Does anyone have a picture or good description of the free cups of water you can get at a counter service place? I was just wondering how big they are and if they come with a lid. TIA!

only got water once this way -- was a small cup (like the size of styrofoam coffee cup - maybe 8 or 10 oz?) No lid. And it tasted just as bad as the stuff straight out of the drinking fountain, so I never asked again...we now stick with bottled water.

I'm a filtered water snob, and I found the water to be decent. Then again, it was 95 when I was last there, so anything would have been refreshing. The cup sizes vary - I've had anything from their medium size cups they serve pop in to a small cup just for water. Only got the small cup once, but the medium pop cups were given to us with a lid.

I refuse to pay money for water, so I get this a lot. I've never gotten a lid but you can probably ask for one unless it's one of those places that will give you only a smaller cup than they'd give you for a soft drink if you order water.

We are going for a quick trip in March, so I don't anticipate needing as much water as you would during the hotter months. We also are not renting a car so we won't be getting a case at the grocery store and I hate to pay the price Disney charges for individual bottles.

Does anyone know if you can get a larger cup when buying a meal or is that a toss up too?

I carry a refillable bottle on a lanyard when I am walking around the parks. I stop and refill it at water fountains.

Cheap, and I never get thirsty.

I have always gotten the regular drink size cup. They give it for free with no problem.

I have to admire you all for drinking that water!! :rotfl2:I drink filtered water at home and bottled water in Florida. I could never drink from those fountains. I even hate cleaning my teeth with that yucky smell coming from the faucet!!:headache:

I am sure if you asked for a large cup they would be happy to give it to you. They probably just grab whatever is closest to fill up.

The few times we asked for free water we were given the cup they use for soda (10-12oz), lids and straws were available at the station with napkins, etc.
I brought the individual Crystal Light (Walmart brand) flavoring to add for taste.

The water they serve is filtered. No taste. The water from the fountains is not. The ice is filtered, and in the summer just a cup of ice is sufficient, it melts so fast, and is quite refreshing. BTW, I hate the taste of their water also, won't drink from the fountains, NASTY!!

Fl water doesn't bother me at all, but I'd say if it is important enough of an issue for you to post about it, bring your own. Their water has a high sulfer content that many folks can get a stomach ache from if not used to it. I grew up in Fl so for me it's just like drinking a cup of home!;)

I don't have an issue with the water. I was just wondering what size of cup you got. Sorry if that made it sound like I had issues with it.

DS and I stop in for free water several times a trip. We will also sometimes get complimentary water in addition to the soda with meals.

We also carry water bottles and use the water fountains frequently. We are okay with the FL water, although sometimes it takes a few days. I find the colder, the better helps. Last trip we took gatorade packets to mix in, but only used a few of those.

Once, we both drank from the water fountain at DTD Marketplace and believe it or not... it was very good, almost like water from home. Probably because it was very cold, but it was the best FL water!

Once ds ran into a qs (I can't remember where, right now) and they didn't have any water ready, but tons of coke so they offered ds a coke instead. DS stepped out of line to check with me to be sure I'd let him take it. For a second I thought they had stopped giving out water, but then I realized that they were trying to move the cokes and be nice to ds at the same time. DS thought that was great!!

I have a Brita sports bottle with the carbon filters.

It does make the fountain water taste better.

I can't say I noticed a difference in the cold water given in a cup. I stopped filtering that water after the second time.

We too carry the little packets of Crystal Light, Poweraide, and Kool Aid powders. We didn't use them as often as I thought we would. But I liked having the option to change the taste.

The cups we got in 2008 were varied in size and we didn't get lids. We transfered the water to our to bottles for easier carrying.

The size of the cup depends on the location. Some places will give you a full size cup and some will give you a child size cup. All locations will give you a lid and straw unless it's in AK.

Agree with you 100%, we use the bottled water to brush our teeth! We also drink bottled water at home, and bring at least a case of it with us when we go on vacation, especially to Florida because we are sensitive to sulfur. Its becoming more difficult with the airline weight restrictions but have found that a 35 bottle case in a pilot bag weighs 49.5 lbs and even having to pay $20 or $30 for the extra bag, it is cheaper than buying the bottled water at WDW that still has the sulfer in it.

Exactly. Florida tap water is blech.

I drank the tap water when I was there, and didn't die or get sick or anything.

Maybe it depends on the time of year? I didn't notice a bad taste or anything. And I'm from the northwest where we have pretty good tap water, so you'd think I'd notice if it smelled bad.

DH & I have refillable bottles that we use. We fill it at the soda fountain in the morning (since its filtered from machine) and then one of our bottles is a filtered water bottle which we refill during the day at the parks. We have found that the tap water from the fountains tastes terrible.

If we have to drink the water unfiltered, we use the Crystal Light packets to make it drinkable.
