close. My girlfriend made muffins with flax meal. They only had 2 carbs, but the texture was quite dreadful. Most things, at a restaurant, I can eat 3 bites or 5 bites, if I low carb the rest of the meal.

We have one account, 2 cards. Probably dangerous in case one of us tips up our toes unexpectedly, but everything we have is joint except our 401k's. We started out that way 40 years ago and just never changed. Young women probably do differently, but at this point in our lives it would be more hassle than it would be worth.

We too went in September. The company was great. The food? I'd rather have brunch. But there again - watching carbs? Not such a good place to eat, Not surprised YOU didn't like it, nor Lynne either - where y'all come from they have REAL teas!!! Yum. Scones with cream AND jam.

Have fun in Mexico!

Heck, that's not prying! We have a joint account, with all points going to one account. I pay utilities, down payments on cars, just made hubby use it for $3 at Michael's. He took out cash and I gave him "the look". lol

I am a CC member and am STILL concerned about this. I just do not seem to be lucky when it comes to internet working or quick draw on the phone numbers.

I was very lucky booking this trip. I got up at 5am AZ time and by 5:10 ressie was made. Feeling very lucky. But I will be on computer at 9pm our time to make Palo ressies. I'm very anal. Since we spent so much on the 5th wheel, this will be my only Disney cruise and I want to do it all!

3/4 cup butter flavor crisco, 3/4 cup real butter, 1 cup splenda granulated, 3/4 cup splend brown sugar, 3 eggs, 4 cups flour, 1 T cream of tartar, 1 1/2 t. baking soda, 1/4 t. salt. Cream butter, crisco and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat until mixed. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Mix until blended. Roll dough into 2" balls. Roll balls in a mixture of splenda (you can also use Nature's Sweet sugar substitute) and cinnamon. Chill balls until firm. Then freeze. When ready to bake, bake at 350 for 15 (give or take a minute) minutes. Cookies will look not quite done in middle, but will continue to cook on cookie sheet as they cool.

Now, it's important to use both butter and crisco as it makes the cookies stay together more instead of flattening out like a pancake. It's also important to use a mixture of white and brown sugars because this makes them a chewy, not crispy cookie. You freeze the dough because that also makes them stay more in form and not like a pancake. These taste pretty good. I didnt use almond flour though. I also made my choc. chip cookies with splenda and the family likes them better than with real sugars! Enjoy. Remember to take them out when they dont look quite done. People have a tendency to overbake them.

I would not even worry about getting a brunch or a tea reservation. With all the sea days it should not even be a problem. The only probelm I can think of is the fact the Wonders staff is just not used to the brunch and tea because I think they only do it once a week. I did both last week and they were amazing. The chicken parmagin at lunch, I would kill for. Well I have to hike of to Le Celier for dinner then off to the studio for extra magic hours. Yes Tower of Terror at night. Now only if it would thunderstorm, then it would be perfect.
