I read that as part of staying at that the DLR hotels, you will receive a photo memory, ESPN zone card, collectible pin, lanyard, and luggage tag. Is this something that they give you when you check in?

Negative on the freebies for just checking into a resort hotel. Most of those freebies are tied to booking a vacation package or other promo deal but are not included with just booking a room only reservation.

If you booked a vacation package then you will receive a pin, lanyard and luggage tag. Not sure about the photo memory or espn zone card, we've never received that. We did get a coupon book as well.

If you are just staying at the hotel, you don't get any of that.

What constitutes a vacation package? I would think four nights and park hoppers each day would be enough?

This appears to be what you're talking about...

We haven't booked a package in many years. I find I can save money booking everything myself.

When you book a Disneyland package (either at a DLR hotel or Good Neighbor Hotel) there are several items it includes, as you see listed. About 3 weeks prior to departure an envelop is sent to you with the items or vouchers for the trip.

Everything like except the luggage tags are vouchers found in the coupon book. About a month prior to your trip you will receive the luggage tags and the coupon book. Upon arrival you can redeem the coupons for the photopass photo, the pin set and lanyards, and anything else in the booklet. It will also have your Downtown Disney discount card in it (or at least I think it is a paper card and not just your room key) so make sure you don't toss it until you are done as you never know what might be in the coupon booklet.

never gotten that for Disneyland -
just WDW and I think the poster is inquiring about DL not WDW

Sorry meant Downtown Disney District. There use to be some discount card for that for build a bear and a few other places. We got it in 2015.
funny - I stayed at the DL resort in 2015 and 2016, booked thru DL website and don't get any of that

The pins and lanyards are Disneyland only and not done at WDW. We've gotten them for both trips we've taken to Disneyland. You do have to book as a package with tickets and room booked direct at the same time. Luggage tag and booklet come and then you exchange the vouchers. Geemo and tlovesdis both linked to the office information on it.

Did you not get the luggage tags either? The pins and lanyard were pretty cool for our 2015 stay as they were Disneyland 60th themed.

The web site alone booking hotel and adding tickets does not necessarily constitute a "vacation package" with freebies...that is just booking direct. See link above for Vacation Package specific offerings.

...but as others mentioned, if there are hotel promo deals going on you may be able to book your hotel and tickets cheaper separately than through a Vacation Package even though they are both through the Disney website. You just gotta do you research and compare.

We haven't even bought our tickets yet, so we probably won't get the freebies. Not a big deal, but hey freebies are always cool.

I haven't really shopped for tickets yet but did compare hotel prices and booking directly thru Disney with their "end of summer discount" was by far the least expensive. If we do decide to buy tickets thru Disney, did someone above mention that they mail you a packet? Would the tickets come in the packet?

Regarding the link above, I still don't see what additional purchases would need to be made in order to make it a "package." It appears to me that purchasing hotel and tickets directly thru Disney is indeed a "package". Even if I didn't do it at the same time, I would still expect the "freebies" to be included.

It needs to be booked and purchased together unless you would alter the initial reservation. Going online and simply buying tickets separate from your resort reservation isn't going to give you a package that included the extra items.

There is not an additional purchase...you just have to book it as a "Vacation Package"...not sure how that can be any more clear. They want to offer you perks and freebies to book the whole package through their vacation planning services. You are welcome to book direct or through third parties on your own, you just do not get the benefits of the Vacation Package perks. Just cuz you purchase the items individually on your own does not entitle you to the benefits that come with those that book through the vacation services department.

Just because you have a reservation and eat at Carthay Circle restaurant, you do not get a WOC fastpass even though you book it at the same place as the WOC Dining Pacakge...you have to book that package specifically.

So I just called the Disney agent to inquire on the difference. The ONLY difference is that if you book as a "vacation package" you would have to cancel within 30 days versus 5 as booking separately to receive a full refund. The hotel and ticket prices are exactly the same.

But you are still booking thru the same entity. See my response above.

We have used Costco Travel and our first trip we got many extras, this time we got luggage tags, a $60 giftcard, some various coupons, Character meal vouchers and i think that's it.
We got lanyards our first trip in the package
