From the Sea to the World - Completed!

After my tour through the shop I decided that I wanted to document the adult/bar district of the Wonder: Route 66. Just before our cruise they had announced the re-do that the Magic would receive which also includes a new concept for the bar area. I really fell in love with Route 66 and was afraid that this would be the only time I would ever be able to see it. So I wanted to document it in all its details. The carpet is really amazing, it is a map of route 66 – you enter the area at Chicago and then follow it all the way to Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean. All along the walls are these “local” retro billboards.

So let’s get started on a morning trip along Route 66:

And now we get to a turn in the walkway. Straight ahead is the Cadillac lounge,

but the route 66 continues to the right:

We will take a detour into the Cadillac Lounge:

The gas pump announced the events that were taking place here:

And then it was time for me to head back to the room to see whether Michael was up – and to start getting ready for our brunch at Palo!

Next: Hoping to Defy Nature

You had a wonderful morning walk and tea.

You did a great job with Route 66. :goodvibes Those are some awesome details.

What a great morning! I really like the Route 66 area...wonder what it will look like after the remodel.

wow, I really like this area - much nicer than the cafe ;) The bar looks really cool! How nice that you could explore it although it was not serving yet.

Love the Cadillac lounge! Yet again I love the whole retro 50's/60's vibe/feel.
I always thought a Route 66 road trip would be fun... If only I could convince someone to go on it with me.

Totally agree that the detail in the Route 66 area was really well done. I loved using the map as the carpet. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. My kids liked walking Route 66 whenever we traveled through there. Oddly, I didn't spend much time in the lounges themselves.

Jumping into this report late! We're on a 5 night Wonder from Miami in March and I'm so excited to finally find a report for the same cruise!

Loving all the details and your perspective! Keep up the good work!

I love the look of the Cadillac Lounge, did you make it there in the evenings at all? It was empty on our cruise with bad lounge music that made us sad, such a great space not to be busier!

Love the carpet and the whole theming of that area.

I was hoping for an update before I leave... but well, at least I can post something to see my ticker :goodvibes

I'm a big fan of the morning photo stroll also, as you know. ::yes:: Thanks for taking us along.

Yes, taking some notes is really helpful and not a lot of work. Like you, I don't write a lot of text, just some short memory-joggers. For our 2008 trip I used a paper notebook, but last year I used the Note app that came with the iPhone. I just made a different "note" for each day.

Wow, the Route 66 area looks really cool. :thumbsup2

Sorry, I meant to try to get one up, but there was just no time! But I promise lots to read when you come back! Enjoy DLP and sprinkle lits of pixie dust on your DH, we want him to come back there in the future!!

Loved the pix of Sixty Six !!That is just fascinating !!! Have to agree with your sister I like ^^ much better than the cafe !!!!

Your photos are fantastic! They make me want to sail on the Wonder before she changes. No idea how I would make that happen, though...but I guess anything is possible-:)

Day 7:
But I love my morning tea so I headed upstairs to the drinks station and got myself a nice hot tea (they have Twinings tea bags just as at the resorts and I love Twinings Earl Grey, thats my standard tea at home).
Nothing better than a leisurely morning to relax and prepare for the day. :goodvibes

This is a little snack shop close to the pool which was open for counter service breakfast during the day it has cold sandwiches:

Any place called Goofy's Galley has a be worth a visit!!! :thumbsup2

This was my chair:

DSC00570.jpg

And this was my view:

DSC00572.jpg
Ah yes.......would have been hard to drag me away from spending lots of time right there!!! :)

Of course in that view picture it is easy to see how you were able to cover so much of the ship during your walking tours........ ;)

And now it is a truly invaluable thing to have. Without them this TR would have only half the details. I let you judge whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. ;)
:scratchin

Of course, we would never know if it came from your notes or you were just making something up that goes with the picture.

On my walk around the ship the two most interesting areas are were you have to cross over from one side to the other:

DSC00573.jpg

DSC00574.jpg
These remind me of the movie Titanic when Rose and Jack were running through the areas of the ship passengers weren't usually allowed. :rotfl2:

I do love all the pictures of the woodwork that you got around the ship!

And then I thought I use the empty morning to check out the shops – once again. This time I went “picture shopping”.
I can see where one could easily go through quite a bit of onboard credits with all of this merchandise!

