From Alaska to the World - MAW trip Jan. 2008

I can feel the excitement as we approach our 1 month mark. It still seems so far off and yet the time is going really fast, especially with the holiday's. My brother and SIL did get their tickets last week  and will be coming and going on the same days. I had a great talk with my brother (the non planner) and told him I knew I was obsessed with planning and I would work at not driving him crazy but that I did need some game plan from him. I think we will be spending most of the time together (which is awesome- he is A LOT of fun and my kids adore him). His friend, the AK CM is going to have a lot of time off and will be with us as well and I'm sure she will be an awesome guide for us.

So we have our flight plan, car rental, lodging and a basic schedule. I have purchased a Pal Mickey, pins and lanyards for trading and I have almost all of the t-shirts made. I don't know what else I need to be doing. I have a lot of our clothes and other odds and ends packed. I know that is WAY early and honestly a lot of them have been packed for almost 3 months. I didn't want to have to dig through the storage boxes for summer clothes so I just put them right into the suitcases at the send of summer, which is August around here.

I do want to organize my binder that I started months ago and then abandoned. I have lots of pages printed out for the kids to do activities on the flight and I am thinking I need to bind those but these won't take long to do. I guess I should be grateful that I don't have a lot to do but I sort of want something to keep my busy besides the every day things. Perhaps I should focus on Christmas since that comes first! :santa:

My youngest, Tigger (scotty-2) has a new habit. He will come up to me and tap me on the shoulder or arm to get my attention, as if he has something really urgent to tell me. When I ask him what he needs he smiles and says "I'm going to Disney World!" and cracks himself up. It's pretty cute. The kids are really excited but I am surprised that they aren't asking me when we are going. They seem to understand it isn't for a little longer. I did tell them (months ago) that it wouldn't be until after Christmas, so maybe after Christmas I will get daily question :) .

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!

I can feel the excitement in the air!!!! Christmas and then Disney...oh what a life!!! :lmao: Your little one cracked me up too!! That is sooo cute!! It is awesome that your family is joining you, it will make it so much more special that they get to share this journey with you. I'm so glad that DH's mom went with us. It was a once in a lifetime trip for her. I think you are more than ready. There is only so much you can do and then you just have to let the rest fall into place!

Happy Holidays!! :santa:

I love MAW trip reports. They make me cry every time!!!!!!!!! Even cooler that I know the mom in it. Jill and I went to HS together, and she figured it out and PM'd me. How cool is that??????? :dance3:

My youngest Lily has food allergies. Milk and eggs. I think we took 3 trips to WDW during the hight of her problems, and they were wonderful about them. Because I was breast feeding her I could not have any either so I ate dairy and egg free too. Sit down was fine, counter service was do-able, but snacks were difficult. Bring your own just to be sure. We could not find anything but a dry tasteless pretzels in WS Epcot to eat that didn't have egg or dairy in it. Thank goodness she has mostly outgrown them (but still doesn't actually eat or drink any milk, just minor amount in things.)

Looking forward to hearing more about it. :thumbsup2

Both Lily and Anna used to do the same thing about that age. Lily will still do it. Sadly we have 5 months until our next trip, but 5 months is better then a year so I will take what I can get.

We just watched the new travel channel Samantha Brown Christmas WDW special and I so want to see the lights on the castle and go right now.

hahaha...my mom and I did the same thing your son does! We would be like 'OMG GUESS WHAT?! oh... i'm going to disney world... lol'

1 month and 1 day :cool1: I tried telling the family we were at our 1 month count down this morning but my DH corrected me and added the day- I don't think you should have to count the day you go or the the day your counting from. :rotfl:

So I broke down and decided to spoil my brats even more. I held out until this past week and then headed over to Walmart to pick out a Gameboy DS Lite for Owl. I had decided that he already had plenty of gifts and I didn't need to add this item.... BUT then I got to thinking about our long flights and I realized how invaluable that hand held, easy to pack, little gem just might be. If it can provide an hour of sanity for me on that airplane then it will be worth every dollar. Now if I can just find something to entertain the munchkins- oh yes, maybe portable DVD players. I did order up a bunch of travel books for kids- you know the kind with mazes and crosswords. There too old for Tigger but what am I worried about my sweet little    will be sleeping the whole time anyway :rotfl:
I have been obsessing with Christmas so it has reduced the disney obsession temporarily. I invited a neighbor for dinner and some how this has escalated into 30 people coming for dessert! :rotfl2: In our small community here most of the neighbors do not have family in the state and we have all become each others families for holiday's, birthday parties etc... My DH and I are both interverts, so having a large group in our home is a little exhausting but at the same time it is nice to have something to look forward to. It really feels like a special day when you can share it. :santa:
I'll end with a our Christmas Card picture of the boys.

