friend's 5 yr old son on a vent with pneumonia pg 20

Thank you again for all the prayers. As someone posted, this is a tough thread to read but am grateful for those that take the time to read it and pray for Kyree and his family.

Kyree had a rough night. I don't have a lot of information this morning on his status except that they are going to put him on the heart lung machine. It is a scary thought, but the things I saw online about ECMO and swine flu patients seems to imply that it can give his body esp his lungs, the break it needs to begin healing. I will post more as soon as I have more information.

Please pray that the move to the heart lung machine causes healing and causes no harm. Please pray that Kyree's lungs heal. Please pray that his body continues to be strong and handle all the things happening to it. Please pray for strength and peace for his mom. I know she is stressed by this procedure in particular and any new thing they try in general.

Thank you so much.

thanks for the update jewel..we are all holding our breath here waiting to exhale..

They finished the surgery for the procedure to hook up the ECMO. They told his mom it will take 1.5 hours to get everything stabalized. I will update as soon as I have more information.

OH my gosh, poor kiddo!! :( My thoughts are definitely with Kyree and his family, what a tough time this must be!

I have been following this thread, posted previously, and I keep checking back in to see how things are going. I'm sorry to hear he hasn't responded to the different vents and the nitric oxide. ECMO is pretty dramatic, they literally take the patient's blood out of their body from one spot, remove the CO2 and add O2 (doing the job for his lungs since they are so sick) and return it in another. If he is requiring this, he is extremely critically ill. I truly hope that this works for him. I'm sure the doctors are being very upfront with his mom at this time, and I know how important it is to keep positive, but frankly this is not a good sign. I worked last night and I am going to bed now, and I will be saying a prayer for him and for his family.

COntinued prayers for Kyree and his family. I'm getting ready for noon Mass and will offer the Mass for his speedy return to good health. Please continue to keep us updated.

Thank you Dizz - we appreciate it.

jfoofj - you are right. Things are pretty dire right now. ECMO is very serious and they have communicated the seriousness of it to Kyree's mom. Hope endures though.

I have been following along with this thread since the beginning and praying daily for Kyree. I am so sorry things are not improving and I pray that this new heart/lung machine is able to give Kyree's body the rest it needs in order to heal. I am just about to head out to church and I will add little Kyree to the prayer requests... along with his mother, I can't imagine what she is going through.

I have been following this thread constantly but have not posted. I had so hoped the ECMO would not be necessary. I will continue to hold Kyree, his mom, and all his friends and family in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Oh wow, I'm so sorry.

As others have said there is still hope, but things are very grave. :sad1:

I will keep praying for Kyree to be a survivor and for strength for his parents and brother. :grouphug:

Finally I can give a good update for Sunday morning. After a very rocky start of the day Kyree is stable. He came through the surgery well and is adjusting to the ECMO. All of his levels are good right now. The ECMO is serious but if he continues to respond to it well it will allow his lungs the opportunity to fight off the infection and for the holes to heal.

Thank you for all the prayers. Please continue praying for strength for Kyree and his family. Please pray that the ECMO machine functions well and that Kyree does not have complications from it. Please pray that they are able to keep his blood at the perfect levels to prevent both bleeding and clotting.

Thank you for your care and concern for Kyree and his family. It is really appreciated.

Bless his heart! More prayers for Kyree and his family

While you are right that this means things are dire, ECMO has been the ONLY thing that has worked for some people and is saving some lives.

Amazing! Iam so glad to here he's stable. Keep praying!

Prayers continue for Kyree from Southcoast Massachusettes.
His little body has been working so hard. This porcedure will allow him to rest and heal.

Continued strength to his mom and those that are supporting her emotionally as well as supporting her home so she can be with Kyree.
