FRIENDS, PHOTOGRAPHS, and Birthday FUN! 3/3 30 Day Photo Challenge Day 21

We need to bump this thing up and get back to planning! Ok, ok, I know we already planned out every single meal, but still! :lmao:

I'm thinking that staying at a mod (POFQ or POR?) the whole time instead of the split might be better. More money for other stuff?? I'm not sure that the cost of a Deluxe is worth it, I don't want to feel like we're paying too much for just added convenience of the monorail for a day or two...

Who's the pusher now??? :p

Honestly, I'd love to have something to plan but just can't seem to be motivated to plan any more (we have our resort, meals and days all done!) for a trip that's so far out...

I bet you could find some Disney stuff on PINTREST, then you would be in the mood! :lmao:

So we need resort input/opinions! Hope & I have decided to stay at a MOD b/c we can get more bang for our buck, but we can't decide!

I'm torn between POFQ and CS and I think POR is a contender as well! For the POR resorts, it's the pull of that boat to DTD but CS has a nicer decor and resort-y feel to it for a bday trip. What say you?!?!?

I'm also concerned b/c after running a 1/2 marathon, will I want to walk so much at Coronado? POFQ is one of the smallest resorts, from what I've seen, so less walking? :confused3

But Coronado is so pretty! Wah!!!!!

BTW Hope, you need to go give my PTR for January some love. I feel like I'm talking to myself over there.

AND, I just went to put UPDATE/help us choose in the thread title and realized that you have total control here over this PTR. :rolleyes1

AND I know that you get an email everytime someone posts here, so instead of emailing you directly, I figure I'll just keep posting here until I get you DISing again! It's only a little over a year now, get with it! ;)

THIS is why I don't feel the least bit guilty about you wasting one puny little day on pinterest!

Oh and after looking at our rough outline, we had dinner scheduled TWICE at DTD (via boat) our first and 2nd nights! RFC & Wolfgang Puck.

I wonder how long buses to the parks take? And the boat ride is at least 20 minutes (plus waiting for the boat) as well. I wonder how that compares with times from CS?

From the FAQ thread for POR:

What transportation options are there?

Port Orleans Riverside features four bus stops with free Disney bus transportation to all of the Disney theme parks, water parks and the Downtown Disney area. Buses run at least every 10-20 minutes from one hour before park opening until 1.5 hours after each park closes. Note: you cannot get to the other resort hotels very easily and will need to plan enough time to change at a theme park or at Downtown Disney.

The bus service is the subject of some controversy as this is a large resort and sometimes the bus service is shared with French Quarter (which often gets the first pickup on the route). Even though separate services are run at peak times, and almost always for the Magic Kingdom, if you’re trying to get back from a park (along with the rest of the masses) after a fireworks show, you may experience a lengthy wait.

There are four bus stops at Riverside, so if you board at the first one (usually the South Depot, next to the main lobby building) then you may have to go round the other three stops before the bus actually departs for its final destination. Epcot is the closest resort (usually less than 10 minutes from leaving the resort), then Studios, Magic Kingdom and finally Animal Kingdom (sharing its service with Blizzard Beach) which can take up to 20-25 minutes.

If you’re travelling to Downtown Disney, a much more relaxing and romantic option is the 20-minute free water taxi service which runs along the Sassagoula River every 10-20 minutes from 10am to 11pm. Outside of these hours you’ll need to take the bus to get to or from Downtown Disney, and during the day that bus also serves Typhoon Lagoon.

From the FAQ thread for POFQ:

What transportation options are there?

Port Orleans French Quarter features a single bus stop right outside the main lobby area with free Disney bus transportation to all of the Disney theme parks, water parks and the Downtown Disney area. Buses run at least every 10-20 minutes from one hour before park opening until 1.5 hours after each park closes. Note: you cannot get to the other resort hotels very easily and will need to plan enough time to change at a theme park or at Downtown Disney.

The bus service is sometimes shared with Riverside, but the French Quarter stop is normally the first pick-up and the first drop-off, which makes for great bus access with less chance of having to stand. Separate services for the two resorts usually run at peak times, and the Magic Kingdom almost always has separate buses.

If you’re travelling to Downtown Disney, a much more relaxing and romantic option is the 15-minute free water taxi service which runs along the Sassagoula River every 10-20 minutes from 10:10am to 11pm. Outside of these hours you’ll need to take the bus to get to or from Downtown Disney, and during the day that bus also serves Typhoon Lagoon.

The CSR FAQ thread doesn't have a nice little write up like this, only times on the buses. Honestly, no bus rides themselves are horribly long so it's the waits, sharing, stops, etc. that concern me most. Looking at the transportation info I think POFQ is our best option. I'm going to go scour the transportation board though and see if I can find more info.

This is a family board so I'll just say, "Gee whiz, you sure did!" :p

"AND..." you are hilarious, Karen! You and Hope are too cute! I agree with you about CS having the best decor of the moderates. When we stayed there we didn't use Disney transportation since we had our car, so I can't comment on that. POFQ looks beautiful, though, and it looks like it has the most convenient transportation of the three resorts you guys are considering.

Hope, she got you!

She is quite masterful.

Ahhhh, I'm quite content this morning, I can go off and clean the house for my arriving guests tomorrow, knowing that Hope is now SCOURING the DIS, reading reviews, calculating transportation times and Ooooh, maybe read some dining reviews and check on a new ADR to replace Garden Grill since we've nixed that! Yep...I'm pretty pleased with myself! :rolleyes1

Well, you better get over here and clean my house when you're done since APPARENTLY I'm not going to get anything done today... :surfweb:

Now really......how important is a clean house....I mean it's only going to get messed up again, so why bother? The Dis is WAY MORE IMPORTANT!!! :lmao:

So, I've stayed at both POR and POFQ and I must admit I liked POFQ alot more. It's smaller and a very short walk around the whole resort. Food court is great and I loved the pool!!! I also loved the water taxi to DTD and I'm going to miss that the most this time around as we are staying at CBR. The only reason I'm staying away from CS is the fact that it's a "convention" resort and I just don't know if I would like that feeling. I honestly haven't done that much research on that one, so I don't know. I don't think you could make a bad choice ---- you will be in Disney!! :goodvibes

Hi Anne! :goodvibes I wish my DH shared your priorities concerning the DIS. :rotfl:

Thanks for the info on PO! It's so hard to choose! Did you use buses to get to the parks? If so what were the wait times and crowds like?

CSR as a convention resort is actually being touted as a plus by some people. They are saying that because people are staying at the resort for their convention that the buses are less crowded, at least during the day.go

I also just got a PM from someone telling me that CSR has a dance club, spa, hair salon, tanning beds, fitness center and sauna. Not sure if we need any of those amenities but it's good info to have. (And complicates the issue even more).
