I just got the annual report on my Disney stock and it says that stockholders who buy a real estate interest in SSR are now eligible to recieve a complimentary vacation.

Do any of you know how that works? How many points do we have to buy? What kind of Vacation? Any other info?

Probably just a variation on offers DVC has done in the past. Initial purchasers at AKV are receiving a set of "Developer's Points" to use in the next 7 months. When DVC has included extra points like that in the past, they have often referred to it as a "free vacation." In reality it's no different than what any other buyers have received in the past.

AKV points cannot be used until at least September when the resort opens. The Developer's Points give people something to use now. By comparison, when folks buy into an existing resort, they receive the current year's points immediately. Both approaches get you to the same end point, for the most part.

I am still hoping for an answer as to what it is that stockholders get in the way of a vacation. I think stockholders would be a little irritated if the answer was nothing at all except the same offers that non- stockholders get, as tjkraz suggests.

There haven't been any special perks/benefits at the parks for stockholders for some time. Most stockholders don't buy stock to get perks - they buy because they think the stock will appreciate or pay dividends or both.

I bought Disney stock for just that reason! But, wouldn't it be great if I did get a vacation out of the deal! lol

Why?

I think you could make that argument if it were marketed as an "exclusive benefit" for stockholders, or something like that. They're just trying to get people's attention.

I think you are right but I believe quite a few by this one for the stock certificate.

Unfortunately, the great shareholder exclusive perks ended way back in the early 1990s.

I have to agree with the OP, when I saw that offer in our annual report, I questioned my DH about what it could mean. We both came to the conclusion that it was the same as when they market the free vacation when purchasing DVC.

But, I would be curious if you find out otherwise ;)

If you are not satisfied with the answers here perhaps you should call Disney directly and ask them.

Be sure to report back here to let us know if the offer for stockholders is any different than what everyone else gets. If stockholders are being offered something better, I would be interested in that. My dividends are automatically reinvested, so it would be nice to know that I could get something from having stock.;)

Just got off the phone with DVC -- they're not sure what the program is yet either. Told me to try back later.

LOL, Cruella - You mean something besides the 28% appreciation since a year ago? ;) :teeth: Wish all my investments did that well! If they did, I wouldn't need no stinkin' free vacation. :teeth: :rotfl2:

Fresh off the press.........

Disney Stockholder deal:

1 year Free points (hence free vacation)

or $10 dollar/point discount on purchase.

F&F $15 Discount still the best deal -- sad its over tho...

Mule

Right now if you buy SSR there is already a $10/pp credit and you don't have to be a stockholder. So do you think that if you are a stockholder you can get either another $10/pp credit or a year of free points too? Wouldn't seem right if as a non-stockholder you can get $10/pp credit but as a stockholder you can only get that and not something special for being a stockholder.....

Must get on the phone with our guide.....:mickeyjum

Seems like the current deal being offered to all at SSR. You either get 2006 points now with 2007 coming soon, or you get 2007 pts with the $10 discount.

I thought that you got the $10 off and the 2006 points regardless... at least that is what my guide advised right after the F&F ended. So, the "free vacation" is really just the 2006 points. A decent deal, if you can't find a good contract on the secondary market.