I do need to just let things happen and I know it will all work out. Thanks!

It is so fun getting re-aquianted through the Disboards, especially since we live more than 3000 miles apart now! I recorded the Samantha Brown show and have watched twice already  I wonder if they take the decorations down right after the new year or if we will still get to see some. Anyone know?

hahaha...my mom and I did the same thing your son does! We would be like 'OMG GUESS WHAT?! oh... i'm going to disney world... lol'
It is pretty funny and I love that he is as excited as I am. I am just wondering what he will focus on after the trip! He NEVER misses a chance to tell everyone we see that we are going to Disney world, usually people are pretty nice about it but sometimes they just give him this blank stare :sad2: Those people need a trip to WDW

WOW only one more month to go!!:cool1: I'm sure you're all really excited, but with the holidays only weeks ago and New Years right after that I'm sure this month is just going to zoom by for you all.

Hopefully I can get my first installment of our trip posted before you leave. I can never find the time these days to do these things and with the holiday's I'm way... behind as it is. I was also wondering if you get tell me how to add pictures to posts. I would be ever so thankful:goodvibes and maybe, just maybe I can get that frist report down!!!:rotfl:

Your christmas pictures of your boys is just adorable, heck your kids are just so adorable!!

How is your final planning going? Do you have any questions you have not thought to ask yet? Please let me know.

Bill- thanks for asking! I do have some questions if you wouldn't mind giving me some advice.

1. How difficult was the time change for your family? Did you find that you got to the parks later or did you all adjust with ease?

2. Did you ride the train at MK? If so, were you able to pick up a stroller on different stops?

I think I will go back and re-read your TR and then come back with my other questions, as you may have covered them and I just have forgotten-

Thanks!

What a special day we had! The boys were spoiled as usual but seem to appreciate all of their gifts. We had a nice dinner with our neighbors and then were joined by about 25 other neighbors for dessert in the evening. It was a nice ending to a nice day. I was really relieved when the guest began to exit and was ready to push the last one out the door though :rotfl: I like a gathering but not for long. I guess I am really not all that social when I think about it. I was pretty exhausted, so when they all left and I got the kids (including my dh) to bed, I snuck back downstairs and sat in my favorite chair and began the "real" planning of the trip!!! :cool1:
I got the 2008 passporter just before Christmas and hadn't really had time to read it, oh I was in heaven. I started putting check marks next to the rides and show's I think the kids will enjoy and putting special notes by some. I am thinking tonight I will sit down with park schedules, which I KNOW I printed out months ago but can't find now :confused3 , so after re-printing I will begin adjusting the schedule to reflect what I think will be the most realistic plan with all of my newly aquired knowledge.
Right now my latest concerns are about transporting car seats, stroller and limiting what I pack. It feels like we will have a lot to carry and I am all for having a light load. :headache: I know those are just little details that I can work out but they are enough that I still get a little stressed.
On a cute note I bought Eeyore a Mickey clock for Christmas (he can't tell time yet but it was too cute!) and at bed time he looked at the clock and very seriously asked me if the clock said that it was time to go to Disney World yet. I wish :rotfl:
The kids all have a cold and I can feel it lurking in my head too but my plan is to have it now and we will have plenty of time to get well before the trip. Keeping my fingers crossed that this plan works.
Hope you all had a special Christmas and thanks for reading. Some days I feel more animated and entertaining but I am pretty much a stick to the facts kind of gal and not so good at the flowery stuff that make the fun TR's... well, fun!

Sounds like ya'll had a good time!
I love the clock story!

How well I am acquainted with all the waiting for the trip!! It feels like it just won't get here and then boom it's here and you are in it!!

