I have a bunch of FF miles on USAIR and what I'd like to know is if I redeem miles to book a flight and then change my mind can I cancel the flight and get my miles back?

An Award Redeposit may be requested for an unused, unexpired award ticket or gift certificate. The ticket/certificate must be returned with any associated hotel and car rental discount certificates to the Dividend Miles Service Center. The miles will be deposited into the original account debited. A service fee will apply. Note: Partially used tickets may not be redeposited.

Thanks Dan. I looked on their site but missed that part.

That makes me feel better than when you buy a regular non-refundable ticket. I ended up eating two of these in the last two years because the people I bought the tickets for (my BIL and nephew) didn't go on the trip to WDW. The airline wouldn't budge on giving me a refund and they won't let anyone else use the ticket. Kinda stinks. No, actually, it DOES stink!!

I also noticed that a service fee will apply. I wonder how much a "hit" I'll take if I change my mind. They weren't specific.

Anyway, thanks again.

(btw, I sent them an email asking that. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to reply)

The last time I had to do this, it was with US Air, in Oct 2001. It was after 9/11 and we had gotten a voucher for MIL to come in and stay with the kids while DH and I were both on travel. DH's trip was cancelled. When I cancelled her voucher, they charged us $75 to return the miles to the account.

OUCH!!!

Well, I'd rather pay the $75 and keep the miles than buy a non-refundable ticket and lose the money AND the ticket.
