Monday 4th November
Today we were going to Animal Kingdom. Neither of the kids were particularly keen; its fair to say that AK is our least favourite park. But we hadnt been in the last couple of trips and I was missing Expedition Everest so I decided we had to fit it in. Out at the bus stop, the first bus to pull up was

Yes, we had quite a bit of luck with buses on this trip. We were never waiting more than 5 minutes for a bus to where we wanted to go. Having said that, we only used the bus for AK and MK so maybe thats not the best recommendation.
We hopped aboard, ready to start our day. As you can tell from the picture below, Gary had not yet had a cup of tea there was a nifty drinks machine in the room but none of us could figure out how to work it.

At the park, we picked up our Annual Passes and were issued with the plastic RFID tickets. Daniel was very excited to use the new scanners to enter the park.

It was pretty quiet and, of course, our first stop had to be Asia and Expedition Everest.

The Yeti Palace hotel is still not finished. Nice to know that builders in Orlando are just as reliable as they are here

It was quite overcast this morning which, of course, prompted lots of comments about how it was perfect Animal Kingdom weather those of you whove read (and taken any notice of) my previous trippies will know that we have had some pretty poor weather on previous visits to Animal Kingdom. We had a good view of our hotel from the top of the tracks, and we could see that the sun was starting to peek out from behind the clouds.

OK, so heres a question for the reading public. Why, when youve had a really big meal the night before, are you always starving the next day? We were all ravenous this morning. Gary needed his tea fix as well, so our next stop had to be breakfast. We decided to head over to Kusafiri Bakery, since it was the nearest place I could think of. We ordered a cherry turnover, giant cinnamon roll and ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich-type thing. Plus a tea and a diet coke breakfast wouldnt be complete without a diet coke.

The cinnamon roll was huge it was like 5 little cinnamon rolls all joined together. Sian and Daniel ate the majority of it. I had a taste though and it was quite nice.

The breakfast sandwich was just OK the flatbread was a little dry and stale. Daniel and I split this since Sian doesnt like eggs.

Gary enjoyed the cherry turnover to himself, since nobody else likes cherries. My husband is not stupid, he knows how to order so that he doesnt have to share. I think Ive said this before but Gary is a bit like Joey from Friends he doesnt share food!

We had a brief discussion over breakfast as to what to do next and decided we would walk the animal trails and then take the Wildlife Express Train over to Rafikis Planet Watch, since this was something we hadnt done before despite several previous visits here.
We had some fun on the trail and the animals were pretty active.

I could have watched the meerkats all day.

Daniel had worn his meerkat shirt today and was insistent I try to get a picture of him with a meerkat it didnt quite work but, trust me, there are several behind him in this shot.

The gorillas, when we finally saw them, were great. One was just posed at the edge of a rock and another kept poking her. This old guy was sitting on his own a way up the hill. I love the fact that they always look so grumpy.

We watched the gorillas for a while and then moved on we had a train to catch.

This little fella was an Opossum, who had been injured and lost an eye. It was great that you could get right up close and look at him.

Of course, we had to meet Rafiki himself.

I loved it here and couldnt understand why we hadnt done this before. There was so much to see. Maybe this is one of the reasons why we have never really enjoyed Animal Kingdom we were clearly missing some of the best bits of it.
