Ok...some of you might say I'm crazy, but...

we downgraded our upcoming July trip from a Garden room at the Poly, to a Standard View room at Coronado Springs. When I checked my reservation online though, the description read: Limited View.

When making our reservations, we asked only for "no parking lot view" and Casitas, if possible. The only thing we really care about is no parking lot view.

Question: views from these garden view rooms: are they ok? We saved nearly $1,600.00 on the trip, and the pictures I've seen are nice, reviews have been great. Someone, please, reassure me. :)

I've read that limited view can be a corner room with the corner post that blocks some of the view. Not sure how they can tell if you end up in a corner room but most of the casita views are great, fountains, courtyards and the lake.

Online our reservation states limited view, but the actual paper reservation received in the mail states standard room.

We did the same thing downgrading from the Poly to CSR. We had CSR booked then went to the Poly then back to CSR. I am feeling good about it since hopefully the main pool won't be as crowded as the Poly's Volcano pool as I have heard it can be plus there are multiple quite pools too. Also CSR has a hot tub. I am going to miss the monorail, but my feet and legs are sure going to enjoy the hot tub after a long day at the park.

Toy Story: its good to know that we're not the only ones thinking along these lines! We're really excited about the switch too...we've stayed 5x at the Poly and have never tried anything different, and CSR looks wonderful. Our biggest worry is about the transportation, but since I've read that CSR doesn't share buses with any other resort, and its close to MGM and Epcot, we're feeling ok about it.

We're actually feeling that this is "meant to be" since when we made the switch, there were no water view rooms available. We were disappointed, and then worried to see "Limited View" on the online reservation. The CM I spoke to this am told me that this was just a terminology thing, and it meant "garden view."

This morning, my dd got on the WDW website, and water rooms appeared to be available! We called right away and got one. We're very happy about that. I'll definitely post when we return and let you know what we thought!

Happy Disneying!!

I look forward to hear how your trip went. I am glad that you were able to get a waterview room, therefore you don't have to worry.

Have a great trip!!

We're back from our first trip to Coronado Springs Resort. Having stayed at the Poly every other trip we've ever taken, we were a little hesitant to stay at a moderate. We had a great time, and the Coronado is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the photos on these boards.

There were some pros & cons to staying there, I thought, and I'm just going to give my perspective & opinions here...On the positive side: the transportation was amazing! I generally HATE the buses, but at the Coronado the bus service is wonderful. Only once or twice in the whole week did we get on a full bus, and we rarely waited for more than 5 minutes for our bus (I think we waited longer maybe 3x). The ride to MGM / Epcot and Animal Kingdom were really short, and Magic Kingdom wasn't too bad. It was hard to gauge just how long each trip would take because the drivers seemed to use different routes at different times, but all in all this should never be considered a negative to CSR...it was great. Also, like others have posted in the past, if you're staying there, catch the buses at stops other than from El Centro...we were on Bus Stop 2 (behind Casitas 4 & 5), and it was the first pickup in the resort, and the first drop off...perfection!

As for dining at the resort: the Pepper Market is great...lots of variety to please everyone in the family, but I thought it was a little pricey at between 12.00 - 13.00 per entree/plato. Its not exactly counter service. And...there were lots of conventions (dancers, martial arts, and more) so the restaurant really filled up fast...in the late morning the line snaked out of the Pepper Market and around the hall down towards the Convention Center (read: really long line). And there is no other choice on site except the Maya Grill which offered a Breakfast Buffet at 16.95 per adult...none of us could eat that much, so we didn't do that. Often we just waited til we got to the parks and grabbed something there.

The Laguna Bar is pretty nice, sitting right outside and next to the lake. I highly recommend the Pina Coladas there.

We never used the big pool...it was just too packed. But there are lots of quiet pools and though its posted that they close at 10:00pm, but people would be out there until at least midnight every night...which was nice, because there's nothing like a swim after a day at the parks.

The property is beautiful, as beautiful as the Poly, if not more so. They don't pipe in the Disney music along all the walkways like they do at the Poly, and I missed that...though it is piped in by the big pool.

We did have one snag though, and if not for this one thing we'd say it was a perfect alternative to the deluxe: upon our return to the room one evening, we found a pancake sized wet spot in front of our sink...we didn't think much of it, but when we woke up the next morning, the spot was much bigger...we called the front desk to report it, and the woman said she'd contact housekeeping...we hung around for about an hour, then left for the parks...when we returned, the wet spot was the entire vanity area...it was soaked. We called the front desk again, and the woman said she'd send up housekeeping. A guy showed up with a wet vac, and sucked up the water, and we went out again. Upon our return a few hours later, the floor was still soaking. We went down to the front desk in person, explained the problem...again...and were told to go to the room and wait for maintenance...over an hour and a half later, a very nice man named Angel came up and looked over the spot, determining that a pipe was leaking either behind the wall or under the floor. We'd have to be moved. Mind you, we had a magnificent room with a great water view (room #4430 in Casitas 4)...my dh went to the front desk again to arrange for a new room and was given room # 5237 in Casitas 5. This was billed as water view room, but it was not. It is a palm tree view...there is a wide trunked palm tree right smack in front of the room...and a family of heavy cigar smokers were parked on the balcony, too. Dh was not happy, and asked for something, anything, else. He was told that there was nothing else available, sorry. Steaming, but not wanting to upset me or the kids, dh accepted the new room. We packed up, then called Bell Services to come to our room to move our luggage. I sat on hold...no kidding...for over 10 minutes and no one came to the phone. I hung up, tried again, sat on hold for another 5 minutes...before dh imploded, we just decided to move ourselves to the new room. This was not the Disney service we were accustomed to...We didn't expect to be comped anything, or be given anything, we just wanted a comparable room to the one we had.

