Thanks Lynne. Seriously, if I want to enjoy something outside, I just get room service, go up to deck 9 to get my drink, and eat at the cove or go down to deck 4 and eat in one of those super nice chairs. All I need from my room is a bed, shower, toliet, sink, and a closet.
Yes, we done that too, If money was no object I would have a balcony, but I still would go up on deck to enjoy outside space.
I think cruisers fall into two groups, those who love their own outside space/ view and those who don't care. (Of course there are those who love it, bit don't want to pay for it). Jeff and I fall squarely in those who love it. Thankfully we can pay for it, but having said that, we don't need it.

Thats is true, we are doing pc and trans atlantic cruise for the same price as 1 cruise with a balcony, for me that is a noe brainer as I have enough time off work to do both. Differant strokes for differant folks.
I also think if you have kids tucked up in bed it might be nice aloneish time for parents. Since the beagles cant go it doesnt apply to us:rotfl:

Hi everyone on this thread. My husband and I just returned from 25 days aboard the Magic. We did the Transatlantic and continued on to the Med.cruise. It was absolutely wonderful. On the TA there were 363 Disboarders on board and on the Med. about 160. We had a lot of activities and great times together.
While on board we booked the Panama cruise from Port Canaveral to LA. We would like to join any FE or other groups that have been formed for this cruise. Also would appreciate any info you can give us.
We are also interested in doing some private van tours in some of the ports. My husband has a little difficulty walking long distances. We did this on the last two cruises and it worked out well so if anyone is getting any van groups together please let me know.
Looking forward to reading this thread and getting to know everyone.

We are also cheapskates. I have a whole section in my blogroll of frugal sites. Coupon clipping, sale hunting diva. Except on vacations. We have always spent more. Granted the first PC cruise we had one of the "obstructed" verandah rooms. We spend in some areas and save in others. We would be fine this cruise in a Cat 7 or even 8. But my Mom likes to be pampered and not have to work at anything on vacation (can't blame her, she's been a nurse since Florence Nightingale - seriously!). She works hard (suppose to be retired and still works full time), so when we go away I want her to relax. So we're in a Cat 2 (which will be open to ya'll on selected nights, like Sci-Fi night and the Canal crossing.)
It really just is what works for you. If Jeff and I were childless and not traveling with a family, we might have done a cat 10. Who knows. Right now having some outside space works for us.
Whatever.....
Anyone else watching the new season of Doctor Who? I LOVE Matt Smith as the Doctor!!!

I love the new Doctor and Amy too.:thumbsup2

JennKatt. I have to admit if we could aforid a cat. 1,2,or 3 we so would. We love to do the whole pampering on vacation thing as well. I think we would if we could. Has anyone told you that you are wise? If not, I just did. That being said, I can't wait to party in your room. :)

Well, you lucky thing, welcome to our happy thread.

I would have an inside room if it just didn't bring me out panicky just thinking about it!!!!! Even though it is irrational, just the thought of no window makes me feel breathless.:confused3 I think if I woke up in the night I would have a problem.

You're not alone...I'd be the same way. I can handle obstructed ocean view cabins, but I need to see daylight in the morning. We are splurging on the PC cruise with a cat. 7.

I hope your surgery gets scheduled soon.:flower3:

Who?!

Oh yes, I am very much in lust with Matt Smith! I even like his companion! Sigh. I really enjoy the music this year too! I can't wait to see the episode about vampires in Venice! The angels this year were extra-creepy!

I should be outside enjoying the nice windy day here in Maryland but I can't stop playing with my Pink Dell laptop computer! And I've begun to make a list of what to bring on the cruise---I am debating whether or not to do laundry---the last time we did laundry on vacation was on our 3 week tour of England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland. We ended up doing laundry in Edinburgh ( I actually enjoy Glasgow much better---Go Rangers! ) for our 10th wedding anniversary. Does anyone else do laundry while on vacation?

I hope that everyone is having a pleasant weekend!

Welcome HappyGoofy! Wow how lucky to spend so much time on board. Make sure you check out the website devoted to who we are, where we are from and it will tell you who is handling FE's and Secret Mickeys. Although I know they are waiting until it gets closer to the date.

Happy Mother's Day Weekend everyone!

I'll have my DGS (and his dog) for the weekend while his parents are celebrating their anniversary in Bodega Bay.

Tonight I'm taking my oldest niece to a RiverCats game (baseball) since I took my DGS and other niece a couple of weeks ago. I gave DH a choice of watching the 3 yr old DGS or going to the game with our niece and he picked watching the 3 yr old, silly man.

