I'm not sure if this would have made news o/s (not many countries are too interested in Australian news, we've found in our travels ), but Qantas have grounded their fleet of Airbus A380s due to an engine blow-out over Indonesia Not the best way to start the day, as that's the aircraft we're flying on Of course, Qantas are blaming the good folk who manufacture the Rolls Royce engines, but it would seem a maintenance issue to me. Doesn't matter who's to blame, I guess - I'm just worried about what may go wrong on our flights !

Nicole - thanks so much for the email. I need DH to add the font onto our computer, as he's Network Administrator in our house I'm looking forward to having a fiddle with it, though.

Judy (jl) - I was wondering that myself yesterday - it would be wonderful to have Ducky on board (though obviously I've never seen him work, I've seen posts about him, and read about him in various TRs).

Tahara - sorry about the stuff-around with your cabin But hey, welcome to the best part of the ship !!! Be warned, though, I've heard that Australians in general are a rowdy mob

Susan - my youngest turns 6 on day 4 of the cruise, but I'm guessing she'll be too young for what you have in mind ?

Sam - what fantastic photos ! Only problem is I see it being a good 4-6 years before we'll be able to get on one of the new ships (hoping to do either a Wonder sail to Alaska or a sailing around HI next ).

Charlotte - your LV quote sounds excessive to me. I seem to remember I organised transport through the MGM where we stayed, and it wasn't that much (the airport is not very far from downtown LV, either).

Lynne - we're bringing our packable navigator jackets which I ordered through Lands End. My kids use them for school, and I should imagine they'll come in handy for us for things like WOC at DL and any light rain / wind we'll have while we're away. I'm also packing a fleece jacket for everyone. From what I've heard, mornings and nights will be cold for us pre-cruise, and they'll be handy as we sail closer to LA, too. ETA - we're also doing the volcano tour from Puntarenas, and have been advised it may be cold / and or misty/foggy, so another place we may need them.

Leslie - what great surprises for your kids ! I'm trying to rack my brain to work out how to tell my kids. It will probably happen in just over a week, so I need to crank up my thinking gear. Good luck with the jigsaw

Des - how heartbreaking about the sweets and their lack of willingness to do another batch for you I'm still on the same FE drawing board, FWIW

Gail - it was me who mentioned the scout badge swap. I'm a new Cub Scout leader along with my two Cub Scouts, and I know they'd get a huge buzz in being able to do a swap (we have 35 Cub Scouts in total).

I think that's it for now. I'm taking the kids up to the theatre later this morning - the week's caught up with them. Thankfully this morning's performance isn't until 11am. DD5 was gorgeous in "The Seven Ages of Man" excerpt last night, and DD8 had a ball doing her play, too.

I'm going to start sorta sorting things in the next week or 2. I dont need that much detail but do need sometning. If not close, i'll start something and then send to you if you want it to add to! I havent started it yet because I was waiting til this weekend, 11/6, to do it based on the list as of 11/6, 2 months before the cruise, since that is what I'm using for my cutoff. It wont take me long to do, I should have it done by Sunday evening, is that good for you? If anyone else wants it please PM me.

Well... on the candy saga.. the company did not believe me and made me send pictures! So I did..I recieved back a response that they would refund my money. They said it wasn't the norm to be that chipped so I offered to let them try again - they said no

So..UPS is supposed to pick up the candy from me. I am back to the drawing board on an FE gift. Below are some pictures of the candies..sorry they are blurry...

They were M&M type candies...some said:Have a WONDERful cruise and the others said: From Des, Richard & Tori

They were supposed to be black, red and yellow - mickey mouse colors but unfortunately, although they told me there would be some of each color in a bag - there wasn't. Some had all yellow or all black What kind of color scheme is that?

Out of the first box of 50 - 34 were damaged....of the remaining 2 boxes (100 each) there were about 40 damaged in each one.

That is crazy they said thats not the norm, yet they wouldnt produce you another order. Well I'm sure glad you are getting a refund, such a shame though that was such a cool idea you had with the candy. I have had no luck with the sayitbands.com vendor who screwed me over with the terrible quality bracelets so tomorrow I'm calling Mastercard to get the ball rolling on my refund so I can buy from somewhere else.

