We'll be arriving late, late on a Friday night, and the plan is to stay at another hotel for Friday and Saturday, check in to OKW on Sunday and stay there until the following Sunday. We've stayed mostly at deluxes in the past, but I got a really good rate at Pop Century ($79) for those two nights. Am I going to be terribly disappointed with a value resort? We're just there for that one day (Saturday). We stayed at the Poly last time, and that was wonderful, but it's so much more expensive this time around. We generally don't do the parks on our first day, just chill by the pool and relax.

That's the place we use when we do DVC. We get up early and run over to OKW to check in. Then back to POP for breakfast and pack. Or pack and breakfast. It has a food court that is not bad. You are getting a Holiday Inn express type room.

Relax, Pop Century is a 'fun' resort. Take some time and wander around. Depending on your age, you'll have fun identifying everything for each of the decades depicted.

Be sure to walk across the bridge and look at the year dates. Interesting how the style of each year is right on.

You'll find the room extremely small, so you may not want to spend a lot of time in it. The pool is nice, and the food court is handy.

We've done PC also to avoid the weekend DVC points, and enjoy it. You'll see lots of kids there. It's a popular resort for young families.

If you want to go to any of the parks your day there, you might want to drive. The busses can get pretty crowded. Depending on time of day.

If you haven't been there before, really walk around the resort. The Disney Imagineers did a great job. It'll be fun.

Staying either at a Value resort or offsite the first night to save expensive weekend DVC points is the way to go if moving is no big deal for your group. In fact, it just makes the DVC stay all the more special by comparison, right??? I'd never END a trip at a Value or offsite if I could help it, but starting there is perfectly reasonable! We'll be at Doubletree Suites (using HiltonHonors points) for one night this weekend (!) before heading to our home resort of OKW!

I'll be at Pop Fri & Sat this wknd before heading to VWL early Sun morn. Im planning on only trying to sleep there. I'll be doing the parks commando Fri-Sun. It was a choice of $160 2nights Pop or $800 2nights WL - I could use that $ for table service restaurants.

Thanks for the input, we're going to be adventuresome and stay with it. One of the podcasts I listened to highly recommended Pop Century for the theming. We're not big fans of moving hotels, but those weekend points are killers.

We tried to stay at a value resort a few years ago for an early Dec trip. We arrived after midnight, tried to check in at All Stars, and after a long wait were told that they had overbooked. They ended up sending us to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for $49 a night. :teeth:

I always feel that my vacation doesn't really begin until I get to DVC. :goodvibes

How did you get the $79.00 rate? I haven't been able to find any good deals like that at any of the value resorts! I am looking to do the same thing that you are doing (staying at a value before moving to VWL on Sunday).

Have to say that POP is my resort of choice if I'm trying to save points. I love it there. And it does tend to make my BWV stays all the more magical when I get there. I did add one night at POP at the end of my stay in Dec (had to get a better flight out), and it was still good. Don't think I would want to add an extended stay at POP on the end of my stay though.

We're FL residents (military), and got the reduced rate for that. New Holiday is right though, the rate is available for Annual Pass holders as well. Go to www.mousesavers.com to get the latest discounts.

We are doing the same thing in July. We are staying Friday and Saturday night at the Pop Century. We are really excited about it. I don't care where I stay as long as its on Disney property. We got the $79.00 per night rate as well but used our AAA discount. Can't beat it. We will go on to the WL after our Stay at POP.

What a great idea!! Will Disney move our luggage for us from Pop to BWV?

Is there a better room/theme/area to request (50, 70, 80??)

TIA

Yes Disney will move the luggage.
At Pop 60s is the preferred section (extra cost). 50s and 70s are next closest w/80s and 90s being farthest away from main bldg.

Staying in May friday and saturday before moving to VWL on the 7th. Ap rate of $86 for prefared view. First time staying here for us.