And it's nice to have sunlight and moonlight.you're right - my mom, may she rest in peace, always said that's why they make chocolate and vanilla! and i thnk i'm a bit claustrophobic. so a window at miniumum for me!(us). especially for 15 days!!

will be joining the FE and so forth soon!!

and i see somene broght up laundry - good point! dont' have enough room for clothes for 15 days. so, what do the washer/dryers cost and detergent and stuff? anyone who's been on the longer cruises have advice?

Thank you. I hope so too. Then I can really get thinking about this cruise instead of medical things!!!:lmao:

I always do laundry on vacation, no matter how many clothes I take. For some reason I keep washing and wearing the same things!!!!!:confused3 I go through many more items of clothing on a hot holiday though.

I was awake some nights on our last PC cruise, and just loved being out on the balcony watching the waves.

I seem to remember the washload being $2 and the dryer being $1. You now swipe your room key instead of using cash which is much easier. There is a vending machine for powder etc, but I take my own.

I can't imagine taking home 15 days worth of undies!!!!!

I did think about sending clothes to the laundry, but still wouldn't send the unmentionables, so would have to wash anyway!!!!! I will send items out to be pressed though. They made a great job of my husband's suit.

Thanks Alan, I don't think I'm wise, just pragmatic. Living in the South has done wonders for me to realize that people don't all fit in the same square box (despite being told we should). And that it's ok.
There's no way Jeff and I could afford this room on our own! So we're reaping the benefits of my mom's years of hard work. (Apparently being a nurse from the dawn of time has it's advantages!)
Before anyone says anything about me picking on my Mom being an ancient nurse, understand I have YET to find someone who is still practicing as long as she has. Really. Some of the things she did when she graduated with her first nursing degree scare the crud out of me! :scared1: And she let me become a nurse!
We will have our room open for tours on canal day, for a period of time anyway. I remember in 05, seeing the Walt on Canal day, WOW! And yes we're still hoping for a cat 1, but I know one person who has one and isn't giving it up! So we'll be happy with our cat 2.

I did my nurse training from 1966 - 1969. I moved away and got married then, and only ever worked part time for short periods after that. Things really have changed since then. In fact I was a nursing cadet when I was 16, in 1964, and goodness. I started work at 8am, and the nurses who had started at 7.30am had pulled all the beds out(Nightingale wards) and then started serving breakfasts. As part of the ward cleaning we went round the back of the beds and washed them all down together with the lockers. and the cleaners cleaned the floors etc. Nothing like that these days over here anyway. We also had Matron's then who scared the living daylights out of us!!!!!

We spent much more time on nursing care then than nurses do now, which isn't a bad thing, there are others to do that. Things are much more technical now. However when I was in hospital in December nursing care was very much lacking and I just couldn't believe what was not done.

Ok, i'll ask the obvious - cause i jst dont know much...what is your room that you open it for tours? what kind of tours? So i assume at some point you'll explain and give your room number? thanks - and sorry to be such a newbie! seems many of you know each other and all and i just stay confused. my kids will tell you that has nothing to do with the cruise, but oh well! thanks, sherri

We're splurging since we'll have 2 kiddos in the 3 and under crowd who will be *fingers crossed* taking naps daily and going to bed earlyish. We don't want to be stuck tiptoeing around them and figure we'll escape to the verandah.:goodvibes

We don't normally do laundry on vacation, but with me, DH, and two small kids we definately will this time. This made me think of the time our dryer broke and rather than go to a laundry mat, we booked a room at Saratoga Springs and stayed the night and did laundry:rotfl:

I agree, the trouble nowadays is that everybody ignores stuff and hpes that others will do it, when I sat in casualty for 4 hours one night, there was blood on the floor, I CANNOT Believe how many folks walked past it and ignored it, hell, I felt like cleanng it myslef.

On our trans atlantic cruise we are doing room tours, just so that all the folks can see what the diff cat's look like, so it is basicly just a nosey:lmao:

I can see how that would def be worth the money.

Happy Saturday everyone!

We're doing this cruise "cheap" too. I know that guest 3 & 4 are cheaper than guests 1 & 2 , but overall it averages out to just under $115/person/night for a cat 11 for the 4 of us. Not bad. Sure, I would love a balcony but I just feel lucky to be able to afford this cruise now. When DH is finished with fellowship, I would love to book the Walt as a celebration.

As far as laundry, I will probably end up doing some. I hate to, but 15 days worth of clothes is a lot to bring! Someone asked the price. In Dec, it was $2 to wash and $2 per cycle to dry. It took 2 cycles to get the clothes dry. I don't know the price of the detergent because I took my own. I had pre-measured into baggies but since they are HE washers, I only used about half.