It seems Paypal is charging me a fee even if you use a checking/savings account! The fun never ends does it?

What a day....had a 0630 hair appointment and then spent three hours at the doctors. Sinus infection and trying to get insurance approval for a MRI for another matter. So, I am a little fuzzy but wanted to say thank you to those of you that have posted information and graphics. That is all very helpful!

With the 'good drugs' I have now, I think it is time to nap. Tomorrow I go to San Jose for a Photoshop Elements 9 Advanced Digital Scrapbooking workshop. Need to be alert to keep up.

My DD and I are doing the "discover scuba" in Aruba and I was wondering if you are provided wetsuits when you go scuba diving or if you just strap the tanks directly on you back?
IF YOU WEAR THE TANKS ON YOUR BACK...
Should I buy a rash guard for DD and myself?
IF YES...
Is there a huge difference between men and women rash guards? I found an ONeil one for $14, but it is for men. There is nothing even CLOSE to that price for women. Any help you can offer is most appreciated!!

Lynne, I don't know if this will help, but our crew (from both Nor and So Cal) are not planning on bringing ANY warm wear. We are, however, planning on buying the PC cruise sweatshirts on the ship as our "traditional" clothing purchase. There is a chance you will have rain when arriving in CA and most certainly very wet "mist" if you go to San Diego, but a light jacket or sweatshirt will serve you well unless you are the type who gets cold easily.


Des, the candies looked amazing!! Even chipped! That was a wonderful and thoughtful gift idea!

Those pictures of the Dream are well, dreamy. But, did anyone notice the fish extender? Could be the angle of the shot but it looks to me like there is no room to hang a FE.

It looks like there's a shadow behind the fish, and you know they have to leave room to put the messages from DVC, DCL, etc, behind the fish. So, we should be able to continue hanging our FEs.

What amused me was the advertisement for Dreamworks coming to Royal Caribbean right at the start of the Disney feature. Wonder what that cost RC for "product placement."

HI! I hate to be the bearer of cold news, but last January when we were at WDW for the marathon it was in the 20s and 30s. I know this is abnormal, but it is often chilly in FL in January, so I'd bring a medium jacket for the Florida and CA part of the trip.

Love'd the pics of the Dream....want to go on it SOOO Bad. Especially since the horn is A Dream is a wish your heart makes!

Our son will be turning 4 on the 17th so if there is a kid celebration we'd love it!

Got my FE gifts done! I hope that you all find them useful!

no sunday is great - thank you! and good luck with the m/c saga. had an actual m/c saga while trying to get plane tickets for ds to come home for thanksgiving. wouldnt verify or validate or something. finally just switched credit cards, and voila, get to see him for first time since mid august!

great exposing kids to this "stuff" so early! DH and I never had much appreciation as we weren't exposed and so we didnt expose our kids either. sigh. though one y'all will get to meet as she's very good freinds with Anne Marie. and that kind of theater.

Gift - Maybe DCL does but don't expect that in DL. We book a suite for our 30th anniversary at the Disneyland Hotel - it wasn't cheap. When we got to the rooms all the furniture was pushed to one side of the living room and the rugs in both rooms were wet. They had shampooed the place a couple hours before check-in. We told the front desk and they asked us if we were going to the park and when we said yes they asked us to - also said they were soldout and couldn't move us. When we got back the power was out in the tower but they let us walk up the stairs to our room - on the top floor. It was to dark to take a shower and change into our dressy clothes so we cancelled our reservation at the steak house and just went to the coffee shop. We had been in the park most of the day, it was hot and so were we but there was a wedding reception in the banquet room on the first floor so I felt I didn't have anything to complain about. No lights and no music for that poor couple.
The rugs stayed wet the whole weekend. I complained. The "gift" I got, a note saying so sorry and two rice crispy treats. Should have made a big stink but didn't (so not like me). val

They would have SO been moving me to the Grand Californian for the same rate or less.

I really need a konk kooler! It's been that kind of day! On top of all of this - today was pick up day for the local GS leaders to pick up all of thier nuts & candies from me...between all this and that and teaching my daughter - I'm done!
