Frieze or Berber?

They sell Door Corners at Paint Stores (Sherwin Williams around here), you can stand up your doors, by nailing these in the tops of your doors, they almost look like dominos when your done. This way you can stand them in the middle of the room while you paint. I think they are around $20 for 4 corners, which attach 2 doors together.
I hope that makes sense, it was rather hard to explain without showing you these little wonders! lol

Had berber up until last year in our family room. Replaced it with Frieze and have been sooo happy ever since. With 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 kids, eventually it just became to embedded with dirt to do anything about. And we had snags. And it just didn't have that comfy feel. We have gotten many compliments on our Frieze, and we plan to do the bedrooms in it, as well. Good luck!

We just had new carpet put in in July. I too looked at the frieze but the fibers were so far apart, even on the high quality ones, I didn't like it. DH didn't like it at all. We replaced 11 yr old berber. It was overdue by about 2 years to be replaced, maybe more. It was really nice the first 8 yrs or so but when it starts to wear, it really looks bad. Another thing about berber is the seams. No matter what they do to them you will eventually get fuzzy wear areas where the fibers break down. I guess then now use a liquid glue on the edges but then you would have a ridge I guess.

I had a few runs which were mostly my fault from not getting to trim it fast enough. I can thank the pets for playing with the yarn.

We decided on a cut pile and I like it okay. What I really liked about my berber was the little flecks of jewel tones mixed in with the neutral background. It wasn't easy to see them but it hid a lot of stuff. This new carpet has gradients of tan. I guess I just have to get used to it. It is a lot softer on the feet than berber.

I had frieze at my old house and loved it so much I put it in when we built our new house. I just love ours.....it is a neutral tan color and has little flecks of color in it. It hides so much, is soft and looks great 4 years later.
My family room on the other hand is an upgraded pile and looks TERRIBLE. I absolutely hate it and can't wait to replace it.

My mom's house is 3 years old and they have berber and HATE it. She is going to replace it within the next year or so.

We replaced most of the carpet in our current home a year ago with a frieze and love it. The carpet guy talked us into it after talking to us a little at the store and we're glad he did.

Joke:

What is a penguins favorite type of carpet? Berrr-berrrrr. :)

Thanks for the input. I was concerned that frieze may be "fadish" but I guess not. I do like the way it looks. Thanks for the input re berber. We put it in the den and I am not thrilled with the way it is wearing and its not a high traffic area. Its okay, not what I expected.

We had berber in one of our houses and I loved it. it wore like iron and looked great. However, it does run very easily....any little snags and the vac catches it...the carpet will run like crazy. I would cut little snags as close to the mat as possible to avoid a snag. I like the Frieze but as you said...I am afraid it will be "dated" in a few yrs, just like the beautiful country blue carpet that we had prior to the berber.