After my tour through the shop I decided that I wanted to document the adult/bar district of the Wonder: Route 66. Love the Route 66 tour. The theme is such a cool idea! :cool1: The retro billboards and the Cadillac Lounge really add to the theming! Hope you got to spend more time there during the cruise!

We headed up to Palo and were greeted by the manager of the restaurant, Dragan from Croatia. He was very excited to hear that I am from Germany as he speaks fluent German and does not get many chances to practice this skill. He was very nice and immediately led us to a wonderful table at the window. We were then also greeted by our server Sasha, also from Croatia. He was the most wonderful server I ever had. I am not sure how to explain this, but there is a certain attitude of politeness that is part of the culture in the former Empire of Austria and Hungary (which included Croatia when it existed). It is something which for Germans is especially noticeable in Austria as they speak the same language there, but use it in a way that is much more pleasant and less blunt as we do in Germany.

Hey Magdalene, after not having been online for weeks I am finally back for your wonderful trip report (only up to page 12 yet, but will catch up asap! :goodvibes). I just wanted to comment on Dragan's knowledge of German - isn't he perfect? I was amazed! It is true what you said about his Austrian culture, too - I loved how he constantly used the word "Nachtessen" for "dinner", which feels totally Austrian to me.

You had a wonderful morning walk and tea.

You did a great job with Route 66. :goodvibes Those are some awesome details.

It is funny how just walking around on my own I end up with a million pictures - and there there will be long stretches of the day without any pictures...

Route 66 is so great! It was maybe my overall favourite area of the ship!

What a great morning! I really like the Route 66 area...wonder what it will look like after the remodel.

I am really scared that they might change it into a non-descript contemporary looking area. To be honest, I don't thing it needs a lot of updating. However, they could actually make the two other venues (Wavebands and Diversions) even better tied into the theme. I hope they do that!

wow, I really like this area - much nicer than the cafe ;) The bar looks really cool! How nice that you could explore it although it was not serving yet.

The bar was so great! I really liked how open all the public spaces on the ship were!

Love the Cadillac lounge! Yet again I love the whole retro 50's/60's vibe/feel.
I always thought a Route 66 road trip would be fun... If only I could convince someone to go on it with me.

I love it, because it is such a stylish and elegant retro feel! Great design!

If you are interested in Route 66, on the Pixar Cars DVD, there is a great special feature about Route 66. I really liked that a lot, what an interesting history!

Totally agree that the detail in the Route 66 area was really well done. I loved using the map as the carpet. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. My kids liked walking Route 66 whenever we traveled through there. Oddly, I didn't spend much time in the lounges themselves.

And just imagine how much fun you would have with your kids now revisiting all the places you have flown over!!

Jumping into this report late! We're on a 5 night Wonder from Miami in March and I'm so excited to finally find a report for the same cruise!

Loving all the details and your perspective! Keep up the good work!

:welcome: You comment reminds me that I had meant to post at least a link to my report over on the DCL trip reports pages. I was dying to find information about this itinerary before I went and as you said, there is not much out there!

I love the look of the Cadillac Lounge, did you make it there in the evenings at all? It was empty on our cruise with bad lounge music that made us sad, such a great space not to be busier!

Love the carpet and the whole theming of that area.

Not to post a spoiler, but these will not be the only pictures for the Cadillac Lounge for that day... any more info will have to wait for another update!! ;)

The carpet is just so cool!!

Isn't it funny how one can end up with a million pictures if one is without company? :goodvibes

I could not imagine to use my phone for notes, I just hate typing on it!! Even on my new ipad I really don't enjoy typing on it. I might end up buying an external keyboard for it...

Loved the pix of Sixty Six !!That is just fascinating !!! Have to agree with your sister I like ^^ much better than the cafe !!!!

:sad2: All those cafe haters!!! At least you like something of my dear Disney Wonder!! :thumbsup2

Your photos are fantastic! They make me want to sail on the Wonder before she changes. No idea how I would make that happen, though...but I guess anything is possible-:)

Just keep an eye out for restricted rates this winter, I am sure you will be able to pick up a cheapish cruise once the Wonder is back in Miami!! And since she will most likely not change for quite some while, you still have plenty of time. :goodvibes
