Three years ago today people left work to return to their homes and families. some for the very last time.

It's like living in the shadow of a nightmare. Always there, always elusive, neverending.

PBS had a special last night called "New York" and it basically covered the story of the twin towers. Most of what I saw was from the morning, that beautiful morning of September 11th before our world changed forever, to the present and how New Yorkers have gone on.

All the horror and pain came rushing back. What struck me was I can just barely remember how I felt that morning on the way to work, before the planes hit. That carefree feeling, that I can't describe, but you know what I mean, that we will never feel again.

I try regularly to find the good in this. I remember that there was so much good in the weeks and months after as we came together as a country and as a people supporting each other.

I wish we could get that feeling and support back without a massive tragedy to bring it on.

Nicely said, Bernie. As someone who works in NYC and sees the void in the skyline everyday, memories are never far away.
