From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 4

Just a bit of info as I'm still in shock. I got my phone bill today that covered the WBTA. My onboard phone calls to my DH came to 1035.00 US dollars! Yikes! And the reception was not all that good. Sometimes I had to call him three times in a row to finish our conversation as the calls kept dropping. DH was prepared for it but I wasn't. He asked me when I was going to start listening to him, yeah right, after 35 years of marriage what does he think? hahaha

On this cruise he will be along so no outgoing phone calls for us!

We have already starting talking to our girls about this .... This confirms that they MUST leave their phones at home!

In Cabo there's a Starbucks on the main street with free internet. They have an upstairs with both indoor and outdoor seating. I spent a lot of time there a year ago when we did the Baja HaHa. The reception was really good.

I have several friends that are cruising on their sailboats that will be in Puerto Vallarta for the month of December. I'll ask them to let me know the best places for free internet. If anyone knows where to get good free stuff it would be cruisers, sailboat cruisers that is!

Thanks everyone for your snorkeling advice...and Kay for your WWOHP advice. We only have two days at WDW before the cruise so I wasn't keen on giving up too much of my WDW time!

On the Transatlantic cruise, the drinks were very alcoholic. We made a Cosmopolitan, Margarita, Caiphirinha, B52 and also got a Pina Colada.
If this is something that is open to everybody, then I would love to join. I was going to do this again anyway as I enjoyed it so much, but would prefer to do it as a DIS group.
I don't think we will get a Villains Night as this was on the same night on which Villains Tonight was shown on the Magic. On the Wonder they show Golden Mickeys instead.
We have a "do not upgrade" added to our reservation. I always book the category that I want and don't want DCL to mess with this.

Corinna

I didnjt know you could do a do not upgrade! i'll have to let DH know -i only want an upgrade if it moves me to a place where there's a place to move to when the snoring next to me gets too loud!

clearly i dont drink enough - have no idea whats in a b52 and have never heard of a caiphirinha!! :)

WOW! Would you have to MOVE to Dubai? My fingers are crossed for you!!!

WOW! good luck - though i admit i am not envious - Dubai is somewhere i'd want to visit for about a WEEK!

We have already starting talking to our girls about this .... This confirms that they MUST leave their phones at home!

just talked to 2 people - one who's worked at 2 different cell companies for the last 5 + years and one who works at one now. They both said DO NOT ever get paygo, and paygo phones do not work overseas. they also suggested not getting the international plan added to sprint or tmobile for the 2 weeks. they said at first stop (or here if we go to a 7-11 type place) get an international calling card and use that at pay phones. those come out to about 15 cents a minute or less. in a REAL emergency, somoene can call the ship. just saying. .. but do what's best for you!

As promised here are pictures of the front and back of my vista print shirts- I did our "official" logo in large on the back, but added some words below it and I added my Disney World and Disneyland logos and dates to the graphic to show the dates of my entire trip. For the front I used the circular graphic from a fellow DISer and added some other wording and did it smaller size and toward the left pocket area. I am pleased with the quality of the shirts, certainly not the best quality tshirts I own but more than satisfactory for the cheap price and more importantly, hassle free ability to use the Disney images and logos without the website flagging it for copyright. Most importantly THANK YOU to all of the DISers who gave us such beautiful designs and graciously shared them with the rest of us graphically challenged people :worship:

Nicole - I love the shirt. Would you mind sending me the picture for the back? I'd like to do the same thing if you don't mind.

Great t-shirts. I really gotta get those done.:lmao:

When o when will we get the schedule!? Its too hard to guess what nights will be where. Danggit.

And <ahem> DCL...my stateroom number please....;)

:sad1: I just got home from working the election all day and was excited to see my FE gifts arrived! I had ordered printed chocolates (kind of like M&Ms but a different brand). I had chosen red, black and yellow for the colors....

I started pulling out the bags and the candies are chipped! The red looks like a brownish red color and the printing is missing or smeared on most of them! I am so disappointed! I have written an email to the company and will need to see what they say - I want my money back and find something else to give.

I hope they let me do that...I was so exited too! :sad2:

How disappointing Des! I hope the company comes through for you.

Des, so sorry to hear about the candy. Its the thought that counts! Such a nice thing to do.

Corinna, did you hear any word about an alternative arrangement for the job consideration?

I hope you get your suite upgrade!!!:lmao: I now wear ear plugs so don't have your problem, but our next door neighbours will.;)

I would hate to be moved from a cabin I had carefully chosen, though I think the higher the category you have chosen the less chance of an upgrade. I keep forgetting to get my TA to get the 'do not upgrade' added to our reservation.

