I am finally able to come back to the TR. I am now up to page 170. Back on about page 164 you were talking about Taps. To this day I can not listen to Taps without tearing up.

For one, being an Army retiree, it hits home quite hard anyway. But what makes it hit even harder was back when I was stationed at Fort McPherson, Georgia, and was on funeral detail. I was on the firing squad for the 21-gun salute. We were standing up on a hill looking down over the burial site of this WWII veteran. What tore my heart out was that no one showed up at the grave site. Not one person. There was the flag detail/paul barers and the chaplain ... no friends, no family. He had outlived them all. When Taps was played, every single one of us had tears streaming down our faces (even the big, tough guys) and we went to the grave side after the services to give our respects. We were not normally allowed to do this out of respect for the families. But since he had no one else, our commander said it would be OK.

To this day, Taps brings this memory back and the tears start to come. I am tearing up now, just thinking of him.

Crying....what a touching story. I'm so glad you men were there to pay respects to this honorable man.

Welcome back!

Goodness, it's my 1000th post! It's cool that my 1000th post was in MeMom and Jill's thread because they are the main reason I signed up for the DIS. :rotfl: So i could converse with them. It's been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed meeting new friends here on the DIS and eventually in off the DIS in the WORLD. :grouphug:

I'm in tears too and so very glad there was someone there to pay respects to one who deserved it.

MeMom, thanks for the pics and texts! And..now that I have FB it was nice to see all your uploads. Can't wait to read all about it.

Good morning, friends!

Yesterday we were sitting under the sunshine and palm trees watching Brooklynn, Bella, Carson, and Parker have much fun in the Pop kiddie pool. We got off the plane last night to a cold, wet Tennessee fall night. We were quickly reminded that it is not summer any longer!

We had an awesome time, as we always do. We laughed a lot. We loved spending time with Trent. It was hard to say goodbye, as we will not see him until Christmas.

We were happy to add Saratoga Springs to the list of Disney resorts we have conquered. I texted Wigd one night and told her that we had just walked over to Downtown Disney. That was so nice! We walked back over around ten at night, the girls tapped out in their strollers. It was such a peaceful walk. It was so nice to have plenty of room to put the pack & play and to have room for everyone to sit around when Trent, Tanya, and her niece were with us. All the CM's were so, so nice in the gift shop, food court, and lobby area. Thanks, again, Wigd and Shocker!

We have many pictures and stories to share, but we'll continue to plug along with the summer trip as soon as we get situated back in at home. Even after a short trip it takes a day or two to get caught up. When the summer trip ends, we'll enjoy sharing this trip with you (and re-living it ourselves) throughout the cold, dreary winter. I know the rest of October, November, and December will be packed with activities, so the wait until the March trip should only be torture during January and February. :)

The weather was perfect the entire time we were there. Never a drop of rain, low 80's during the day, 60's in the evenings - so, so nice!

Jill had to go straight back to work, but I am happy to have the rest of the week to catch up on the DIS and real life. I plan to catch up on everyone's reports in the next few days.

Yay! Welcome back MeMom and Jill. I absolutely cannot wait to read more, about both trips. :) Get back into the real world as gently as possible and we'll hear from you soon.

Welcome back to fall y'all! Love the pics we got on FB from Jill. I will have to find you, MeMom. Glad you had a safe and happy journey.