One thing I did notice, and I don't know if this is true at other resorts or not but cigarette butts were everywhere in the foliage and in these water capture areas along the sides of the buildings. Empty water and soda bottles were tossed into the borders, and wet towels were left on the walkways. After seeing a dirty facecloth on the stairs for 2 days, we finally picked it up and tossed it out. That may happen everywhere, though...

All in all, I'd recommend Coronado Springs to families with older children, or couples. Would I stay there again? I would. It was lovely, and had great transportation. Our burst pipe incident is just one of those things, not likely to happen again.

And thats my two cents...

Beth

Glad to hear about your great experience at CSR! However, I'm sorry to hear about being moved to a "palm tree view" room... :(

Thats strange about the cigar butts and dirtiness!! We've stayed there twice and haven't seen anything like that! :scared1: Maybe its one of the rarities ? Strange tho, did you mention anything to the FD or HM ? I always remeber CSR being very well kept and clean!! weird!! Im glad you enjoyed some extent of your stay!

Cricketmint: no, we didn't mention the cleanliness to the FD or HM...to be honest we felt that it was probably really tough to keep up with so many guests. The convention center was full up, and we were told that the place was at capacity. I imagine its pretty tough to keep up with. And I'm only speaking to the exterior grounds, as our rooms (both) were very clean!

simonkodousek: the palm tree room wasn't so bad...the room itself was exactly the same as our first, only the view wasn't...on the plus side, though, Casitas 5 has some hammocks outside alongside the lagoon, which was pretty nice for our teen son.

We had a terrific time, and I would stay there again. I think that for the price, and the transportation, and the beauty, CSR is a great place.

Why do you recommend it for families with older children? I have reservations in October with DS 4 & DD 8. This is our first trip to WDW and I want to make sure we have a good experience...

Thanks.

I am so looking forward to our return visit to CSR. We were there for 3-days on the first leg of our honeymoon 2 years ago - and because we only had 3 days, we spend most of our time in the parks. We are really looking forward to exploring the resort grounds and pools.

Thank you for your review!

The only reason I say that I (and this could just be me) would recommend it for older kids is for 3 reasons: transportation, size of the resort & the food court. The buses are frequent and were rarely full, but space is tight, and I felt badly for the parents w/ babies, diaper bags and strollers. Also, if you don't time it right, the wait for the bus could be up to 20 minutes. As for the size of the resort, its big. That can mean a lot of walking (though there are resort shuttle carts that you can catch a ride on...we didn't). The food court is nice, but there's one kids' station, and the way the counters are set up can make for some congestion during busy times. Also, with only two restaurants (and one of those is a sit down place) there was frequently a long line to get a table at the Pepper Market. Many little ones would probably adapt just fine, and none of these things would be a problem. There were lots of little kids at the Coronado when we were there, and they seemed fine, but for me: when I traveled with my little kids I just liked lots of options, and as few lines & waits as I could arrange, and as little walking in the hot sun as I could arrange. Keep in mind, too, that I've always gone in July, which is typically very hot, and very busy.

And, of course...I'm only giving my own opinion, and you know what they say about opinions...:goodvibes

I don't know..I don't get everyones love of this hotel...:confused3
I just really hated it..sorry to those who love it, just my opinion....
the pool area was nice, but the convention feel was obvious to me. Everywhere, the pool, the food court, the bar, the lobby, the walkways...
When I was there,
there happened to be a convention going on, which I'm assuming happens a lot, since it is designed to be a convention hotel.....
I think the general areas are really beautiful, but walking through throngs of conventioneers having a party in the common areas at 11pm is not my idea of disney

I thought the food court was really chaotic, and limited...if you don't like type of food...

I like the themeing much more at POR, or POFQ

To each his own, I guess....

Not my cup of tea either but boy Buzz's site makes it look very very nice. I had a run in with the check in people. I speak spanish- although I guess they assumed I didn't(blonde/green eyed) and they were saying some obnoxious things about another guest. And by obnoxious I mean really rude comments. And I called them on it in spanish and reminded them that you never know who is listening to your comments. Unfortunatly for our trip that set the tone of that resort for us. And yep the bell service is my DH's sticking point.- He hates to carry his own bags on vacation- snob that he is:rotfl2:
But for the price relative to the deluxe- I think it is an ok place. DH won't go back but I might if the price was right.
