We will be coming from Disney and figure we would probably stopover in Santee, S.C. first night (only want to drive about 7 hrs first day), can someone recommend another top in Virginia for 2nd day? We usually stop in Fredericksburg VA which i really like and is 5+ hours from home but would like to go a bit further, get past DC where congestion is and find a nice stopover comparable to fredericksburg or place with nice hotels & restaurants on i-95

In all honesty...if you live in NJ and you're looking to get NORTH of DC and out of traffic, you might as well just drive all the way home. You'd be out of Virginia anyway, and into Maryland.

Just getting north of DC puts you in Baltimore...not the best area to consider stopping also because of traffic concerns. To my knowledge, not a whole lot along the line of Fredericksburg north of Baltimore before NJ.

I live 20 minutes north of Philly. Its 3 hours to my house from DC. You could probably get all the way to north Jersey in 5 from DC.

thanks for the info. I guess if we decide to take it slow then we will settle with Fredericksburg. One year had to deal with traffic on a weekend and very very slow up until we pulled over into Fredericksburg (so glad we had a reservation, couldnt see going like that all the way home because at that point we were very tired).

hi
sorry to jump in, but we are trying to plan our stops for our drive down to WDW and were thinking of fredericksburg, so do you mind if I ask how is it there? Is it safe? What hotel did you stay at? was it clean?
Thanks!

Not the OP, but I live in Fburg, so I can answer. Just avoid the Ramada on Route 3 and you should be fine. :) There are several Hilton family hotels in the Central Park shopping area that are pretty new.
