From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

I just checked the website and it is showing NO verandah rooms available now. I think whoever suggested GTY assignments are coming soon is right :cool1:.
I think 45 days out.
Some have mentioned wearing special dresses for villains night. Is this something that people decide on their own or is more like a pirate dress up night?

After Halloween is the best time to shop if I need to get "parts" so I can play too! Long black gloves? What else??

I have never gotten over playing dress up!!! :cutie:

I was thinking there won't be a "Villains" night, because that show is not on the Wonder. There was not a "Golden Mickey's" night on the Magic. But, DCL may be looking for nights to fill, so you never know. I would bet against it, though.

Great Picture! I can do this. And you made the masks onboard??
Barb

Ohhhh....I'm sad now. No Villains?

How do we know what shows will be on the WONDER?

I did wonder myself about that. I think Toy Story is on the Wonder and not on the Magic.

The thing is, DCL didn't actually say what the theme night was going to be, just that it was a theme night. It was because the Baltic and Med cruises had the Villains night that we presumed ours would be the same. Fortunately it was as the clothing was sorted!!!

I hope we don't have a Toy Story theme night!!! Who's going as Mr Potato Head?:lmao:

I thought that as well, there is no villians show on the wonder is there?

Barb, I bought mine but others made there masks.

That might actually be fun! DH and I would go as Woody and Bo Peep. Not counting on that though.

I'd be happy with either Villains or Toy Story. DS & DD were Woody & Bo Peep for Halloween last year, and the costumes still fit, so they'd love a Toy Story night!

If you use the ship to call in OR out it's about $8 a minute (or was december a year ago when i checked). With cells, if you have a phone from Tmobile or i think sprint, it may be internationally enabled and you just have to ask them to turn it on temporarily. It would still be expensive, but no where near that price! I know verizon and most others do not have that capability. you could buy a paygo phone from sprint or tmobile and save a lot of money. This info comes from 2 places - number 1: my DD2 worked for Sprint last year and works for a different cell company now and 2: as i'd mentioned, i work for the Defense Dept and we send people all over the world for trips from 1 week to 5 months. We send them with cell phones. and 3 i called tmobile and sprint (had one now have the other), so really 3 places. but the 8 aminute comes from disney. just so you know and can look into it. i've not actually asked them about the paygo phones, but now that you mention it, i'm going to. i'll let you know what they say. and i'm goinjg to ask sprint what it costs to enable international for month.

I look forward hearing what you find out. Last time I checked, the prepaid phones did not work on cruise ships. Has anyone used one of the succesfully?

My husband and I have just booked this cruise.:cool1: Is it too late to join the FE list. We are very excited to meeting everyone. We currently have a gty room.

Welcome on board.

Thanks val!

I think it's the menu for formal night. Since we have 2, I guess it will be one of those nights. So, we will be dressed like princesses and princes. I was trying on my dresses a couple of weeks ago and I put on my long evening gown. When I opened the bathroom door, DS said "Ooh, you look like a princess!"

On the Med cruise and the Transatlantic cruise, the Prince and Princess menu was served on Formal Night (on the first of two formal nights on the Transatlantic). A lot of us got tiaras for that night. I wore the blue gown that I posted the photo of and a silver and blue tiara.

here was our Princess picture:

Here was our PJ Breakfast picture:

And here was our Pirate picture:

I love the photos. Thanks for posting them. Unfortunately we did not have a group photo taken on Prince and Princess Night.

LOVE the pictures of the princess night!! Thanks so much for sharing, I am so getting the white gloves and a tiara now! I never got to dress up as a princess as a little girl- I was quite the tomboy- but I did a total 180 at some point later in my life and now I'm obsessed with the whimsical fairytales and anything Disney, especially the princess stories- I want my wedding dress to look like Cinderella : ) So this will be so awesome to have the chance to wear the tiara and gloves! I was also thinking about getting an up-do in the salon- has anyone gotten one on board before and if so, do you know how much it cost?

