from paradise pier to gates?

So we were looking at satellite maps and it is not super obvious how do you get from .P.pier to the gates and /or downtown Disney .

From the front of PPH, you can cross Disneyland Drive and walk through GCH to get to the hotel gate for DCA or the moon gate for DtD.

Theres also an exit to the rear of the hotel that goes to the parking structure. There's a walkway that leads to a round-about and heading north of that will get you past DLH and you'll find yourself at the ESPN Zone/Earl of Sandwich end of DtD.

You walk across the street to the GCH. You walk through the GCH to either DTD or to DCA. If you are going through the regular park gates then you need to walk through DTD. It is actually closer than walking from the DLH.

When we stayed we never went through the GC the DCA entrance was closed then so we never bothered. I did enjoy the walk through DTD and didn't feel like it was that long,

We walked PPH to the Esplanade with 2 teen girls and it was about 10 minutes from leaving PPH to the security tables.

If you don't want to walk that far you can catch the Monorail in DTD and get off in Tomorrowland.

It's not that long but it is longer.

First you have to want to be in tomorrowland. Never do that when hitting fantasyland for early entry hours, I promise. Second, the monorail has to be open. Half the time we tried it the monorail was closed.