I would love to visit Dubai for a couple of days, but not to live there, even for a short time. It must be an amazing place to see. Our son had a few days there on his honeymoon on the way back from the Maldives. They loved it.

Oh how disappointing, particularly as you had gone to so much trouble too. I hope you get your money back.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

30 nippy degrees here this morning.

GLAD the election is over - now maybe the annoying phone calls and commercials will stop.

Off to the gym again this morning. The scales are still stuck. :(

Yesterday, I collected my dress from the tailor, added a day to my Candy Cane Inn reservation, arranged for a towncar to collect us, and arranged for my ecv for Disneyland. Slowly but surely things are checked off the list.

Happy Day, All!

Still nursing a cold, but watching Cruise Ship Diaries for the umpteenth time to keep me in cruise mode :) Day one of the Shakespeare festival went well - 2 days to go .

DES - sorry to hear about the fate of your sweets :( I hope the company comes to the party for you.

Nicole - I love your shirt ! It looks fabulous !

I think I've crossed off everything now in terms of booking except for our arrival day in LA - still trying to work out the logistics of occupying the day with luggage in tow....

Short and sweet tonight. I'm about to take a Disprin for the sinus pain, then I'm heading to bed.

Have a great day/night.

Cheers,
Sally :)

One thing to consider about the theme nights is the length of the Wonder cruises now. They've doubled in length. So while something may not be on the Wonder now, our cruise would be an excellent opportunity for DCL to try some news things/ moved things for entertainment.
So I wouldn't say we won't have X, Y, Z; we just don't know.

I do agree that we won't know what exactly DCL will have up their sleeves for us. However, we can take it as given that we won't get Villains Tonight and therefore probably not the Villains Night. Villains Tonight is a very elaborate stage show with lots of props. They won't have the room for the additional props. If it was not for that, I could imagine them doing it as a kind of dress rehearsal for the performers that will do the show on the Dream.

WOW! Would you have to MOVE to Dubai? My fingers are crossed for you!!!

Yes, this would mean that we have to move to Dubai. Graham is tied to the UK until August, but we have lived apart before and working for an airline, we could fly backwards and forwards for next to nothing. He would then join me in Dubai and "tele-commute".

I didnjt know you could do a do not upgrade! i'll have to let DH know -i only want an upgrade if it moves me to a place where there's a place to move to when the snoring next to me gets too loud!

I did not know this until earlier this year either. I hate the split room with a passion and created a bit of a stir when DCL upgraded us from our category 12 to a category 10 for our Med cruise. Our travel agent managed to convince DCL to put us back in a category 12. I had posted about this on the cruise meet thread and somebody mentioned that you can add a "do not upgrade" notice on the reservation. When I booked this cruise on the Magic, I asked about this and was told that this would be no problem. This will be added to every cruise reservation from now on.

clearly i dont drink enough - have no idea whats in a b52 and have never heard of a caiphirinha!! :)

B52 was new to me as well, but very yummy.

The B-52 (also B52 or Bifi) is a layered cocktail shooter composed of a coffee liqueur (Kahlúa), an irish cream (Baileys Irish Cream), and an orange cognac (Grand Marnier). When prepared properly, the ingredients separate into three distinctly visible layers. The layering is due to the relative densities of the ingredients.

Caipirinha is one of my favourite cocktails normally, but I hate the DCL version. We have a fantastic Brazilian restaurant near where I live and they do the most wonderful Caipirinhas. DCL makes them with rum rather than Cachaca and it tastes completely different

Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça (pronounced , sugar and lime. Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. While both rum and cachaça are made from sugarcane-derived products, most rum is made from molasses. Specifically with cachaça, the alcohol results from the fermentation of sugarcane juice that is afterwards distilled.

The quotes come from Wikipedia.

WOW! good luck - though i admit i am not envious - Dubai is somewhere i'd want to visit for about a WEEK!

Dubai is a wonderful and fascinating place. If you ever have the chance to go and visit, you should. I love how old meets ultra modern and the cultural diversity.

I am so sorry that this did not work out. I hope that they come through for you.

Corinna, did you hear any word about an alternative arrangement for the job consideration?

I am on late shifts this week and won't get into work until 12:30 UK time. Hopefully there will be news then. My line manager is on vacation at the moment, but one of the other Operations Managers is helping me with this and said she would escalate this if I have not received a satisfactory response by today.

I would love to visit Dubai for a couple of days, but not to live there, even for a short time. It must be an amazing place to see. Our son had a few days there on his honeymoon on the way back from the Maldives. They loved it.

