Fried Okra-Yay or Nay?

As I sit here eating one of my most favorite foods on earth, I am wondering....what is your opinion of fried okra: yay or nay?

P.S. I dated a guy when I was in Southern California for undergrad who asked me, and I quote, "what is an okra?"

I say yay--I mean, it is fried, which means it's probably gonna taste pretty good regardless of what it is--but it's not something I'm going to go out of my way to find.

True. Most things fried are delicious. But I even love those puppies steamed! MMMmmmm, mmmm, good!

I have never met a piece of okra I won't eat.....

I like it fried, boiled and in all sorts or recipes! Of course, I will eat pretty much anything.....

Fried ANYTHING is disgusting to me...I just don't do fried foods.

Vegetables are just fine on their own, without deep frying, thank you.

I grew up in Montana but often visited relatives in TX. They'd fry okra right out of their gardens with a little corn meal. Really good. I'll eat the Okra they serve in restaurants etc but it isn't as good as fresh. Never tried to do it on my own. A college friend loved pickled okra but I just couldn't go there.

I'll eat the Okra they serve in restaurants etc but it isn't as good as fresh. Never tried to do it on my own. A college friend loved pickled okra but I just couldn't go there.

OMG!!! That is the BEST stuff in the world!!! I have fridge full of Texas Pete hot pickled okra, oh, heaven!

I'm with you there. Veggie trays at my house always include pickled okra. YUM!

You do not have to necessarily fry okra. You can bread it in cornmeal and bake it, thank you.

The immature pods are used for soups, canning and stews or as a fried or boiled vegetable. The hibiscus like flowers and upright plant (3 to 6 feet or more in height) have ornamental value for backyard gardens.

I am sure you would LOVE it! And don't even get me started on my love of gumbo and all foods Cajun! That's what growing up on the Gulf of Mexico will do to you!