Girl you are doing a GREAT job with this and I can't WAIT for your TR!!! You will do great! I am not flowery either i just write it just how I remember it!!

Here's to all your colds doing their thing QUICKLY and leaving VERY SOON!!!!!

Yay to the passporter!!!:goodvibes I didn't have one but they look GREAT!!

Just plan within your plan to be O.K. with changes to the plan!!!:rotfl:

It has been a very rough two weeks in our home with lots of illness  and on Friday I thought we were going to have to cancel/change our dates  BUT things are looking up. My boys have been healthy all fall and that is pretty rare with my 3 boys, especially with Eeyore (supressed immune system) in pre-K now but it all hit us at once just after the break started. I kept telling myself it's OK, we've got time, better now than in a few weeks but when the illnesses continued and the diagnosis got more serious I was definately nervous. I think I am starting to breath a sigh of relief after a very tense weekend of watching Eeyore to see if he had to be admitted for IV meds. He looked great tonight and I am convinced with the antibiotic and other meds he will in great shape in time for the trip. Fingers crossed and on my knees praying though.

For a few days I stopped planning and prepping for the trip, I think I felt like it would be bad luck to just assume we were going. Tonight I am back in full swing of things. I made the kids activity books for the airplane ride and have started their autograph books. The "guest" room is covered in luggage, clothes and all the items we are taking but don't need still. This week I need to get out there and get some shoes for my oldest so he has at least a few days to break them in (shouldn't take long for a 10 year old boy ;) ). I need to get my new shoes on my feet and get my feet on the treadmill too. :guilty: Tomorrow I will finish up the t-shirts (I think I only have 1 left).

I did check the weather and found a site that would give a 15 day forecast! I have no idea how reliable it is but the weather looks warm but could have some rain :scared1: . If there is only a slight chance of rain it will pour while I am there. I have a history of rain on every important day(s) in my life including prom, HS and college graduation, out-door graduation party, wedding and most of my son's outdoor b-day parties etc. So I am pretty use to the whole rain thing but I would love for that tradition to end and just see lot's of sun shine in "Sunny Florida". At this point I am just so excited to be going that it can rain cats and dogs and we will have a blast. After all I can shop in the rain! :rotfl: Oh, that's right this is my son's Make a Wish Trip not mine  . If I get my projects done tomorrow I'll post some pics.

Friday is our Make A Wish going away party. We will be having it at our house per my request since it's easier with the food allergies and germs etc. That will be fun!

10 days.....woohoo!!!!!!!! :cool1: How exciting!!! Time sure did fly by over the holidays! It sounds like you have everything planned out and things will go great. I wish we would have had a send off party, but no biggie. Have fun with yours!!!!!!! My goal is this week to finish my TR!!! Oy!! I was going to try and have it done before the Holidays...obviously that didn't happen! :rotfl2: By the way...you are doing fine on your TR!! :goodvibes

Hi, just found your PTR...sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned. Is the daily schedule you posted in Dec still the plan? If you would like any tips for Sea World let me know...I've been 3 times and the most recent was last January. Have you been in contact with GKTW about your son's special food needs so they can shop for him before you get there?

MRYPPNS

WOW only 9 more days before you leave!!! :cool1: :woohoo:

We are all really excited for you, as we know you are going to have the time of your life!!!

GKTW is an amazing place - It's like being in a fairy tale book. Just imagine walking around while your listening to the music playing in the background, and watching little kids running with joy to the ice-cream palace.
The castle of Miracles has many drawers and cupboards that all make sounds when you pull on them and a wishing well that splashes when you drop pennies in.

The pilliow machine is cool and each of your boys has to make one. It doesn't matter the age either way they will find it fun. Mylah my dd thought it was so cute. Although she was probably older than the girl running it --it was still a good time. The pilliows will also come in handy on the way home on the plane when everyone's tired and needs something to put their head on:goodvibes There was also a really cool slide that looked like a part of a cave. Although we were all too old to try it the young ones would really enjoy.

The carousel was something else. Although we only rode it once....(we wanted to say we tried everything.) It was a good time. Mylah and my son were too old for the carousel 16 and 18 but it would be a hoot for young ones and often in the TR's you hear about children riding it 5 or 6 times in a row!!!

