French Market will be converted into Tiana's Palace restaurant in 2023

I'm not a huge fan of the beignets at Market House. To me, the JK beignets are way better, but you know how it is! There are plenty of people who feel the opposite.

I've made my own beignets at home with the Cafe du Monde mix, which is what they use at Jazz Kitchen. They sell it there but it's a lot cheaper if you buy it at World Market, which conveniently has a store in my town. Honestly, my homemade ones are a lot like the ones at Market House, which is to say they're good but not nearly the quality of JK fresh, even though I'm supposedly using the same mix.

Several years back World of Disney and some of the other shops used to sell little boxes of gingerbread cookie mix with an attached small Mickey head cookie cutter so you could make the Mickey gingerbread at home. I used that little cookie cutter for beignets when I wanted them Mickey shaped--they were just the right size. I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to find a cookie cutter like that if you really wanted to make some Mickey beignets at home.
I do that too! Love my Mickey beignets and they always cheer me up when I can’t be at DL!

The longest line I stood in when there in December was for Mickey beignets! It was crazy!

For those who decide to try making beignets, please report back, whether from the mix or homemade! There are lots of YouTube videos.

I keep meaning to try making them from scratch, but I've not done it after all these years. You do have to use yeast and let the dough rise for a couple of hours.

Looking forward to the new Tiana's Palace and trying out the beignets, though I imagine they'll probably be the same as they are now.

We made them from the previously mentioned mix (which we bought in-person at the original Cafe) and they were fantastic. This was 10-ish years ago though.

I make them from the mix all the time. They are really easy to make. Just time consuming having to fry in batches. I just roll out the dough and use a pizza cutter to make rough squares.

I've made them from the mix for several years, but they're never as good as the ones at JK. I was wondering if you made them from scratch they'd be better.

Of course, it's entirely possible my technique is at fault.

They use the mix at JK. They don't scratch make them.

What makes things better in restaurants is the oil they use to fry things. You can't replicate that at home.

Is there a specific type of oil that works best? I saw one video that claimed cottonseed oil was the only way to go for the best beignets. But the video was sponsored by a cottonseed oil company, so....

I always just use canola. That's what I use to fry everything.

I'd have to imagine Crisco would probably make the best tasting beignets, but I refuse to use hydrogenated oils at home. Most restaurants use a partially hydrogenated oil in their fryers. It pours out a thick, yellowish/whitish looking fluid and becomes clear when it's heated up.

i'm not a massive fan of this change.
I think the oversaturation of Princess and the Frog is getting a little too much.

Yes I'm still sore about them taking away my fav character (Brer Rabbit) but it's not just that. I'm tired of all this IP taking over. Just leave some things alone already!
Not everything needs to be themed to a movie.

And what's the point of giving Tiana a restaurant if she isn't even having a Character meal there?
Would have been better if they wanted to do this at Cafe Orleans and had at least a Character Dinner or something.

About the same point as making bathrooms in the MK Rapunzel themed.

Ever since the debut of The Princess And The Frog in 2009 Disneyland had already planned to make New Orleans Square themed to the movie especially since The Princess And The Frog is set in New Orleans and when The Princess And The Frog was released we noticed things that were signs that New Orleans Square was gonna be themed to The Princess And The Frog starting with the Tiana's Showboat Jamboree show that set on the Mark Twain riverboat that had all the characters performing. So after years of research and planning it's finally coming true with the new Tiana ride coming in 2024 and now the actual Tiana's Palace restaurant is coming to Disneyland soon. What I imagine the Tiana's Palace restaurant to have will be real authentic New Orleans cuisine and just like in the movie the stage will have music and performers and will have interactive dancing contests throughout each meal. But I think they will add a special area in the patio for meet and greets with The Princess And The Frog characters and Tiana herself will greet guests at the entrance for autographs and photos much like Ariel used to do at Ariel's Grotto. Another thing that could be responsible for this restaurant to be happening is the debut and announcement of the new Disney+ series Tiana coming later this year. So I think it means that Tiana will become the big star of the Disney Princess line for 2023 and Tiana will be promoted better than ever. As a Princess Tiana fan myself I cannot wait to see what changes Tiana's Palace will bring to New Orleans Square

Yeah, a little of it is fine, but they are saturating an entire existing land with one character, It's too much.
I don't mind when they do this to NEW lands being created, like what they are doing in Tokyo Disneyland is AMAZING!
it's like over in DCA, why change the San Fransisco area to a Baymax theme? Just leave it alone already!
We don't need all the existing attractions and areas rethemed to IP, at least the Tree House is going back to it's former glory.

I couldn't agree with you more, wendlle! They are taking away what is classic and unique to Disneyland with all these changes. Just slapping IP on evveerryyythiinngg!

I feel that someone has to point out that Splash Mountain, in the current theming, is based on Disney IP, Song of the South. :D

Yes, it is. But, it was created to be Splash Mountain... that was its original. I have no problem with rides based on a movie or a character. But not when it is becoming every. Single. Thing. French Market is not IP, Mint Julep Bar is not, The Wharf is not. It's just my opinion and I know others absolutely disagree. I personally feel they are messing with too much of the original, classics that are unique to what has made Disneyland, Disneyland.

I agree about the Wharf retheme. It's an odd choice for sure and although I liked it a lot, Big Hero 6 is NOT a popular enough IP to justify this level of inclusion in the parks. The only thing I can think of is that this is an attempt to draw in the local Asian demographic more, because it is more popular in Japan and Asian countries in general.

I agree. I think one Tiana thing is ok, even 2, but 3 feels excessive. I love Splash as it is and French Market has always been one of my favorites. I'd feel like this about whichever character or land they were changing things to, it's not about Tiana. Not everything has to be a movie tie-in. I keep wondering if someday they'll get the idea to theme Matterhorn around Frozen or something. Some things should just stay as they are.

I think they should add a princess land (Like it's that easy!) and they could have rides for Tangled, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan etc.
