From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 5

Just heard that the east coast (at least mid east, maryland, virginia, and pennsylvania) may get between 2 and 20 inches f snow saturday into sunday!! help!!!:eek::eek:

Aw, shucks, your praise for the nametags makes me smile:) My original plan long long ago was to get a group together to "gift" lanyards and nametags to the group----we helped finance this for the 1st 5 night cruise back in 2008---but you all seemed to think that the Disney-provided lanyards were good-enough. Sigh. That is when I offered to make the nametags---yes, they are free---my little "gift" to the group:) And now we have special lanyards that we purchased individually so I am very happy!

I want to say "Thank You" to Linda for posting the picture for me! I told my husband that we would get more names if we did that! I can print them up until Sunday January 2nd.

The new names we have since last night are:

ACDSNY=2
JimmyMartin=2
DCL FAN TAC=3
tlungstrum=4
valbob89=2
rocknspots=2
Phil & Deborah=2

I am really happy to help and participate in any way for this cruise. Getting involved makes for a richer more memorable experience---and you all seem like really nice people and I can't wait to meet you all:)

Thanks again for adding us. The pic of what you did looks amazing.

Just to get on new thread so I can update....

Sorry, thought I confirmed. We'll pay you on the ship.

Greetings everyone!! I'm BAAAAAAACCCCK!!:banana::banana::banana:
Wow, time sure flies when you have too much to do! Given that I cannot access this site from work, many late night meetings, illness, Christmas planning, kid stuff, and reports up the WAZOOO, I have fallen WAY behind (about 80 pages behind)! But, fear not, I did not fall behind on the program. It is ready to go as soon as I get some info from YOU. So, without further adieu, here is what I need...

1. IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL EVENT PLANNED PLEASE PM ME WITH THE DETAILS--Name of person (Dis name as well), date and what the event is (wedding, vows, b-day, etc)

2. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ANY EVENT THAT DIS PEOPLE ARE INVITED TO PLEASE PM ME (meet and greet, party, mixology) with the details (date, time, location)

3. IF YOU HAVE, OR KNOW OF, A RECURRING EVENT PLEASE PM ME (running, yoga, coffee meet) with the details (time, location)

4. IF YOU ARE PLANNING, OR WANT TO PLAN, GAMES, GET-TOGETHERS, ETC, PLEASE PM the details (date, time, location)

5. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TUTOR FOR 1 HOUR ONLY AT 9:00 AM, PLEASE PM ME YOUR DESIRED DATE AND SUBJECT. I'm hoping to set up a tutor schedule that will allow the kiddos to get what they need AND make sure no one feels inconvenienced.

6. IF I FORGOT SOMETHING, PLEASE PM ME!!

I have the main program done, I just need to start filling in the specifics. I hope to hear from all of you by Christmas so that I can have the program ready to download by Dec. 29. I am also looking into getting them printed for everyone, but I need to see how much it would cost. Do you have a preference--Print yourself or pay for a pre-printed one?

I hope you all are having a blessed day and are enjoying this wonderful time of year!

I'm off to catch up on all of your posts, so start blowing up my computer with your PM's!

Hugs,
Melissa

Thanks for all of your hard work, we would just print our own or save it to our computer.

ok i just paid. but i hate stuff like paypal, makes me nervous. i know i'm odd but please let me know you got payment! Sherri

Valerie asked me to look for a "Mexican" shirt at Salvation Army while she was looking for more books. I passed up the t-shirts that said Cabo Wabo Tequila and pulled out the below. Valerie pulled on a blouse and sweater over her shirt and modeled it so you could see its shape and size. The pattern repeats a bit on the back (see mirror). Yup, it says XL on the little tag, and "Made in Guatemala." It feels like it's never been worn or washed -- new out of closet. Maybe we San Franciscans shouldn't use that phrase....

It was realllllly expensive: $2.50, no tax, no shipping charge. If you want it, we'll bring it for you. Let us know. Valerie won't let me be the Frito Bandito, so I'm not going to play Mexican dress-up.

Got it :thumbsup2 Thanks!!!

Well, just made peanut brittle and tomorrow I'm making divinity. Might do some fudge if I get around to it but I'm just glad I can do the other 2.

Hubby gets off tomorrow around 9 am after a 27 hour shift, then he goes back to work on Thursday, then off Fri, Sat. and Sun! This is the first time in several years we've had him home both Christmas Eve and Christmas (with neither a few times)! I've even got him home on New Year's Eve, but he has to go in on New Year's Day for a 24 hour shift. Anyway, hoping to get a bunch of my cruise to do list done while he's home.

Nite Nite everyone!

Is the cruise here yet? :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

Got through my birthday and now Christmas.....come on Jan 5th the day we officially leave for MCO!

I need some pixie dust! THis Summer, a family adopted one of our pups. Thier Grandmother LOVED one of her siblings a boy named Oreo. I still have him and they want to see him tomorrow to see if he gets along with the Grandmother's older dog.

Today - I am taking my other boy pup out to an adoption event. Send lots of Pixie Dust that he finds a home today. I may be abe to get homes for my pups for Christmas!