Overall the whole place was magical. I could go into so many details about everything they had for the families and for the children. I don't think you will be able to contain yourself from smiling when you walk into the village steet!:)

If you get a chance I highly recommend you stay at the village one day and just lougne around by the pool, eat ice-cream, play dino putt putt, order a pizza, play some arcades and just have a good old time. We did this on our last day and it was the perfect ending to our vacation!!!

You and your family will have the time of your life and I look forward to hearing about it when you return!!! We are all excited for you and these last 9 days are going to zoom right by. Make sure to savour every moment and take lots of pictures I can tell you right now this is going to be a trip of a life time and one you won't want to forget!!!

Bon Voyage eeyore and family!!! (although I know you don't leave for another 9 days I thought I would make it here early!!;) )

I hope that you and your family have a great trip. I wish I was going. I haven't read all the posts but I am going to go, from what I read though you have done an awsome job planning. I am so excited to see another Alaskan on here.
I live in Anchorage and took my sons on their first trip to Disneyworld last March. We had a great time. We flew a red eye out of Anchorage and that was the best thing for us, especially with the time change. Since we got to Disney late in the afternoon, they were able to play in the pool and relax, and I tried to get them to bed early. I think that I had a harder time with the four hours ahead than my boys. It was harder on them when we came back to Anchorage with the time change, and we weren't able to fly out in the evening so they were on planes all day long (the only thing that saved us was a portable dvd player).

And if you haven't been to Anchorage in a while, they have finally started to build the Target. I can't wait!!!!
Have a great trip and can't wait to read more.

When I saw someone had left a message I knew it had to be a fellow Alaskan! No one else is up at this hour :rotfl: So glad to hear that flying the red eye was a good thing. That was my hope and I am still keeping my fingers crossed. We could have done Disneyland a lot easier but the thrill of going to the World and the other great parks was enough to make the flight worth it. I know there must be many brave mom's and dad's that do it but yikes :scared1: .
I don't get into Anchorage a lot in the winter but my dh commutes to the airport 4 days a week so he keeps me up to date. I did get a chance to hit the new Old Navy just before Christmas  The Target out here in the Valley is really coming along too. I can't wait!!! I will be spending a good part of my time in FL visiting Target

Last night Make A Wish had a going away party for Eeyore and presented us with all of our travel information. It was a small gathering (13 people) at our house with pizza, cake and ice cream. I made Eeyore's special milk and egg free banana chocolate cake. He loves that :lovestruc. It was fun getting the information and everyone was so nice to Eeyore. The MAW volunteers brought 2 giant Mickey and Pooh balloons and a really cute cake with mickey, goofy and minnie toys on top. Although he didn't get to eat that cake he loved the way it was decorated and had fun with toys.

We got an unexpected phone call yesterday from dh's cousin in MI to share with us their trip to Disney on a Make A Wish trip also. We didn't know that there had been any other family members that had stayed at Give Kids the World and it was great talking to him and hearing about their awesome time. Everyone is so excited for us and it makes it even more special. I guess it's because our family and friends know that our life, especially Eeyore's, has had some challenges and he really does deserve to have this special time.

My only negative point in the past few days was when I emailed my brother the weather report for our stay (it looks great!) and thought he would be really excited too but instead emails me back that I better calm down before this trip or I am going to have a heart attack. It hurt my feelings because why not be excited?! I hope he doesn't end up being a downer on our trip. I have already made it clear that this is Eeyore's MAW trip and they were free to do anything they wanted but my focus was 100% on the kids having a good time. And if I am overly excited  :cool1: (is that possible???) then it just means I know how to have a good time!! :rotfl:
So today is :laundy: and packing. I have a lot of stuff gathered but not organized into suitcases yet. I made a lot of long sleeve t-shirts thinking it would be 50's-60's and now the weather is showing 70's all week so I will need to add some more short sleeve T's and just throw in some sweatshirts. We'll just have to wear the long sleeve's that I made when we get back. There is plenty of long sleeve weather here! (like almost the whole year  ) Yesterday was -3. 5 days until I am warm!!

Jill I am so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:thumbsup2 :cool1: You are great with the updates and pictures!

You might need the long sleeve shirts for at night. We got cold at night last January when we were there.
