From Alaska to the World - MAW trip Jan. 2008

OK- so it didn't really take me 6 months to do all of the laundry and get caught up :rotfl2: I won't make excuses but just glad to be back here and share our trip. I kept a detailed journal of the trip and will rely in that for the little things I would have forgotten by now:) .

Even if you didn't have a detailed journal, you could just make some of it up. we would never know! :rotfl2:

We had planned to leave our home with plenty of time to arrive and have a stressfree check-in. Well, my DH was STILL packing when I had all 3 boys and myself packed and in the car waiting! He finally came out with what should have been plenty of time, EXCEPT... we stopped at the neighbors to leave our key. They have a very curvy driveway and my DH backed right off the edge and into a huge bank of snow. I didn't go into immediate panic, I just reminded myself that the Anchorage airport is not that big and hopefully check-in will go very quickly. Again, fate was on our side because our neighbor has a large truck with a winch on it and had us out of the ditch within about 10 minutes. I was so ready to leave the cold temps and snow banks behind!!

Wow, what a start! I hope that it goes up-hill from here.

I may be doing some of that too!!! I got out my journal this morning and it quits at day 4 of a nine day trip. Oops!! I'll just have to rely on my aging and pregnant brain to carry this off. Yikes :scared1:

Congrats on the new(surprise!) baby !

Thanks!! We are very excited about the upcoming birth. After the big surprise we quickly realized how much we were really wanting another baby and are at a good point in our life to expand the family a little. But this is it! :rotfl: After 3 boys we are expecting a daughter this time and it just adds to our joy! :cloud9:

SO.... our "short" nap took 4 hours but it was really needed sleep. The little boys, dh and I headed out to explore Give Kids the World. Our oldest, Alex refused to budge so we left him behind. We started at the castle of Miracles but Marek is very timid and the place sort of freaked him out a bit. It is a replica of an old castle that has rooms inside for the kids to enjoy playing and has a tree built into it that snores when you walk past the outside. This was way too freaky for Marek and for several days we had to go way around the tree, finally by mid week he got "brave" and was able to walk past it as long as his ears were covered.

So we moved on from the castle and discovered another building with trains and that was way cool! There is nothing that Marek loves more than trains (well, maybe me :lovestruc ) and they have a huge track set up that allows the kids to interact with the set. Then going around the outside of the bldg. is a track with a small train that a volunteer can provide rides to anyone interested. That was a huge hit and after the 3rd time around I finally convinced Marek that we needed some lunch. Well, it may not have been the mention of lunch but rather the words ice cream that enticed him away. So off to the ice cream parlor we went where we were able to order soy ice cream for the first time in Marek's life. He was so excited, this is the one thing that he still talks about as his favorite part of the whole trip. He has never had ice cream outside of our home because I don't think there is anyone in Alaska that offers it (maybe this doesn't surprise anyone but there are not a lot of ice cream shops in Alaska).

We returned to the villa to pick up our very cranky tween, who was angry that we left him behind even though he wouldn't move when we tried. :rolleyes1 So now it was Mama time. We got in our van and headed to TARGET!! Yup, my favorite store and we have none in Alaska ( we will starting in Octorber though:banana: ) So I got my Target fix and we purchased some bevarages and food items for Marek. GKTW had a 1/2 gallon of milk, donuts, and some pop when we arrived but most of that was consumed early on. So for dinner we picked up pizza from our favorite pizza spot, Giordano's (YUM!!) and what a treat to find it in Orlando. We returned to our villa so we could feed Marek ( he can't eat pizza) and man did we all feel a little on top of the world when we went to bed that night. It did take a few hrs for me to settle down and it was after midnight before I actually fell asleep but the boys all slept great after a turn in the jacuzzi tub off of the kids room.

I forced myself up and got the kids moving around 9:30am ( remember it was only 5:30am in Alaska). We were out the door in a record 30 minutes. I took the boys over the the Gingerbread house (Resturant at GKTW) for a bowl of cereal and we were back at the villa and in the car by 10:30am. It was Seaworld day!! I choose this park to do first because I thought we would still be a little jet lagged and it was the one we were looking least forward to and would be easy to leave if we got too tired. Boy was I wrong. We really enjoyed the park a lot. We had premium parking with our special pass and only had to walk a very short distance to the entrance! It took us a while to get into the swing of things, like stopping for the shows and not just cruising past stuff because it looked crowded. We took advantage of the free double stroller as we did at all of the parks but I think this was an area that may have been a mistake for us. The kids hated being in a stroller and I spent a lot of time pushing around an empty stroller or a stroller full of mad little boys. I'm not sure what a good compromise would have been because there were times we did need it but 80-90% of the time we didn't. Perphaps just an inexpensive fold up stroller would have done OK for us.

There were several highlights at Seaworld but perhaps the coolest was a chance encounter with Shamu as we came around a secluded part of the park. His handler was moving him into a non-public area but saw our passes and brought him over to us without us saying word. The kids really got a kick out of their first character meeting and it brought a lot of smiles to all us.
We also enjoyed our lunch at the Budwieser Resturant and my husband really enjoyed the free samples of beer :goodvibes There was a great street act that had Marek laughing so hard that others around us were laughing at his laugh. It was one of those great belly laughters that you know comes from deep within of pure enjoyment. Before leaving the park Marek purchased a stuffed Shamu to remind him of the Believe show that we all loved.

After the we left the park we met up with my brother and Jen (his girlfriend of 18 years). We had not seen them in a year and half. My brother was Marek's living donor for his liver transplant and the two of them have a really cool bond obviously. So it was pretty cool to be reunited with them. We had dinner down the road from Give Kids the World at a mexican resturant called Vallatora's. The food was good and music was fun. We ended the day back at GKTW with a walk in the rain to the ice cream parlor. There are talking trash cans outside of the parlor and the kids, especially the youngest, Scotty, just loved these. He couldn't find enough trash to put in them and several times we found him "feeding" it things we needed!! After stuffing the talking trash cans and our own bellies it was time for bed and preparing for our first Disney Park!!! .....

Side note- Sorry there are no pictures here. We borrowed a camera from GKTW and when we recieved our disk at the end of the trip we had someone elses disk and we lost all of our own pictures :-(.

WOW ! A baby girl ! I bet that was a wonderful surprise after 3 boys .Sorry to hear about your pics .Did you contact GKTW to see if they were returned ?
