"Fringe" - worth it?

I hate to be all "If you liked X-Files, you'll looooove Fringe" but it's so true! They're somewhat similar in that some of the shows are "monster of the week" and some have more "mythology" to them (lately most of the episodes have been the latter). It's a nice mix. Plus, the writing is fantastic; a lot of the plotlines of season 2 or even season 1 have made an appearance or reference in season 3. That's really smart.

Both. And to me, the mythology parts are actually interesting, whereas with X-Files I thought it slowed everything down, especially toward the end.

Is it more like the standalone episodes of the X-Files or the mythology episodes of the X-Files?

I think Season 1 and the first part of Season 2 were more like the standalon episodes of the X-Files, but even during that time you had a connecting thread the relates to the mythology of Fringe that they really started to explore last in Season 2 and throughout Season 3.

To me Season 3 has been wonderful and the actors have done an exceptional job this season, especially Anna Torv(Olivia) and John Noble(Walter).

DH, DS23, and I LOVE Fringe, and I know a lot of other people who are fans, too. Fringe just got renewed for Season 4, so it'll be back in the fall! :thumbsup2

DH will be glad to hear that! For awhile (according to Entertainment Weekly), we thought it might be cancelled.

Right now we have about 3 weeks to catch up on and I can't wait to find out what's been happening!

I had been reading that, too!! Fortunately, it made for another season. :thumbsup2

Last night was a repeat episode, so we re-watched last week's episode. At the end it said that the next new episode will be April 15th, and that there are only 4 new episodes left in this season. It's good to know that it'll be back in the fall. :cool2:

Well, I hope it is as good as everyone says it is. :thumbsup2

It's even better! Words cannot describe how great everything about it was- the stories, the acting, the sets, even the background music. I cried so hard when it ended and felt like a major important part of my life had ended, as pathetic as that sounds, LOL. I loved each one of the characters so much.

the next new episode will be April 15th,
An episode entitled LSD. :rolleyes1
and that there are only 4 new episodes left in this season.
April 22, April 29, and the season finale on May 6.

And that's pretty strange, if you ask me. They're running reruns of Kitchen Nightmares in Fringe's slot, on May 13 and May 20. Unless those reruns do substantially better than new episodes of Fringe (which is a big possibility), it would make more sense to hold the return of Fringe until April 29, the beginning of May Sweeps, and then run new episodes in that slot throughout the sweeps period. :confused3

I'm glad I ran across this thread, I too have been looking to fill my "Lost" void. I tried with The Event, but I missed several episodes and have to get caught up. Its okay but reminds me of the new "V". speaking of which, will that be back? I haven't seen it it quite a while. Bicker?

'V's season finale was a few weeks ago.

Will it be back in the fall?

My wife and I both enjoy Fringe. I was really never a X-Files or LOST fan but I like this show.

Thanks! At least now I know we don't have 4 ep's to watch. Our DVR is set to record only new episodes.

I just watched the Apr. 29 episode. What did that memorial stone (that Peter saw after he woke up in the street of the alternate universe) say? Something to do with the Twin Towers, but it looked like the date was Sept.11, 1991?? Was so dark, could not read it very well. Then it said the memorial was dedicated Sept. 11, 20??. Could not read it!!

I'm pretty sure it said "2021" because I backed it up to see it again. I think it was the dedication stone for "The Freedom Tower" that's currently under construction at ground zero which you could see when they pulled back on the camera view.