Des, I hope you got lots of pixie dust and that both pups are on their way to new homes today. That would be so neat.

On another subject, my friend made it out of London today.:worship: She was on the 4th flight to leave Heathrow and it was about 2:30 pm. United brought a plane in from Munich so the London/San Francisco non-stop actually made it. She is one thankful lady!

Corinna, I am sooooo glad I don't have your job. It sounds like you handled it with grace under pressure.:worship: I hope things settle down for you and that you can get all your other assignments done before the end of the year!

PUNTARENAS, COSTA RICA TOURS UPDATE

The DCL-offered excursions for Costa Rica just didn’t meet all of our desires, exploring the rainforest, snorkeling, and site seeing. We also think it is fun to go with a DISboard group we have been planning our trip with and have gotten to know. So I searched for a tour company that might meet all these wishes and found Odyssey Tours. http://www.odysseytourscr.com.
The Odyssey Tours and the Ramirez brothers, Alvaro and Diego, received the highest rating, 5 stars, on TripAdvisor with 59 reviews, http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...untarenas.html Here is our schedule for the tour:
7:30 a.m. pick up time (when ship is scheduled to dock)
Pick up and drop off is outside the dock; a free shuttle runs all day from gate to ship.
The Odyssey fleet are Toyota Hiace 2008, full insured vans, with A/C. Oddessy has offered to provide us with two 34 seat buses for 14 to 22 passengers and two 16 seat vans for groups between 6 and 8 passengers, allowing ample room for a comfortable journey and movement to see animal sightings. Of course there will be driver and nature guide on each vehicle.
Stops for bathrooms and some sightseeing on the way.
While riding in the air-conditioned large van or small bus, being driven by an experienced driver, on the way to Costa Rica’s most popular national park, Manuel Antonio, our knowledgeable nature guide will give us a narrative of the geologic features, national history, local botany, as well as exotic tropical birds, monkeys and sloths. He will answer our questions about Costa Rica in general and also about the towns and sights we will pass. Some of the spots we can expect to see are: Jaco beach, different plantations, and crocodiles in the river of Tarcoles, Hermosa Beach, scarlet macaws nesting area near Carara national park, the colonial village of Villa Lapas and others. While we will stop if a bathroom break is needed, as our primary interest is visiting the National Park, we plan to drive directly to the park
9:50 a.m. Hiking into rain forest national park of Manuel Antonio with an Odessey provided nature guide who will bring books, binoculars and a spotting scope we can share during our tour (Entry fees are included in our tour price.) http://www.costarica-nationalparks.c...ionalpark.html
Manuel Antonio National Park is a forest, thick with massive fichus and two- and three-toed sloths, green and black iguanas, agoutis, four species of monkey (including the highly endangered squirrel monkey, known locally as the mono titi), raccoons, deer, lizards, crocodiles and nearly 200 species of birds, including 2 species of toucans. It's one of Costa Rica's most-visited attractions and not to be missed. Rangers limit the number of guests allowed in at a time to help ensure a good experience for visitors and the park. You will see great wildlife that can be easily spotted from well-marked trails -- a luxury you won't find in the Amazon. And because animals are so used to humans, this is one of the best places to see them up close.
10:50 a.m. Enjoying the beach.

After hiking through the forest we will have about an hour to relax and enjoy the beautiful Manuel Antonio beach. We’ve read that it’s equally good for snorkeling, swimming and just laying on the beach. There we will find new clean restrooms, complete with both inside and outside showers to wash the saltwater off and change. The beach is good for the usual beachy activities; bring a towel, hat, sunscreen, even snorkel gear. Air temperature is usually around 85F, and water at about 80F (the Goofy pool is usually between 82 and 84). Cold bottled water will be available.
12:00 p.m. Hiking out the park for lunch

12:30 p.m. Lunch time.
The tour includes a lunch stop at a quality restaurant where we can choose among traditional Costa Rican favorites such as rice, beans, green salad, plantains with fish, chicken or beef, or maybe you’d prefer rice with chicken or shrimp and a salad and French fries. If you would prefer more familiar foods, burgers and fries or sandwiches are available.

1:30 p.m. driving back to Puntarenas.

Stops for bathrooms, souvenirs, grocery store to purchase coffee, and sightseeing on the way

On the way back to the ship we will have an opportunity to stop at a number of photo opportunities and souvenir shopping spots. These might include Villa Lupas and Santa Lucia, an eco-friendly resort within a tranquil rain-forest preserve for nature lovers. You can cross a suspension bridge to reach a small replica of a Costa Rican colonial village with a restaurant, cantina, church, and gift shops. http://www.villalapas.com/index.html

People have mentioned they like to buy postcards and mail them from the country they are in in order to get the postmark and stamps from the country visited. Alvaro assures us they can make this possible. by stopping at places we can purchase them and seeing we have a way to mail them from Costa Rica. So bring your address list and a pen.

5:00 p.m. drop off in Puntarenas back at the dock and shuttle to the ship.