I passed in the end, but I was looking into having an updo at the salon. The prices ranged from $57 to $74 for mid-length hair. In the end I opted for Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique and that cost me $49 and included a Mickey hair clip, tiara and make up. It is such a shame that they won’t be offering this on the Wonder.

I'm think the East meets West was the menu on the day of the Panama Canal crossing. They gave us those menu's, but I have just thrown them out. :rolleyes1 I'm thinking a mix of dishes from Caribbean to Mexican.

Not sure apart from that if there was anything special about it at dinner time, though there were things going on for the crossing. There were coffee and pastries early morning up on the sports deck, a barbecue at lunch time and an ex PC pilot commentating throughout the crossing, which was excellent. Everything was shown on the big screen and on the in room TV's so you didn't miss much around and about.

We did have a Tropical Night when we were in the Caribbean and people wore tropical wear such as Hawaiian shirts for the men and anything tropical themed for the ladies. There were some very pretty dresses and mumu's(sp?) worn.

There was Mexican Night over in the Pacific where people wore everything from traditional Mexican wear to the ridiculous and funny party type gear. Many men bought the Mexican wedding shirts(John did) and the easiest thing for the ladies was embroidered blouses etc. Some actually bought something in a Mexican port. There was a Mexican Show that night. I also think they had a Mexican Deck party at some point.

Pirates was in the Pacific, but that could change of course. I think they called it Pirates NOT in the Caribbean!!

You don't find out your dining rotations until you get to your room these days. It used to be noted in initials on your key card, but not this last time anyway. Dining times have been 6pm and 8.30pm recently too.

This sounds very tempting. I hope we get the same kind of things on our cruise. I might have to get something in one of the ports if we do an Mexican night.

I did not like it at all that the dinner rotation is no longer on the Key To The World Card. On the med cruise, it was on there. I hope this was just an oversight.

I am keeping busy here as well. I had three days off over the weekend and yesterday we went to see the Tutankhamun exhibition that opened in Manchester just over a week ago. Graham was a bit reluctant about this when I suggested this, but he was just as fascinated by it all as I was. We had a wonderful time and spent about 3 hours in the exhibition. The museum that the exhibition was shown in is right next to one of the big shopping malls so we spent some time afterwards going window-shopping and then had a lovely meal.

I have some issues with the CD I got on the Transatlantic. Now that I have downloaded all the photos from my camera and from the CD, I noticed that I am missing at least 50 photos. Essentially none of the photos that were taken after September 27th made it onto the CD. As I was not feeling too well on the debarkation morning, I just cast a cursory glance over the sheet with the thumbnails and did not notice anything that was missing. I have now emailed them with a detailed description of the missing photos. They emailed me back today asking for our full names, cabin number and reservation number and said they would forward this to the photo manager on the Magic to see if the photos can be recovered. I just hope that this can be sorted out.

I had a bit of a surprise today that first had me absolutely delighted, but soon turned sour. I think I mentioned before that I have applied for a promotion in Dubai. I have been anxiously waiting for an update for the past two weeks. Today I had an email saying that I have been shortlisted for a written assessment in Dubai. I was very happy with this, until I saw the date. I was supposed to be in Dubai for this tomorrow morning. There is no chance I could have got there on such short notice. Even if I had picked up the email yesterday, when it had been sent, it would have been too late to get all the arrangements made. I have now emailed them back to ask if I can do the assessment here in Manchester or if I could come to Dubai to do it at a later date, but so far no reply. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that something can be sorted out.

I did however have one lovely surprise. I had ordered a new evening gown for semi-formal night. This was coming from China again and it normally takes a month to produce and then another week to 10 days for it to arrive. I had ordered this on October 19th and it already arrived today. It is royal blue satin with black lace overlay and a bit of a train. It looks really stunning. I think I might well have the same dress made in ivory with ivory lace for our vow renewal.

:eek::scared1::eek::scared1:That is ridiculous.

Can anyone tell me what the snorkeling in Aruba is like or Manzanillo? We have snorkled in the Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica and none of them held a candle to Hawaii. I am trying to decide whether or not to snorkle. I do not want to be totally disappointed. slightly disappointed is fine.

