For a party of 5 (2A, 3 girls 13, 10, 8) ... walk to DTD for a bus (possible? how long would that take and how early would we have to do this oh wise ones of the DisBoards), or spend the money for a taxi? We are going to use MEARS afterwards to go to Universal and then back to SSR at the end of our long, HOT July day.

Everything else about this quickly planned out trip is figured out (5 night Dream cruise, JetBlue tickets purchase, Limo reserved from MCO to PC, PC to SSR, ME to MCO, ADRs, DVC reservation at SSR) this is stickler and the only thing that made me go ???? But we wanted a character breakfast and had never done this one and SSR doesn't have table service breakfast ... if I can't get it figure out I may just chunk it, eat breakfast in the room and see if I can get an early ADR in Hollywood Studios the next day.

I would suggest a cab. Personally, I would rent a car for a day. Drive to the CR, then drive to US for the day. There are generally some good rates out there for rental cars. You could pick up at Swan/Dolphin and drop off there too. For a 7:00AM ADR, my family would think I was nuts trying to get everyone out the door before 6:00AM for breakfast. You would have to get everyone up at 5:00AM just to get ready!! Yikes, it's suppose to be vacation. Good luck in whatever your decision is!

why don't you just take the 6am character breakfast bus?

It will likely say MK on the bus but just let them know you need to be dropped at Chef Mickey's. I have seen it say Character Breakfast on the bus sign before though.

I switched my ADR to 8am at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. I am still considering the rental car option. We have, in the words of my DH, 5 gazillion Hertz points so renting would be essentially free. But he and DS will be tramping through the African bush while the girls and I (along with my sister) are doing the Disney. I am just never that comfortable driving something place new, especially hot and tired (which I will be after a day at US).

8 a.m. is much more doable via Disney Transport than is 7 a.m. You can't get there easily from DTD, though, because buses don't run that early there.

Just take the bus from SSR to MK, and then the Resort Monorail to GF. Buses start running around 6:30; the Resort Monorail starts at 7. The boat from MK to GF will not be running at that hour, unless the MK is opening at 8 that day.

A 6:45 start should be OK; 6:30 to add a safety margin.

This sounds like a plan. Still holding the taxi option open (if I can get one that will take 5)

Just tell bell services you need a van taxi. Just call down about 30 minutes prior and they will call one for you, though there will probably be plenty waiting.

Buses aren't running that early. Earliest you might find a MK would be around 6:15-6:20, but more likely not starting until 6:30.

7am ADRs are very hard to get to, using Disney transportation. If you are at a resort and heading to another resort for an early ADR, you really are better off using a cab...especially if that ADR is before 7:30. You need to alot about 40 mins, best case scenario, to get from your resort to the ADR...so a 7am at CM's, if not staying at the CR, is almost impossible to get to using WDW transportation.

Changing to an 8am at 1900 Park Fare is a great idea. I actually like this breakfast better than the one at CM's. Depending on how many of you are heading to US/IoA, you may be better off booking the Mears shuttle at $19 pp, r/t. You call them the day before you want to go, tell them where you are being picked up from, and they will give you options for pickup time. Then, you either tell them what time you want to head back to WDW when making the reservation, or you can call them a few hours before you want to leave US/IoA and they will tell you what time to be at the bus stop.

This is what we have decided on ... MK bus, monorail to GF, 1900 PF, Mears to US/IoA and then call a couple of hours before we are ready to leave back to SSR. I just don't want to worry about driving a rental car (but still might look into the option using Hertz points but trying to shove 5 girls worth of clothes into one at PC after a cruise makes me shudder with fear)

Bring the gear so some of you can primp and groom after breakfast. This way the single bathroom doesn't get in your way of getting down to the bus stop for the 6 AM or whatever character bus.

I've been on that 6am bus multiple times and I've seen it many other times. We don't ask for it either at the front desk, it's just there. I'm surprised that no one else has used it? Maybe it came a few mins after 6am and I'm not remembering the exact times for it? We can make a 7am CM ADR on it from SSR.

I would rent a car for 1 day. I think it is enterprise that will pick you up at your room, and drive the car back. 24 hours later (well 23) just drive there and they will take you back. It is not the airport one, There are 2 that will pick you up from your resort, one is at the swan and Dolphin, the other is very close by.

You can save the cost of Mears, and just drive there and pay for parking. Using the rental car there. (Even stop for dinner on the way back. )

1 day rental car as part of a trip can be cost savings and very helpful.
You could either get rental car way early on that day, or the night before and either drop off within 24 hours, pay for additional hours or pay for 2 days and drop it off the following morning.

This past December on the morning we checked out of the Boardwalk Inn was just before 6:30 AM and were walking towards our car, well I saw a bus leaving that was going to the Magic Kingdom. Although I remember on that morning they were having AM Extra Magic Hour at 7:00 AM and the regular opening was at 8:00 AM, so I guess that's the one exception seeing the Magic Kingdom buses before 6:30 AM.