For me Dubai was love at first sight when I first went there on duty travel in April 2008. Last Christmas, I took Graham for the first time. Initially he was not too sure, but by the end of the week, he loved it as much as I do. He has been asking ever since when I was going to get a job in Dubai. I suffer from SAD and living in the city that is statistically the wettest in the UK does simply not work for me. I think I would cope much better in Dubai. Of course, tax free income, more vacation time, a pay rise and being able to just head for the beach on my days off are powerful incentives as well.

I tried on my new dress today and it is just perfect. I can't wait to wear it. These are photos from the seller's Ebay shop, which show the detail:

I think this works really well with the blue.

I hope you will feel better soon.

We have the same problem. Our flight from LAX is at 6:35 PM on the day we arrive in Los Angeles. I would not mind spending 8 hours or so at Orlando International, but there is very little by the way of facilities at LAX. I think I might need to see if I can convince Graham to hire a car for the day and head to Downtown Disney for a few hours.

I have seen both the Villian and the Golden Mickey Show. Personally I think the Golden Mickey Show was super. There were a lot of mixed reviews on the Villian show. We saw it twice and I loved the dancing and special effects but I did not care for the story line. But that is just me.

We did have a get together after the Villian second show. It was late and many people did not even know about it.It is important to read the Navigator.

With the luggage situation and the fact that we will be spending 3 days at Dl and 3 days in Las Vegas I will probably not be bringing more than a couple dressy outfits- not evening gown types- but will still take part in the formal activities.

It is getting cold here in Connecticut. Can't wait to get back to FL.
This weekend we are going to a bookstore at the CT shore. They are having a book signing by Buddy Valastro who does the Cake Boss show on the cable station TLC. Anyone that does any type of cake decorating should try and watch the show. Some of the cakes he makes are unreal. He could do the Disney Magic and have every little detail on it. It is too bad we can't get him to make a cake for the Disboards group to have on the ship. Wouldn't that be
something.

For those that ordered through Vista.............just received my order and the ladies t-shirt doesn't look fitted or cap sleeve like the picture. Anyone else order the ladies fit and how does your look?

Also, still looking to order Jeff's original design and can't figure out zazzle. If I can figure out how to make the design large would order from Vista, it's so much less money.

Has there been any thought to linking late diners for same rotation?

Sure thing, I just PM'd you!

So sorry for the disappointment! I know EXACTLY how you feel, in fact I was going to post this sooner or later so I might as well share now so no one else makes this mistake. I had wanted to order my own custom bracelets so I could choose my wording (like my tshirt, I wanted to incorporate more than just the cruise part of the trip on it). Someone suggested sayitbands.com from a previous cruise trip they used that site for. Please DO NOT use that site! I ordered from them on 10/24. I ordered the lime green color of course and was able to choose my wording and they even had the Mickey head that you could include as well. It came to about $10 including shipping for 2 bracelets. I was so excited when they arrived only 2 days later! But like Des' experience with the candies, my excitement quickly turned to sheer disappointment- first off, the bracelets had typos on them, they said 2010 not 2011! I immediately reviewed both my email confirmation and also the enclosed receipt in the package, and both showed 2011 correctly, so the 2010 typo was totally on them. But even worse, the quality of the bracelets was HORRIBLE. It was the cheapest, thinnest silicone bracelet I'd ever held, and the supposedly 'debossed' imprint lettering was barely debossed at all--it was so faint, I had to hold the bracelet only a few inches from my eyes to even read it! The bracelet was so shoddy. I immediately went to the website to find a phone number to call and complain, but there was none listed- only email. That should have been a red flag for me to not order to begin with, I hate sites that dont allow you to call for anything. So, I had to resort to emailing them. They responded the next day and apologized for the typo, said they could re-do, but then he said that the lime green color from what they've heard from other customers, is the worst color for the lettering to show up on. I thought that was BS since I have seen other lime green bracelets that I could read from several feet away, and couldnt read this piece of junk from right up close. He asked if I would therefore consider another color. I replied and said I wont consider another color since I want the 'official' color of my travel group, so if he cant reprint better quality on the lime green, then I want a refund. This message was from last Wednesday, and I have not heard anything back since then. I followed up with another message over the weekend, still no reply. Obviously this company has no ethics, no customer service, and very poor workmanship, so please if you were thinking of using them, do not. Thank goodness I'm only out $10 and not more. Des, I hope you have better luck with your candy company order and hope they make things right for you since you ordered so much! In the meantime I'm hoping tinksmom will be able to add me to her bracelet order list so I can still get one since the 2 I have are worthless junk.

Corinna

Corinna. I've added 2 to the count number I will be giving DCL on Friday for a Mixology Tasting and Hawaiian Shirt Contest. Hopefully the Special Functions Request Dept can accomodate us. Will keep you all posted.