QUOTE]

We agree that the snorkeling in Hawaii is much better then any we have done in the Caribbean. We decided on Aruba cause the water should be much warmer then Manzanillo, at least that is what we read. I didn't read anything that made we think one was better then the other. But as you know, especially in the winter, one day could be great and the next disappointing. We had two snorkeling excursions cancelled last winter because of high wind and surf.

It's hard to hold a candlestick to Hawaii! I havent been in Aruba, but have in Manzanillo. Wasnt thrilled with Manzanillo. Also, consider the water temperature. It will be much warmer in Aruba. ValBob89 has put together an awesome sounding sorkel trip in Aruba. There is info on page 1. That's where I'll be.

Oh...this feels so wrong...can any one give me an idea on the logistics of going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter from WDW? DD wants to go and I am told there is only half a day of stuff to do there. Is is far from WDW. Could we cab it for a half day?

Wizarding World of Harry Potter is in Universal Islands of Adventure. Its probably 20mins from WDW depending on where you are staying. (I know it takes 25-30 mins from Windsor Palms south of WDW). Its an easy drive if you have a rental car or you will probably need to catch a cab if you are staying on WDW property. Disney do everything they can to encourage you to stay on property without being able to leave.:rotfl:

I haven't yet been to WWHP, but I know they re-purposed two existing rides and added one new one. The new one is supposed to be amazing. With the stores and theming, I would guess half a day is about right just for that part of the park. But there are several other sections and rides to do/see at US. You could easily spend 2 days there doing the rides. The spiderman ride is neat - I would say a 'must do ride' if you are there. A couple of fun wet rides where you DO get soaked, and I mean SOAKED. If you have never been, I would say spend some more time there beyond WWHP. There are roller coasters for those that like the thrill rides, but there are other rides that are not roller coasters that are fun for non ride junkies (like moi!)

If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them!

Ooh, might have to reconsider the snorkel adventure in Manzanillo that we were going to do. :upsidedow

I agree they are really messing with us now. Yesterday no cat. 7 and today they're back and all the cat. 4-6 are gone.:confused3

Maybe, Just Maybe they are getting our rooms assigned and .... dare I say ... upgrades ready .... :grouphug:

good luck, your pic never worked

Like the idea of the mixology - not sure if it is for the men to get together while the chamgagne girls have their get together- I think it started out that way but now I am not sure just what it is. Will there be any non-alcoholic fancy drinks?

On the Transatlantic cruise, the drinks were very alcoholic. We made a Cosmopolitan, Margarita, Caiphirinha, B52 and also got a Pina Colada.

It originally was suggested as an activity the guys would do as we CG but the only interest seemed to be an event everyone could join in. I asked DCL about a non-alcoholic offering and was told they could do that but it didn't sound like it was going to be any cheaper. She did say she thought they would allow observers who didn't eat or drink but where there and there would be no cost. I'll ask again when I give her the final counts on Friday. Then we'll have to wait and see what/if they offer.

If this is something that is open to everybody, then I would love to join. I was going to do this again anyway as I enjoyed it so much, but would prefer to do it as a DIS group.

Some have mentioned wearing special dresses for villains night. Is this something that people decide on their own or is more like a pirate dress up night?

I have never gotten over playing dress up!!! :cutie:

Barb

I don't think we will get a Villains Night as this was on the same night on which Villains Tonight was shown on the Magic. On the Wonder they show Golden Mickeys instead.

Ooh, an upgrade would be very nice. Hoping for a cat 9 here :goodvibes

We have a "do not upgrade" added to our reservation. I always book the category that I want and don't want DCL to mess with this.

Corinna

One thing to consider about the theme nights is the length of the Wonder cruises now. They've doubled in length. So while something may not be on the Wonder now, our cruise would be an excellent opportunity for DCL to try some news things/ moved things for entertainment.
So I wouldn't say we won't have X, Y, Z; we just don't know.