6:30 p.m. Wonder departs.
The cost of this full-day tour, with park entry fee and lunch included is $85 per person plus tip. Children under 8 years old receive 15% off, under age 3 are free. No payment is required until the day of the tour. Oddessy Tours can now accept credit card payments.

The following 10 cruiser families and 27 individuals have indicated they will be joining us on this tour.

Unlike Mexico, the State Department has no specific warnings for Costa Rica. You can review their travel recommendations at: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p.../cis_1093.html

The State Department recommends http://www.microsites.visitcostarica.com/ to check on tour companies. I sent them an e-mail recently and they promptly responded that they have not received any negative feedback concerning Odessey Tours.

The CDC doesn't have any unusual warnings about traveling in Costa Rica. It indicates the only area of concern specific to Costa Rica is for malaria in Punta Limon, which is on the other side of the country from where we will be. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinat...osta-rica.aspx

PM me if you want to join us. I only need your names, number who will be going on the tour and your cabin number Val

Corinna, what a horrible situation for you to have be involved in:sad2:. I have seen and clearly noticed all the blame shifting on the TV interviews.

My own take is that the airport authorities are most to blame. I would like to see more customer service folk out and about in the terminals, but in the end the authorities seem to leave it ot one or tow poor individuals who really end up losing it! I have read some terrible reports. :eek: I hope I would be gracious if i was a passenger, but I wonder what I would actually be like if it happened to me.

wish i could watch girls! not really interested but DS is student manager of girls basketball at georgia tech. (i feel like i already said this..sorry if it's a repeat).

Corinna, man, i cant believe you and your stff had to put up with that. thats just not right! I just called Delta airlines as ds is on delta for the team coming back to atlanta and atlanta baltimroe and we had to do something. when the guy answered i told him ds's account number and while he was putting it up i asked where he was and if he was having troubles with the snow, and gee i hoped it wasnt too hard on him, and boy do i appreciate his help with what he was doing for me. and he took an extra step to help me too. I doubt i made his night but i hope it made it easier for him fo rthe next call. You just get along so much better, working nicely with each other and realizing that some things are beyond company control. and when things are wihtin control, you'd get better service being nice. it just makes the world a better place. i just hate when people are mean!

Thanks for acknowledging to a member of airline staff that they are doing a good job. I love my job most of the time, but we are often at the end of abuse and most of the time for things that are not our doing. We had the volcanic ash cloud earlier in the year, then another volcanic ash cloud in Indonesia last month, snow at the end of November and again now. There was also political unrest in Thailand a number of times over the last 2 or 3 years. All of those impacted our customers in a negative way, but were not of our doing.

The worst is if the customer book online and get it wrong (wrong name entered, wrong date entered, etc.) and then shout at us and are refusing to pay the penalties to put the error right.

Shouting will not get you anywhere. If I have somebody shouting and cursing, all I want to do is get the person of the phone and I throw the book at them. Believe you me, I can tell the difference between somebody just generally being upset and frustrated and needing to vent and people who are getting personal. The first type, I let them get it off their chest and then will do my level best to help them. They then usually end the call by apologizing for their behaviour.

The second kind, I have no time or sympathy for. They also are the kind that demand compensation or an upgrade for the slightest issue.

When I had to ring customers on Monday to let them know that their flight was now leaving from a different airport, I got all kinds of different reactions. Most people took it pretty well. I spoke to one couple who were a little panicky. They wanted to make this work, but had no idea how they would get to the other airport. So I took the time to ask them what their closest train station was and took the time to research their options. It turned out that there was an hourly direct service to the other airport that got them their much quicker than what it would have taken them to get to the original airport. I gave them the train times and they left reassured.

I had two sisters that are giving me a hard time from the start. They demanded that I told them how to get there and how much it would cost them. I just referred those to the website that I had used for the other couple.

Corinna, what a horrible situation for you to have be involved in:sad2:. I have seen and clearly noticed all the blame shifting on the TV interviews.

I have read some terrible reports. :eek: I hope I would be gracious if i was a passenger, but I wonder what I would actually be like if it happened to me.

I have of course been at the receiving end of this myself. When I was due to travel to Barcelona for my Med cruise in spring, the airports were all closed because of the volcanic ash cloud. I can assure you, I did not scream at the airline. I quietly made alternative arrangements and then called the airline to check if they would let us just use the return portion of the flight.

If the airports are closed when we are due to fly out, I would be devastated. However, I would not scream either. I would see if we could either get a full refund or rebook the flights so that we could use them for our Mexican Riviera Cruise. I really hope that it won't come to this, but there is no point getting nasty with people. This won't get me there either.

Right, I had a productive morning. I am on the last 10 Fish Extender gifts as far as the preliminary work goes. Hopefully the missing component will arrive today and then I can get started of completely assembling them. I find making jewellery very relaxing and don't do it often enough.

Corinna

Yes, DCL are providing transfers. Either phone them or go through your TA. I think it was $30 or so each.

Yes, if you used a TA, you have to contact your TA to set it up. If not, then call DCL directly. It is $30 pp for anyone 3+.
