tubtruck - the extra seats you are talking about used to be on the "AML" flights; AML used to be another company that operated under the ba name. Their configuration used to be 3-4-3 on 777 aircraft. AML no longer operate.
ALL ba flights on 777 are now a 3-3-3 seating plan in economy.
Emirates, Air France/KLM & Air NewZealand all operate 3-4-3 seating on their 777's. Much more cramped than ba.
