I was wondering which is faster we paln on leaving early (1or 2 am)
which do you think would be faster? And where would you stop to only have 7 or 8 hours to drive on our second day? We ill be leaving the end of Feb.

Whatever you do, do not get on I95 until you get to NJ... The part of I95 that goes through NYC can be bad at any time of the day.

As for being 7-8 hours from Disney I think that would put you somewhere toward the end of SC or possibly the beginning of GA.

I really don't know.

I live in southern CT & depending on the time you get down here you may be in rush hour traffic going into NYC which starts around 7 ish.

You can either go to Hartford & get on 84, towards Danbury & then get on 87 (I think, I am going from memory) & then you will hit NJ & either The Garden State Parkway or the NJ Tpke.

Or you can head over to NY via MA (not sure what route it is but I know you pick it up north of Springfields & it is the Mass Pike.

I really don't know what would be quicker but since it is Feb, I'd have both ways mapped out just in case one area gets a doozy of snow storm.

Thanks , I just might have to do that. We know the way to CT better then NY Because we have family in Shelden CT and go down that way at least once a year.
I am hoping to hear from people from NY to find out which way they go to Disney

Having just made the trip a month ago from northeastern CT, I can only relate what we did. We left at 10:18 pm, went down 91 to the Merritt (Wilber Cross in that area) to the exit for 95 and followed 95 all the way to I4 in FL. NY and the GWB was a cake walk at that hour. In fact, we were very lucky in that we never hit any traffic until Jacksonville. We did it in one straight shot, arriving in Orlando at 6:00 pm. Rain started as we were leaving GA and it slowed us down and the rain/traffic in Jacksonville slowed us down adding about 2 hours to the trip. We did stop here and there for "pit stops" and gas. As to stopping for the night, I would think that mid South Carolina would be just about right.
And, btw, where is Shelden CT? I only know of Shelton.

You are right it is Shelton. But when asking my DH he said she is in the Seymour area. It is a good thing i don't drive down there I would get us lost for sure!!!!!

Be sure to investigate the stickies at the top of the page. There is some terrific advice "For Those Driving."

When we drive from NE CT we like the alternate (but longer) route of 84-81-77-26-95. It's far more scenic, and an enjoyable drive. We have had terrible experiences with DC traffic even at 3am! Plus stop to enjoy NC rest stops. Next to some in Iowa they are the best we've seen.

If you want a 7 or 8 hour drive the second day, I would recommend Santee SC or south of there. That will make for a long first day particularly if the weather is white . . . from NJ south drivers are not like New Englanders when it comes to getting through the white stuff.

LOL, they are both in the same "valley" area.

I just moved from North Windham. We showed horses in your town for many years. :)
You certainly do take a scenic route!!!!!

I would avoid 95 in NY. There is always construction and since it is a major artery, they do most of the work at night. Coming from VT you might have better luck taking the NY Thruway to the Garden State Parkway to the NJ Turnpike.
