Last year we paid about $270 per person ($1083 total) for 1 stop flights with short layovers in Georgia on Delta. We travelled on the 21st of August and were scheduled to return on the 28th. I had watched prices for about 1 or 2 weeks and I booked not even 5 weeks in advance of the flight.

This year, we are planning to fly out on the 17th of August, returning on the 26th. For non-stop flights, I saw fares for $303. That was in the beginning of the week. Today, the fare is $330! I know I would be comparing apples to oranges in terms of 1 stop flight vs non-stop flights in two different years. And I'm not a frequent flyer, this will only be my second time. But it seems like the outbound fare may be decent. All the other airlines are at least $320 and over per person.

My question is should I go ahead and book the outbound and wait and see about the return fare? :confused3I would hate for them to go up anymore.
We need to be on non-stop flights because my DD hates transferring planes and is afraid of flying. We got stuck in Florida during the hurricane and were re-booked on a non-stop flight. She preferred getting one flight over and done with. It was a lot smoother I would say.
Thanks for any help.:goodvibes

I would wait till a tuesday or wensday to look for a better deal and try using a diffrent airline going and coming sometimes it save to book one way vs round trip. I have always found my best deals on these days

Not sure where you are in NY but have you tried Southwest out of Long Island or even Hartford, CT. They don't have baggage fees and the prices are cheaper right now for their non-stops then Delta. We used to fly Delta all the time out of Hartford and they did away with all non-stops and their fares for 1 stop flights is over $500. We are trying SW for the first time and the fares were much better. Check out SW and even JetBlue.

I am going August 18-26 and have been checking everyday and the prices have been so crazy between $400-$500. Last week I was able to get United for $295.00 out of Newark. I have never flown United and have never flown from Newark I hope they are both a good experience. Michelle

We're in NYC. Checked out South West out of Hartford and it comes out to a bit more than Delta. :sad2: Jet Blue always is almost $2,000 for the four of us. It seems like the fares are high in general, but Delta is way on top so far. Our dates are kind of set in stone due to the children's summer activities and school starting in September. I won't be looking around much longer, because there is no way I'm buying if it increases to $350 or so.

$295 is only for your outbound flight right? No return flight ticket yet?

Do you drive to the airport and if you do were do you leave your car? Michelle

Have you tried using www.kayak.com

It looks like non-stop are around 265 per ticket for your dates.

In Feb, I was able to get non stop round trip tix for 200.00, but had to use 2 different airlines...jfk- delta going down and jetblue going back to JFK. I never would have thought of that....kayak puts the cheapest ways together!
Just watch airports...some of their combos went in and out of different airports, which wouldn't work for us because we drive to the airport!

I know this wasn't directed at me, but if we drive to EWR we park at Vista. Always able to get a coupon so not paying sticker price. Completely gated, 24 hour patrol. Shuttle is always quick to/from terminal. Helpful staff. Enter through the HoJo's entry.
